That's the most important takeaway especially since they have a bunch of players who are already dinged up.
I said last week after the Texans game the secondary is a majorconcern

Banks is not taking a step forward imv snd we don’t have a starting CB2
It’s a problem my friends!!!!

Seems to be highly overrated on this board. The Jets have a solid secondary with two good corners. Hyatt is a work in progress at this point. It may click in for him, but he’s not there yet.

Did Jones even target him. How can we assess the WR if the QB can't get his head out of his ass?

Cant target guys who aren't open and get no separation. Hyatt isnt a physical WR, right now he has 2 routes, a Go and Post. He cant even work underneath because he cant figure out spacing, he had the issue last year and he had it vs the Lions.

You are at practice witnessing these things? Another tired excuse that our skill players are not getting WIDE OPEN for Daniel Jones.

(sigh), like clockwork!

They looked shaky Saturday, they don't have a #2 CB and Banks has shown while he is in position to make plays just doesn't. Theres a reason they made cap space this week.

I don't see anything wrong with BBI showing concern over the secondary. They are apparently playing today like many of us had feared. And this against a 'good to very good' passing offense although not elite/top of league. Hoping we find a good use for some of that cap room and that it's for a legit CB.

Which is exactly why you would like to see something. Right now you have to assume Slayton is ahead of him, but you'd like to see that change.

I just think we need to limit our expectations on him for this season. We all want him to be the receiver he was at Tennessee, but he still has a ton of work to do at this level.

I am blown away at the obtuseness of these comments. How can you evaluate a deep threat if the ball cannot travel the projectory to exploit say threat. And you are mad at Hyatt?

Well Hyatt didn’t do much with Taylor and DeVito last year either. If you’ve been following Hyatt closely you would know that he has issues getting a good release against starting NFL corners. He’s also not the greatest route runner either. He’s a work in progress.

Theres enough concerns with this team that we dont have to go looking for more. Banks getting worked by a hall of famer is a learning experience.

"judging on today's reports", the Giants need to get this, get that. How does anyone here, have ANY idea what they were trying to get accomplished today? Its practice. Play calls and design on offense are often to evaluate certain things.
On defense, they may have had the DBs play in a certain fashion to evaluate them.

The Jets could easily torch them on both sides of the ball if that was THEIR objective and it seems like it was- as it is EVERY year.
I really wouldn't get to worked up over things.

I'd group him with Hyatt right now- a guy who could turn out real good but isn't there yet. Not a solid CB1 at this point, imo
LOL
UberAlias : 8/21/2024 3:27 pm : link
I'm not looking for concerns. I'm commenting on a poor practice report from our #1 CB, not saying cut the guy. There's a context.
Everyone knows they are weak at the #2 CB spot
RCPhoenix : 8/21/2024 3:28 pm : link
Look at who they were targeting in the second round in Hard Knocks.

The tradeoff now is getting pressure with Burns vs. having a #2 CB in the draft.

Hyatts Game is getting separation by his speed. He is not a physical receiver, who will go up and catch the ball. If that was the case you he would’ve made A better effort on Saturday to catch the under thrown ball.

Last season it was a vertical route or nothing from him. A guy with his speed should be killing the underneath. Isn’t college where you just run as fast as you can straight line and the quarterback throws it to you.

Which we supposedly knew a month ago, and I dont know why we continue to react to it like a UFO landed in the middle of metlife.

Some of us have been commenting since the draft that we have 1 starting level CB on this roster and people couldnt see past the offensive line struggle to notice anything else.
Secondary is a definite concern
HBart : 8/21/2024 3:34 pm : link
Until it's not. Getting torched by Rogers in a non-contact practice isn't unexpected, and while it isn't necessarily a bad sign, it's certainly not a good one.

Saleh comments earlier this week seem like he may let Rogers play a bit. That will be more telling. I doubt it ends up pretty; we'll see.
Still alot of holes on this team.

Well, the Daniel Jones stuff tends to crowd out a lot of other discussions.

Let's just hope the pass rush is effective.

dropping passes has become a recurrent thing with Theo Johnson. At least they're not getting turned into picks like with Engram. And to be honest, Nabers is not catching some balls that he should.

He didn’t look good when he was in the game the other day either. He’s an OK player right now. 2nd years are when guys typically take a big jump. Hopefully this applies to Banks.

So his good rookie year doesn’t count?

And we are using a preseason game and 1 practice as a barometer ?

Learning a new system doesn’t happen overnight

Total overreaction
Try to keep in mind
jvm52106 : 8/21/2024 3:44 pm : link
this:

LB Micah McFadden, LB Matthew Adams, LB Dyontae Johnson, CB Cor’Dale Flott, CB David Long, S Gervarrius Owens and S Jonathan Sutherland back at their facility to rehab.

3 LB's who were playing a lot of snaps, 2 CB's being counted on to compete for the 2nd CB spot, one S expected to compete for a backup role.. That means others are playing and or playing more and we are playing a new defense by the way.. The Jets should look better in these circumstances offensively and if they didn't I would be very worried if I were a Jets fan..

Hyatt and Banks
Archer : 8/21/2024 3:50 pm : link
It is hard to evaluate Hyatt without context.
It does not sound as if the Giants were pushing the ball down the field.

Most of, if not all the passes were short and underneath.
If that is the case then you would not expect Hyatt to have any receptions. That is not his game.

It is premature to make any judgment on his play

I will make the same comment about the secondary. There is no pass rush per se.
We do not know the coverage. Were the Giants purposely testing Banks and the other corners to see if they could cover man to man?

It sounds as if the Giants were not giving help to the corners.

These practices are to experiment and test players in awkward situations.

I do think that the Jets took this more seriously than the Giants.I am basing this on Gardner's reaction.

Nabers will remember this and payback will be a bitch.

I had Aaron Rodgers completing 16 of 22 passes with three touchdowns — to Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard and Breece Hall.

(Could argue four touchdowns if you include the other one where Wilson made McCloud look silly, though hard to say if someone else would’ve caught him.)

Garrett Wilson had six catches on eight targets today counting 7 on 7.

jvm52106 : 8/21/2024 3:57 pm : link
general for a team that hasn't won anything in forever.

Giants have been bad for a while, VERY bad really. But, over the last 10 years:

Gmen- 60-102-1

Jets- 55-108

when one team has had a pretty horrible run in their history and they still have 5 more wins over the same time frame, then you might want to check the egos and the comments at the door and actually win first.
It's funny how sensitive are some on this team,
