Yankees are supposedly worth about $7BB, but as with the Giants it doesn't mean much, especially if you are a minority owner. Sport franchises generally produce little or no cash flow for the non controlling owners and you have little control over anything. The franchises rarely sell, so if you want to get value from your piece you have to sell it at a significant discount. Say 50% of its supposed value.

Why exactly is it surprising to you that people point that out when the team has been so bad? Or you find this to validate him? As someone else noted, owners don't make a ton of actual cash money from the teams. Hopefully with that, and dilution through the generations, they are encouraged to sell to cash in at some point.
