Banks' only weak day hasn't been watching the same guy that I have. Today just happened to be horrible, according to accounts.

I'm not judging him on his play at camp. I'm judging him on what I saw in games all last year, a respectable corner but not a special one. He had a 51.4 PFF rating last year, which is mediocre at best. Sauce Gardner, by comparison, was 88.6

He is not as good as Sauce and that is ok as most aren’t…but he did have a pretty good rookie year and I give no credence to PFF stats at all to judge one’s performance

I’m obviously not a believer in Jones and I’m not going to cry for him, but I can’t recall a QB getting dunked on as much as him from opposing players. But if he wants to have them STFU, prove it on the field.
general for a team that hasn't won anything in forever.
Giants have been bad for a while, VERY bad really. But, over the last 10 years:
Gmen- 60-102-1
Jets- 55-108
when one team has had a pretty horrible run in their history and they still have 5 more wins over the same time frame, then you might want to check the egos and the comments at the door and actually win first.
Nice there JJM!
The issue with social media now dissecting every practice
Is that we/they don't understand what the coaches are doing. For example, for all we know the Giants could have been leaving the cb's on an island (in man to man) to see how they do against Rodgers. This may be a defense they would never use in a real game against a top passing team. However now is a good time to see what would happen.
Same on offense, we just don't know what the coaches wanted to see today. For all we know Daboll could be calling plays to create drives and work the clock, since earlier practices have seen them airing it out.

The Giants are learning a new defensive system. It takes time. Banks had a solid rookie season, hopefully he can build off that. Sounds like he is struggling a bit. Some people expected him to be Canton bound after last year.
Also judging Hyatt off of some tweets is silly. Again he’s still learning and came in last year very raw. He has very good hands and adjusts to the ball well. He just needs to put it all together. I think he will learn for Nabers eventually.
The Jets always try to win the off-season. Every year they are going to win the Super Bowl and then don’t make the playoffs. They have a great team on paper. This is a meaningless matchup, we don’t face them.
As for the CB situation, it could be a lot of learning mistakes, playing slow because they are unsure. Hopefully that’s the case. I do hope they bring in a vet to help these guys.

wow.. Jones has to be one of the LEAST respected players in the NFL.. Of course the Jets had Zach Wilson at one point too so there is that.
A lot of NFL players are also very stupid.
Look at that KC player who just a few months ago was involved in cruelty to animals and domestic assault. Weeks within each other.
Browns DE Myles Garrett called Deshaun Watson raping 20+ women a "slip up".
Or go look at the NFL's top 100 who voted a WR and Lamar Jackson above Patrick Mahomes. They're great athletes, not scholars.
Seems to be highly overrated on this board. The Jets have a solid secondary with two good corners. Hyatt is a work in progress at this point. It may click in for him, but he’s not there yet.
Did Jones even target him. How can we assess the WR if the QB can't get his head out of his ass?
Do you know the plays that were called - and what option Hyatt was, the coverages that were played, and whether Hyatt was open?
it sounds like the offense did OK today, although they didn't throw the ball much down field. That's somewhat understandable against this defense. Obviously, they wanted more out of the 2-minute drill, but Nabers dropped the 40-yard TD. That's on him, and he admitted it.
The issue is our secondary getting torched. Some of that is to be expected given the extreme youth of the secondary and the new zone system. Also, Wilson is a STUD. That being said, the second CB spot is a problem. The Giants know it too.
I’m obviously not a believer in Jones and I’m not going to cry for him, but I can’t recall a QB getting dunked on as much as him from opposing players. But if he wants to have them STFU, prove it on the field.
He got paid the $$$$$$ while another qb who most of the players in the league knew was much better, and is much more popular with those players, did not. Ever since then players have been dumping on Jones at every opportunity.

