Seems to be highly overrated on this board. The Jets have a solid secondary with two good corners. Hyatt is a work in progress at this point. It may click in for him, but he’s not there yet.

Did Jones even target him. How can we assess the WR if the QB can't get his head out of his ass?

Oh wait... we can't assess the WRs if the QB sucks, but if the o-line and receivers suck, we CAN assess DJ?

Yep, just like "it's hard to evaluate" DJ with a shit o-line and receivers last year...
It is easy for talented young defense backs to look good playing

Man-to-man in Wink’s defense. Asking them to play the next season in Bowen’s zone is much more difficult. Unfortunately, it is going to take at least 4 games to figure it out, in my opinion. Everyone is hoping for a fast Giants start because the middle of the schedule is tough, but defense is going to take some time to jell. Remember Spags defense in 2007.

He got paid the $$$$$$ while another qb who most of the players in the league knew was much better, and is much more popular with those players, did not. Ever since then players have been dumping on Jones at every opportunity.

Barkley was offered a handsome contract and turned it down. This is old news. And players, many of them, are also dumb (see NFL top 100).

Archer : 8/21/2024 4:57 pm : link
I have a friend who is an avid Jets fan and was at the practice. He also played defensive line at Miami so I trust his opinion.

From his vantage point, he said it was difficult to make specific players evaluations. They do not make it easy for the fans.

He offered the following.

The practices between the lines were very competitive. He saw a lot of second-team snaps. Evan Neal stood out, because of his size. He said Evan did well in the reps he saw.

He was disappointed with the Jets rush, except for McDonald and Johnson. He could not tell, but they were rushing against the Giants' second-teamers.

He could not see the Giants defense vs. Jets line.

He said in the 11 vs. 11 the Giants had no rush against the Jets. But he felt that this was intentional. After the initial contact, the DL stood up and did not pursue the play. This allowed Rogers to break the containment rollout and make big plays. He also said that the initial coverage was there.

He also offered the intensity from the Jets was far greater. He thinks Saleh laid into them after a terrible practice yesterday. They were all into it and were ragging on the Giants.

To be clear, I don't think anyone, certainly not me, is saying Banks is a stiff. But there have been comments from some that he is at or near Pro Bowl caliber. I think that the sentiment that some others may share with me is that after all the hype when he was drafted he would have had a bigger, more immediate impact than he's had. Still hopeful, as I am with Thibs

Remember he was drafted to play press corner in Wink's system. He's having to make a transition with the new defense. It might not be as good of a fit, or it will just take some time.

changes my mind or worries me any more than I already was. The 2nd CB is up in the air. The ILB's are thin due to injury and we will need somebody there is McFadden is unable to play week 1.

I think our Oline is going to be top 15, top 10 in the league this year if they stay healthy.

If Johnson and Nabers get open as they did today they are going to make some big plays..

Two things that should be interesting. The former Oline Coach the way I understood it, taught the oline to play a more horizontal attacking scheme and our new oline coach wants his tackles to get more depth. Depth would seem to help Evan with his balance issues since he has more room to gauge and recover as apposed to playing more flat giving him less room for error if he falters. Should be interesting.

In spite of Brandon Brown's press conference, the Giants freeing up cap space seems very likely to be able to pounce on a vet CB cut prior to making another team's 53 man roster.

Less likely it's a trade, given Schoen seems much more interested in accumulating picks prior to the draft than trading them away.

Great point!!

be made of one 1-on-1 pass rep? Of course.

But Evan Neal looked real good.

If we all agree the coaching at OL stunk i dont see why there shouldnt be hope for Neal.

Agree, but otoh, Sy said he had balance issues in college, so we might not be able to coach everything away. But if he can at least be better than Eleu, that would let us strengthen 2 positions with moving Elue back to G

A balance issue is correctable. Means he is bending his waste vs squatting his ass down.
