Oh come on. No one even knew who Kurt Warner was when they made that prediction. It was a historically unprecedented development.
JEsus do you guys just live to argue? That's EXCACTLY MY POINT! We have been fooled time and time again. No one saw Warner coming. ON a lesser scale, no one saw the 1997 Giants coming. No one even saw the Coughlin led and highly dangerous 05 Giants coming. And 1984 NYG coming. No one saw Tom Brady coming. No one saw the good run of play from the Titans under Mike Vraebel. Wasn't amazing but they were one of the better teams for 4-5-6 years. And they did it with a QB that everyone loved to hate.
Also, I never said this team was the 2nd coming of the 99 Rams but go ahead and start yet another DJ pissing contest.
-are these annual NFL prognostications generally more right than wrong? Out of the 12 or so playoff teams do you think they get most right more often than not?
Spoiler alert--they are usually wrong. Laughably so.
NYG went 9-8 last season and the Panthers went 10-6-1. Who knew.
the athletic missed on NYG in 2023 as well. While they correctly hinted at some regressions they did not see the disaster of September 23 coming.
I think it's fair to call out people that live on making predictions. You sell stocks or your brand on predictive takes or outlooks, you should own it. People rarely do that these days but the athletic at least has some credibility.

They might be wrong this time, too. But that's not a guarantee that they'll be wrong on the low side, either.

Absolutely. You don't see me betting any over under NYG totals. My ass might be dumb but I aint no dumb ass. There's a ton of uncertainty here. Only a fool would argue that. That said, these surprise teams, both good and bad, literally come along every single season. Sometimes and probably more than likely it's more than one team.
I would argue on that hill all day long that it's next to impossible to see those teams coming. We are usually fooled.
RE: RE: RE: Never seen a franchise stuck in the mud like this
Are you joking? The Redskins have gone 33 years without making it to the NFC championship game. How about the Jets? Cleveland? How 'bout them cowboys....
What NFC team has fewer wins than the Giants over the past decade?
I love how the words "in the last decade" were added AFTER my comments. Yes the last decade has been terrible. Way to change the narrative AFTER you look like an idiot.

You seem to have a tough time figuring out these chat rooms.
I don't know why some people struggle so much with this concept
but the league missed on the Giants because they assumed DJ would play like he has the majority of his career, below average.
BD was able to scheme around him to put together just a great start to the season and then he pretty much went right back to who he was a mostly underwhelming QB that can occasionally lay the smack down on a bad D.
The models are correct to forecast that Jones, especially coming off injury, especially because he's often injured and his backup has gotten worse.
The team didn't improve as much as some people seem to think. (Which surprise suprise many believe like a broken record here)
We got Nabers but we lost Barkley and it is a lot easier for Barkley to get touches than Nabers. Even if Nabers is better his rookie year talent wise no guarentees our slow processing, dink and dunk QB is going to make that count.
Burns plays at a more valuable position but I think some around here underrate X, he graded out very well last year. And our secondary overall could be a problem which is pretty much the best way to create a loser in the NFL. With a bad pass offense and pass defense.
I can't believe people could watch our $40M QB last weekend and think we are being underrated. We've been one of the worst teams for a decade and we are clinging to a QB who tops out at average and that was only in a particular scheme where the effectiveness seems to expire. A scheme that also was only effective off playfakes/bootlegs with a RB playing like one of the best in the leauge.
We are going to need some luck to get above 6.7 wins. People that wish to live in reality can see that

Good post. I am a bit more optimistic about the safety situation, but no question the corners appear to be more of a question mark than I had hoped.
First off, I am curious what 6.7 wins mean. Do we win 6 and lead after three quarters of a 7th?
More to the point, while I would never recommend anyone bet on anything as random as sports, if you are a smart Giants fan you bet the over. This is a .500 football team and actually has been for awhile. And in that sense basing anything off of the first half of last season is nonsense. The Giants were awful but the main reason was the offensive line was historically bad and that line is gone. In fact once they got the OL sorted out last year the Giants went 5-6 down the stretch with Tyrod Taylor, the mother of all journeymen, and frigging Danny DeVito at QB.
And yes Jones wasn't very good last year, but no QB in the league was going to look very good playing behind that woeful line. In fact, in his last 40 or so starts the Giants are right around .500. You can look it up. In his last 41 starts, or at least the games in which Jones took the majority of snaps, the Giants were 19-21-1 playing with a supporting cast that was not as good as what he'll have this year.
Now I wouldn't bet because his health is key. Lose Jones and have to go with Lock/DeVito for any extended period and 4-5 wins would be very much in play.

To posters like that dude, you can NEVER speak ill of the Giants. It's just not allowed. It is like if Papa or Banks had a handle here...'The problem isn't with the organization, but with you ungrateful & idiotic fans who have the audacity to criticize the franchise for being lost in the woods since XLVI. Just STFU & enjoy your free Medium Pepsi!'
I don't mind people being optimistic. That's great. That's your right. But the 'You shall not speak ill of the Giants' posters piss me off. And with a mentality like that, his handle won't be changing to 5XChamps anytime soon.
I don’t mind his posts. I would change his handle to 8X Champs. Don’t forget it. Yes the past but we have won 8.

OK. Doesn't change the fact that rarely do people see greatness coming when the team is building from the ground floor.
