I know the 2024 Giants have more talent than the 2022 team that produced a playoff win. I know the GM and HC are connected at the hip and they are uncovering every stone to improve team to compete. I Also, do not get the sense they are on a short leash or on a "hot seat".
Well aware that most people that talk about the NFL feel the Giants won't do much better than last year's disaster, a season that basically ended after one series of unfortunate events. Many fans are cautious, wait and see approach or worse.
I had high hopes last year. Granted, I believe the OL coach when he spewed a ton of positive spin which was pure BS. So I like most am hesitant to believe this team can excel.
I do believe this New OL coach has the goods and the early results are encouraging. I am totally dependent on reports from others and even some players praising the OL. I believe the OL should be manned by men, then boys. We are certainly due...as its been 12 years of lousy OL play
Combine that with our outstanding DL coach, who is actually coaching the edges with the DL this year (how stubborn stupid was Wink with the DL and edge not coached together as a rushing unit). I am a big fan of Burns. Considering that Carolina was rarely in the lead and teams were running out the clock....so his opportunity to just pin his ears back was very few and far in between. I have very high hopes with the Giants pass rush.
Can this be the year that the trenches are part of the solution vs part of the problem?
Depending on 6 rookies is usually a major red flag, but Nabers is special; the 2 DBs(see backfield concern). As a Penn St fan, I know Theo. He is very talented but needs to learn the game, My favorite newcomer, Elijah Chatman, the baby Bison! Love it.
I believe Daboll wanted RBBC. I know Hard Knocks put the blame on Schoen, but I believe Barkley is gone mainly due to Daboll. I believe the potential of the RB room is very high and I believe it was addition by subtraction. Tracy is a prefect example. (An aside: As a Penn St fan, I loved Barkley. He is a great person, but I did not want to draft him. Incredibly gifted, but I never saw a 230Lb RB and wish him well except when he plays us.)
Concerns with the young defensive backfield are legit. I feel they are talented but very young. I hope Adoree lack of strong interest in FA motivates him to step up. He is talented enough to be a #1 Corner. I know we are concerns about the #2 corner, but to be honest, I am not sure Banks is ready for primetime #1 duties right now and he can use the Adoree Crutch. The pass rush will help.
I avoided the subject long enough....this leads me to Jones.
he is so frustrating. Looks and acts the part everywhere but on the field. Availability is vital and he has been MIA several ways. He moved the Giants between the 20s well enough, but has been piss poor scoring TDs, when TDs were needed, He certainly is dependent on a functional OL. He has the most talented targets since he has been here and Daboll has taken over the paly calling. All good!
But the NFL is relative. The Giants might be better, but if they still can't beat the NFC East is just not good enough. Daniel Jones must beat the Eagles and Cowboys.
The Eagles seem reloaded, ready for a Super Bowl run, but their collapse last year has not been explained and could still be an issue. The Cowboys had a weird off-season. they seem ready to start over. Washington feels like an expansion team. Daniel must show progress against the NFC East.
I know what I want... I want him to succeed! I want the Giants playing meaningful games throughout....I want the playoffs. I want to able to compete with anyone. Its time!
I call 2024 "Daniel Jones year or Next"
It falls on his shoulders. He has no more excuses. I think he knows it. the Odds are against him....but it is also all in front of him to put it together!
Go Giants! Beat the Viking
Dallas is Dallas.
I haven't a clue as to what is going on with the Giants. I just have no feel.
But when I ask, why did they collapse last year...just shruggs.
I have been waiting for their OL to get old for a few years now.
Giants have to step up against good or even great rosters in their division. They are going to have to earn it.
The Giants are going as far as the stars take them. It’s a star driven league.
Burns
Thibs
Dex
Okereke
The safeties need to hold the secondary together
Nabers
Robinson
Jones
Thomas
Younger players like JMS, Banks and the rookie DBs. It’s a lot to ask, but not impossible.
Thomas....if not the best LT top 2/3
Dex.....is best in the business...top 2. Takes on the load on his shoulders
Burns/Thibs edge combo could be one of the best combo in the NFL....still needs to prove it
Nabers is a force multiplier....making everyone else better.
Okereke has become one of the best MLB.
Dallas is the team to beat. Giants have a big opportunity to get in the mix. They need a split with the cowboys. If they can get to at least 4-2 in the division it will go a long way.
I expect us to tear up the Vikings and I’m looking for 10 wins if healthy. I think Jones is motivated to be successful as his back is against the wall. He can be a top 15 QB maybe even creep into the top 10. He has a competent OL and above average WRs now, it’s either this year or he is a journeyman QB. It’s that simple. I am rooting hard, if he is successful in resurrecting his career this team can go far.
I hear it every day.....
I do not know.....I don't think they have ever solved their collapse last year....but they believe they reloaded and Howie is a god.
All I keep telling them is..."Yup, Dream Team, no doubt Super Bowl champs"
But when I ask, why did they collapse last year...just shruggs.
I have been waiting for their OL to get old for a few years now.
George thanks, but it doesn't matter what Eagle's fans think. The reality is the Eagles lost key players in the offseason. They collapsed in season. Clearly Sirianni has issues with some players. I do not doubt Roseman's ability to replace players, and I do expect them to be good again, just not that dominant.
Dallas on the other hand is stable. They have the better version of Hurts in Dak. In season, Dallas is as good as anybody there is.
I hope the Eagles implode....but that is not what
Eastern PA thinks.....they believe they are the team to beat.
Rather play Washington early....
The only thing I'll add is that I really believe this staff is making excellent calls with their drafting and pro-personnel acquisitions.
I am excited about the mix and the developing talent on the team. I do think we need more punch on the Dline and at CB - but pound for pound I like the evolution. (and QB heh heh)
They have struck out a few times, but if you believe Bill Walsh, the best you can hope to achieve with your personnel selections is an 80% hit rate. While the jury is still out for me on JMS and Neal, I still have hopes for them; and if you take them out of the equation for now the FO is pretty close to that marker.
The team that will start to question things if they lose 1-2 games in a row is Philly. See the 09 Giants for example. 07 brilliance. 08 even more brilliance until December and then the Giants turned mortal again. Enter 09, 5 wins to start and then uh oh...the D started showing major cracks and they fell apart. Philly could be on a similar trajectory.
Bricillo put him right back into starting lineup. He/they have other options. Neal didn't get that luxury, thank goodness.
Early showing of this year draft is impressive....everyone has made positive impression