Oh wait... we can't assess the WRs if the QB sucks, but if the o-line and receivers suck, we CAN assess DJ?
It is hard to evaluate Hyatt without context.
It does not sound as if the Giants were pushing the ball down the field.
Most of, if not all the passes were short and underneath.
If that is the case then you would not expect Hyatt to have any receptions. That is not his game.
It is premature to make any judgment on his play
I will make the same comment about the secondary. There is no pass rush per se.
We do not know the coverage. Were the Giants purposely testing Banks and the other corners to see if they could cover man to man?
It sounds as if the Giants were not giving help to the corners.
These practices are to experiment and test players in awkward situations.
I do think that the Jets took this more seriously than the Giants.I am basing this on Gardner's reaction.
Nabers will remember this and payback will be a bitch.
Yep, just like "it's hard to evaluate" DJ with a shit o-line and receivers last year...
It is easy for talented young defense backs to look good playing
Man-to-man in Wink’s defense. Asking them to play the next season in Bowen’s zone is much more difficult. Unfortunately, it is going to take at least 4 games to figure it out, in my opinion. Everyone is hoping for a fast Giants start because the middle of the schedule is tough, but defense is going to take some time to jell. Remember Spags defense in 2007.
I’m obviously not a believer in Jones and I’m not going to cry for him, but I can’t recall a QB getting dunked on as much as him from opposing players. But if he wants to have them STFU, prove it on the field.
You have a short memory. Eli was voted the most overrated player in the NFL by his peers (that's the players in case you didn't get that).

Barkley was offered a handsome contract and turned it down. This is old news. And players, many of them, are also dumb (see NFL top 100).
I have a friend who is an avid Jets fan and was at the practice. He also played defensive line at Miami so I trust his opinion.
From his vantage point, he said it was difficult to make specific players evaluations. They do not make it easy for the fans.
He offered the following.
The practices between the lines were very competitive. He saw a lot of second-team snaps. Evan Neal stood out, because of his size. He said Evan did well in the reps he saw.
He was disappointed with the Jets rush, except for McDonald and Johnson. He could not tell, but they were rushing against the Giants' second-teamers.
He could not see the Giants defense vs. Jets line.
He said in the 11 vs. 11 the Giants had no rush against the Jets. But he felt that this was intentional. After the initial contact, the DL stood up and did not pursue the play. This allowed Rogers to break the containment rollout and make big plays. He also said that the initial coverage was there.
He also offered the intensity from the Jets was far greater. He thinks Saleh laid into them after a terrible practice yesterday. They were all into it and were ragging on the Giants.

Eli also won 2 Super Bowls and Super Bowl MVP both times. MVP stands for ‘Most Valuable Player’, in case you didn’t know that.
To be clear, I don't think anyone, certainly not me, is saying Banks is a stiff. But there have been comments from some that he is at or near Pro Bowl caliber. I think that the sentiment that some others may share with me is that after all the hype when he was drafted he would have had a bigger, more immediate impact than he's had. Still hopeful, as I am with Thibs
Remember he was drafted to play press corner in Wink's system. He's having to make a transition with the new defense. It might not be as good of a fit, or it will just take some time.

changes my mind or worries me any more than I already was. The 2nd CB is up in the air. The ILB's are thin due to injury and we will need somebody there is McFadden is unable to play week 1.
I think our Oline is going to be top 15, top 10 in the league this year if they stay healthy.
If Johnson and Nabers get open as they did today they are going to make some big plays..

Great info, this post could warrant starting a new thread just to highlight this POV.
Two things that should be interesting. The former Oline Coach the way I understood it, taught the oline to play a more horizontal attacking scheme and our new oline coach wants his tackles to get more depth. Depth would seem to help Evan with his balance issues since he has more room to gauge and recover as apposed to playing more flat giving him less room for error if he falters. Should be interesting.

Asante #19 looks like he returned a kickoff for a TD
Thibs, Dex, Chapman, and Burns all looked good on 1 v 1’s

Anyone can look good against a zone defense in 7-on-7s., even Jones.

You can’t fool the players.
I think our Oline is going to be top 15, top 10 in the league this year if they stay healthy.
If Johnson and Nabers get open as they did today they are going to make some big plays..

I wouldn’t get worked up over Banks yet.
I'm cool with that. We need all, or most, of these young guys to step up if we want to see this team get good.
Good stuff - thanks.

Great info, this post could warrant starting a new thread just to highlight this POV.
But Evan Neal looked real good.
