#Giants100 Lock - missed the safety on the INT vs lions but knew as soon as he threw it
This was the knock on Lock in Denver:

Did not appear like TE Tyree Jackson, the Giants’ emergency QB for this week, practiced today. Took a big hit yesterday and was talking to trainers today.
Drew Lock did say his left hip hurts when he throws but he and Daboll have talked about possibly being available in Houston.
Lock said unequivocally he will be ready for Week 1
On Sirius XM NFL channel the other day, Rich Gannon was saying his teams would shoot for a yearly sack number in the upper 20's when he played. He then said the Giants gave up 85 sacks, which he thought was just incredible. He also said DJ was pressured on 41% of his passes, which he also thinks is ridiculous.
There's no disputing the Jones was under a comical amount of pressure last year.

Love this quote. Sometimes you gotta just play ball.
The good and the bad on offense: Daniel Jones with a great deep TD throw to Jalin Hyatt (after Brian Burns stopped playing because he was in the backfield for an immediate sack) #Giants
I say this in the least sarcastic way possible. This is the story of Daniel Jones. If only they weren't allowed to sack him, he'd be an outstanding quarterback.
That doesn't make sense (even being sarcastic).. Burns part of the deal is good news for us that means he was getting pressure (not everyone we face will have a Burns like player out there) but no matter what Jones hit Hyatt which is awesome.
It makes perfect sense. Without the threat of pressure Jones is a very accurate quarterback, especially deep.
The question becomes whether 1) the Giants pass pro can provide that type of protection or 2) can Jones develop the ability to make those types of throws under pressure.
"After Brian Burns stopped playing because he was in the backfield for an immediate sack". Sounds like a missed block )or open run to the QB). He didn't say Jones hung onto the ball for a while letting Burns get the sack.
What QB completes a deep TD pass when an edge gets an "immediate sack".
Dan Duggan
@DDuggan21
Notes from today's practice:
• Daniel Jones appears to have shaken off the rust. He's no longer under-throwing deep balls like he did early in camp. Uncorked a beautiful deep ball to Jalin Hyatt for a long TD today. They also hooked up for a short TD pass on a slant when Nick McCloud seemed to expect help inside that didn't come.
Tyler Nubin intercepted a short pass from Jones to Lawrence Cager in the end zone. It was an overall ugly play, with Kayvon Thibodeaux having a clear sack but the whistle wasn't blown so Jones tried to force it to Cager.
The offense had a situational two-minute drive with a tie score at the end of practice. The offense started around their 30 yard line and drove to the other 41 on short passes to Wan'Dale Robinson (2), Darius Slayton and Theo Johnson. The drive stalled there and Graham Gano came out for a 59-yard field goal with three seconds remaining ... and then didn't kick it. Boring!
• Shades of last year's camp with musical chairs on the OL. Went from C Van Roten/RG Stinnie to C Schlottman/RG Van Roten to C Schlottmann/RG Stinnie every two plays. Van Roten was at C and Stinnie was at RG for the two-minute drill.
Van Roten had one snap over Jones' head. G Jake Kubas had a high snap on his first rep at C with the second-team offense.
• Thibodeaux had a strong practice. He had the "sack" on Nubin's interception. He was in the backfield on other plays as well, including a blown up Jones keeper deep in the red zone for a big loss.
• Isaiah Simmons was the primary slot corner with Dru Phillips (ankle) not practicing. David Long played slot in the dime package with Simmons moving to LB.
• Elijah Chatman, who had a sack against the backups, was the DL with Dexter Lawrence in the first-team dime package. Undrafted rookie could have a role as the second pass-rushing DT.
• The Giants are down to four healthy safeties with Gervarrius Owens (knee), Elijah Riley (concussion) and Jalen Mills (NFI) not practicing. That means starters Jason Pinnock and Dane Belton had to pull double duty and get some third-team reps. Don't want starters getting overtaxed because so many backups are sidelined.
• Injury roundup: WR Malik Nabers (ankle), LB Dyontae Johnson (ankle) and CB Dru Phillips (ankle) weren't spotted at practice.
QB Drew Lock (hip), WR Dennis Houston (hand), LB Carter Coughlin (lower body), CB Cor'Dale Flott (quad) and the three safeties mentioned above worked on the side with trainers.
OL John Michael Schmitz (shoulder) and OL Evan Neal (ankle) only participated in individual drills again as they ramp up from extended absences. Not expecting either to play in Saturday's preseason game at Houston.
TE Lawrence Cager, TE Tyree Jackson, OL Jon Runyan and OL Jake Kubas left practice with apparent injuries. No updates yet.
with all the safety/slot injuries Micah Hyde may be a name to remember
he'd be a nice depth add to compete in the Jalen Mills veteran role.
If you want to keep Owens, bringing in another safety makes little sense.
im not sold that owens is a must keep but there are options aside from him.
i dont think mills roster spot needs to be certain. it sounds like on the DL phillips spot may not be certain and they each got about the same guarantees (~$500k) so considering Mills hasnt even been healthy, i dont know why he'd be guaranteed anything.
at LB matthew adams got twice as much guaranteed as each of them and his spot shouldn't be guaranteed either if he were to get outplayed by Johnson/Muasau/whoever.
at any position group they need to just keep the best guys. and if any position group looks thin because too many are hurt they need to add more options.
if the Giants hand out roster spots based on guaranteed money rather than performance, they deserve to lose.
totally agree. im sure there were reasons they signed mills, but he shouldnt be on scholarship. hard enough to win in the nfl fully healthy, cant just carry guys who arent healthy hoping they will perform.
hyatt had somewhere between 5-10 walk in long tds on the field last year if QBs could have better delivered the ball to him. That may be a low estimate too.
but you can already see the impact of having a WR1 vs not in the practice Nabers missed.

