Even a Gettleman-hater like me hesitates to knock him for not trading up from eleven to draft a corner when he was paying Bradberry and Jackson to start. If the Giants had traded up that year, it would have been for DeVonta Smith.
In hindsight, Surtain was a great pick. But I had no problem with Gettleman trading down after missing out on Smith (as well as Surtain). The disaster came later: picking Toney instead of the obvious choice, Christian Darrisaw.
RE: WRs and Corners are going to be draft targets every year
You can find quality receivers in the 3rd and 4th round. Quality corners are much harder to find (usually in the 1st or 2nd round). We definitely need to keep this in mind for upcoming drafts.

I loved Surtain out of Alabama. He was big, fast, great character, and has an NFL bloodline. I knew Bradberry was not a long term answer and I thought they had overpaid for Jackson, so I wanted Surtain. I was disappointed he did not fall to 11.

because their actions make me wonder how fucking business savvy they really are!
AJ Terrell set the record for a CB extension like 10 days ago and he got $81 million over 4 years. Now the highest CB contract jumps to $96 over 4 years ?!?!?! a $15 million bump seems excessive for the short time period.
healthy way to fuck the market for the rest of the NFL when it comes to future CB contracts.

This is spot on BBB. Either taking Parson's or trading back to get a Pick and Darrisaw. The pick and Darrisaw is actually could have been better if we picked Wilson (Dont need OT if Darrisaw). IMO Darrisaw and Wilson > Parsons or Smith and WAY better than Neal and Toney.
Damn I’m more surprised he’s been in the league long enough already

I get what you are saying but Surtain is a much better player than Terrell IMO. Terrell does not get his hands on the ball (0 picks the last 2 seasons). The Broncos are rewarding their best player.
🏈Jaylen Waddle: 3-years, $84.75M
🏈Penei Sewell: 4-years, $112M
🏈Patrick Surtain II: 4-years, $96M
🏈DeVonta Smith: 3-years, $75M
🏈Christian Darrisaw: 4-years, $104M
🏈Zaven Collins: 2-years, $14M
With Parsons probably waiting in the wings.
And we came away with Kadarius Toney from that draft 🙈

DG apparently wanted Darrisaw. Judge wanted Toney.
Wonder if our OL coaching could have ruined him?

Imagine if we just drafted Darrisaw instead.

Well someone else took the guy DG wanted, you expected him to have a Plan B?
