What I'm expecting, 7 wins. Almost like being in purgatory. We've improved, but we still need to upgrade the most important position in all of sports. And we'll need to expend draft capital to get there. C'est la vie.
Are you joking? The Redskins have gone 33 years without making it to the NFC championship game. How about the Jets? Cleveland? How 'bout them cowboys....
RE: Never seen a franchise stuck in the mud like this
I think the Giants are better than last season. Burns, Nabers, and the OL improvements are meaningful imo. I would be surprised if we're a bottom three team. I think the NFC still sucks, so I can easily see us competing for a wild card spot if things go well.
RE: RE: Never seen a franchise stuck in the mud like this
Arguing about whether the Giants are somewhat less stuck in the mud the Browns or Jets is like when people argue in the minutiae that Jones is better than Minshew/Fields/<insert journeman QB>.

Try reading the post. Jints said he's never seen this before. When this started in 2016 or so, we were all praying that we didn't become the new Cleveland Browns.
Well guess what? We have become the new Cleveland Browns. And thanks, the Jets are a better example than Washington - or at least similar.
So following before attacking.

Had a feeling our last decade or so is among the worst all time, so I hopped on chatgpt and fired off a few questions. Looking at 10 year spans, the NY Giants of 2013-2023 compiled a record of 65-114-1 (.364) is the 33rd worse 10 year record ever achieved by an NFL team. In terms of futility that puts our last decade in the top 2% of worst 10 year records ever achieved.
Make no mistake, if you look at the last decade we are one of the most pitiful franchises in American sports.

Wasted 4 years with Gettleman easy to see. Drafts seem better but we are in QB hell.

I remember being in this site in 2018 and asking how much longer we had to wait before it was ok to get pissed and be critical. 6 years later here we are still.
To posters like that dude, you can NEVER speak ill of the Giants. It's just not allowed. It is like if Papa or Banks had a handle here...'The problem isn't with the organization, but with you ungrateful & idiotic fans who have the audacity to criticize the franchise for being lost in the woods since XLVI. Just STFU & enjoy your free Medium Pepsi!'
I don't mind people being optimistic. That's great. That's your right. But the 'You shall not speak ill of the Giants' posters piss me off. And with a mentality like that, his handle won't be changing to 5XChamps anytime soon.
Year 3 of this regime & we're not even projected to get 7 wins. & if that bears out, can people stop gushing over Schoen? His fingertips are all over this roster. I'd even argue that the two best players on this team are AT & Dex, both of whom were drafted by his idiotic predecessor.

Agree, especially with Mara. He needs to own this mess, his fingerprints are all over it.
It's hard to see the direction this regime is steering towards...one thing I know for certain after Hard Knocks is that Schoen is not some uber-intelligent GM playing 4 dimensional chess. He comes across about as generic as possible, can't wait to see him giving his takes on ESPN one day in the future.
The national media is assuming the QB play even worse than last year:
DJ ineffective and missing a lot of games, Lock worse than Taylor as primary backup and DeVito still not ready to play. It's a pretty good bet. Personally, I'm very pessimistic about Jones playing well and staying healthy. I'm even more pessimistic about Drew Lock. I'm neutral on DeVito, who right now is a better story than QB.
They'are also assuming that the loss of Barkley is a big deal. I think it won't be but there will be no convincing people of that. Barkley will probably do very well in Philadelphia. Even if the Giants get a productive RB-by-committee, people will point to Saquon and say "See, you're IDIOTS!" And if Saquon gets hurt, nobody will say "See, you were RIGHT."
The line play should be better than last year, which will help the running and passing games.
I think the Giants should be objectively better, but that doesn't always translate to many more wins. If we have another season of the Giants moving the ball down the field but ending drives with turnovers or field goal attempts, 6-7 wins is about right. That's part of why Saturday was so dispiriting.
What was also dispiriting about the Texans game is that Jones' best moments came against backups. He looked awful vs. the starters. But I shouldn't be too judgmental I'm told as it was his first game since his ACL injury, his pregame meal was undercooked, & whatever other excuse the Papas/Banks of the world will throw out. Just remember...Daniel is never at fault.
If this roster had a proven top 15-ish QB, we are likely getting a ton more love from the media. Instead, many see us as a bottom 5 team…again. And if that comes to fruition, I don’t see how you can bring back this coach and GM. 2025 should usher in a new GM, HC, and QB.

A huge problem is that we have 1 good cornerback, and this is, I've been told, a passing league.

I have said plenty of negative things about the Giants. BUT for the first time in a long while I trust the coach and I trust the GM.
So bottom line.... bite me loser. There's your negative statement homie.

Why? I'm convinced that Reese wanted to draft a franchise QB long before Eli retired, but ownership was opposed. Reese was gone before it became evident to all that Eli was not elite (and in my opinion, never was). Gettleman had a chance to draft Josh Allen and took "touched by the hand of God" instead. He was then forced to draft a QB and selected Jones. I have my doubts that Shurmur was being honest when he said Jones "checked all the boxes". I don't think he was that dumb. Jones was Gettleman's decision. I trust Schoen and Daboll to find the Giants franchise QB next year, most likely in the draft, less likely in a trade or by signing a free agent.

to get mad at predictions. Save it for the season.
Like I said, rarely do the "experts" see player (team) development coming. Prove me wrong. I said rarely not always. If I had a dollar for the number of times the experts don't see that good team coming from the ashes of bad the year prior i'd have....more money.

if you don't think that's a real thing in any sport you're fooling yourself. George Young literally said those exact words. You prepare. You exhibit as much foresight and planning and proactive strategy as possible and then you pray. His words. Sometimes that collection of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year players come out and establish their place in the NFL for years to come and the team follows suit. Sometimes only a few of them do and the team hits the middle. Sometimes they all shit the bed and the team struggles.
This team is better prepared for a sustained run of decent play but things still need to develop. Shit goes wrong sometimes. We're due for shit go right. If Jones is the biggest problem they will find a new QB next off-season.
No division turtles since 2011 is insane

I'm almost expecting it to be Dallas. Just one injury to the OL, Dak will likely get constant pressure, and they might not score many points.

If they get 7 wins with this roster, and their schedule, it would be a successful season.
Don't remember, but if an overachieving season ends with 9 wins and a WC berth, the standards are set too low.