We seem to be counting chickens....
I've seen enough football to recognize talent. Incidentally, Sy raved about Wan'Dale all last year if you read his reports.
Robinson had 60 receptions and 500+ yards despite missing the first two games of the season. I'd say that's pretty decent for a guy coming off an ACL tear. Now factor in the QBs he had playing for him.
Hyatt and Wan'Dale but they are counterparts right now and Nabers is the alpha. John Schmeelk made a good point on his visit with Big Blue Banter - Daniel Jones had a good repertoire with Golden Tate and in 2019, he hit those slot fades to him blanketed because he trusted him in those contested catch scenarios. I feel it's a safe guarantee he will feel the same throwing up balls to Nabers even if he's covered and I'm sure Nabers wants the same thing. Put it in his radius and watch him go get it.
I trust Daboll knows how to use a talent like Malik and will get him ample targets each game as he deserves. Without him in there, it will be a drastic drop off, however, to Slayton and that isn't a knock on Darius. It is a situation where Malik Nabers is that damn good. He noted how Detroit were already playing a Cover 2 with safety help to play Nabers.

I agree that they appear to have a ton of talent. Unfortunately, it's also a fact that they haven't accomplished much, for various reasons.
I'm hoping the talent shows this year, but I do think we have a right to be skeptical, or at least wait until it happens.
If the o-line and QB are so bad that talented receivers can't get the ball, it's time to replace either coaches or talent evaluators.

Jon Runyan Jr. just did something to his right foot or leg. Came off and Jake Kubas is now the first team left guard #Giants
Trainers are having Runyan lift his arms and examining something in his torso. Whatever it is, it’s something. He’s standing on the sideline
So he hurt his foot or leg so they checked his torso but regardless it is something. wow..
Maybe he hurt his confidence and that affects his whole body
Maybe Leonard has no idea what he hurt.

but what exactly have they accomplished to prove that they're more than just guys?
We seem to be counting chickens....
I've seen enough football to recognize talent. Incidentally, Sy raved about Wan'Dale all last year if you read his reports.
Do they throw the ball to themselves? Go back to bed my friend.

Robinson had 60 receptions and 500+ yards despite missing the first two games of the season. I'd say that's pretty decent for a guy coming off an ACL tear. Now factor in the QBs he had playing for him.
