2025 QB Watch - Shedeur Sanders

jeffro1 : 8/29/2024 8:48 pm
Well as we all know the Giants will likely be in the market for a QB in the draft. It would be fun to track these guys as the college season progresses.

While I doubt Sanders will be a guy they will be interested in due to all that comes with him, the Buffs are in action tonight. Sanders’ stats are off to a fast start but his 41 TD, while a nice throw on a comebacker, was a long play because of poor defense and tackling. Second TD was a duck while being hit to a WFO receiver who proceeded to outrun everyone on NDSU.

Let’s see how the rest of the evening plays out…

And yet they are losing

To a team that is not even in the FCS. Maybe we should wait a little while.
Buffs defense
jeffro1 : 8/29/2024 9:05 pm : link
Hasn’t stopped NDSU yet. Doesn’t bode well for the teams season but that doesn’t have much to do with Sanders.
Colorado looks like the same team
widmerseyebrow : 8/29/2024 9:27 pm : link
No defense, shaky protection at times against an FCS team, and a fast passing game. They'll outscore some teams, but they look very one dimensional.
Teams looks bad
jeffro1 : 8/29/2024 9:34 pm : link
Sanders with a nice two minute drill here. Good pocket presence and escapability with a couple lasers to the sidelines.
A slow FCS team

Yawn…
He looks good
Breeze_94 : 8/29/2024 9:37 pm : link
The OL situation is bad. But at least it gives a great look at how he performs under pressure.
I dont want Sanders anywhere near the Giants..

ND State is a FCS dynasty. They can play with most FBS teams.
Sanders is a Top 5 draft choice
M.S. : 8/29/2024 9:41 pm : link

Depend upon it.

The Giants would be extremely fortunate to secure the services of this young man.
You can call ND St a FCS team
nygiants16 : 8/29/2024 9:44 pm : link
but they are a dynasty in the FCS out a little respect on their name..

and Shadeur has a shit ton of talent, kid is tough as nails to, he takes a ton of hits and continues to stand in the pocket..

There is legit concern about the baggage he could bring, but there are some quality tools there. Especially the way he stands in the pocket and makes throws under duress.
Sanders is a top 5 pick
larryflower37 : 8/29/2024 9:50 pm : link
His Dad is a detractor for fans but I am not sure NFL GMs will see it the same way.
He lifts the talent around him and makes things happen with less, I would happy to see him in blue.

They’re very slow. The speed difference is astronomical.

Maybe. We'll see. But I think Shedeur has Raiders written all over him.
NDST switching QBs mid drive
JT039 : 8/29/2024 10:20 pm : link
Just doesn’t make sense.

Just absolutely killed a drive where the QB was cooking. Just stupid.
Pretty mediocre outing vs a FCS team so far
PatersonPlank : 8/29/2024 10:22 pm : link
I don't think Sanders will be in the top tier of QB's come season end. Hunter is a stud however.

Again, ND St is not an ordinary FCS team. And Colorado is a middle of the pack FBS team at best.

I’ve never seen it with Shedeur
JoeyBigBlue : 8/29/2024 10:52 pm : link
He looks great against low level teams but once he plays a top 25 team, he looks very ordinary.
Travis Hunter is fucking incredible
Anakim : 8/29/2024 10:57 pm : link
IDK if he ends up at WR or CB, but he's a fucking incredible talent.
lol again with the backup QB
JT039 : 8/29/2024 11:00 pm : link
I am very unimpressed with this coach. NDST may have been good in the past but this doesn’t look like a very good team.
Cam Miller
JT039 : 8/29/2024 11:01 pm : link
Does oook good though. He will get a shot at the next level.

It's embarrassing. They've won 10 of the last 14 FCS titles with one runner-up.

One of their players made our team as an UDFA, Jake Kubas.

He's athletic, no doubt about that, but he's not as athletic as say, Lamar Jackson or Justin Fields. His dad was way more athletic.

Average athlete in my view. Not fast or elusive, but he has the ability to move around and buy time.
Sanders
BigBlueCane : 8/30/2024 4:29 am : link
can't hit a hot route and blames his OL for unnecessary sacks.

Hard pass.

Deion say he only wnats his kids playing for like 7 or 8 teams and if theyre picked by someone else theyll "pull an Eli"
A couple things you can't question about Sanders is his arm strength,
barens : 8/30/2024 8:50 am : link
accuracy and seeing the field. Teams are really going to have to do their homework on character concerns and intelligence, but he sure can play the position.
It's possible to separate
Mike from Ohio : 8/30/2024 8:53 am : link
The QB play from the team's win/loss record and from his personality.

Colorado looks to be the same paper tiger they were last year. They will put up some points, give up a lot of points, and probably lose many more games than they will win.

Shedeur would bring a ton of baggage with him to the NFL to the point where he is likely only a fit in a few places with a few ownership groups. I think there is zero chance John Mara would allow the Giants to bring him in and his associated media circus.

Having said all of that, Shedeur Sanders can play QB. The guys stands behind a ridiculously porous Oline and takes big hits and delivers the ball on time and accurately. Yes he has Travis Hunter who is an incredible talent, but if you can't see the ball placement in the face of pressure over and over again, you are simply seeing what you want to see. The guy has an immense amount of talent. Arguing he isn't very good just doesn't pass the most basic smell test.
If Sanders
pjcas18 : 8/30/2024 8:57 am : link
checks all the physical and mental on-field boxes to be the "Mahomes" or "Brady" the Giants need to turn the franchise around, but they pass on him due to "other" reasons, this franchise deserves to live the groundhog day life of the 70's NY Giants football for eternity.

I didn’t watch the entire game,
Section331 : 8/30/2024 9:30 am : link
but I was impressed with what I saw from Sanders. He was fearless in the pocket, completing passes with multiple guys in his face. And I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss NDSU because they’re FCS, they’re better than half of FBS teams. Put them in the MAC or AAC and they’d be in the mix for the league title.

Travis Hunter is an outright stud, he may be the best player in the country.
I'm a fan, wish we could see him with a team like Michigan
Jim in Forest Hills : 8/30/2024 9:30 am : link
or Bama.

I like his poise and accuracy. Not a special athlete but has good feet in the pocket.
Sanders is a legit prospect and probably will be a good NFL QB
Greg from LI : 8/30/2024 9:31 am : link
But would you want Deion hanging around your organization shooting his mouth off? It's a real concern IMO

I welcome Deion, he will call out Giants leadership like no other. Fine with it.
Sanders checks a lot of boxes
jeffro1 : 8/30/2024 9:45 am : link
Pressure doesn’t seem to bother him much, he moves well in the pocket (but nothing special as a runner) and the arm strength is there. His one INT was a freak play that was a well placed ball that hit the heel of the CB after he fell down.

Colorado will be nothing special but that’s not the point…
One possible example from last nights game,
barens : 8/30/2024 9:48 am : link
with a little over a minute left in last nights game, ND State had 1 timeout, and Colorado had a new set of downs, they could have just run the clock out, and won the game. But they pass on first down, throwing it down the field. Do we really think this was the play that Pat Shurmur called? Or did Shedeur not run what he was supposed to?

I, may be reading too much into it, but I'm trying to understand what happened there, and goes back to the intelligence and maturity of Shedeur.
