32. New York Giants (31): Any optimism that might have been engendered by the offseason version of "Hard Knocks" pretty much went out the window as soon as QB Daniel Jones reverted to his worst professional self during his preseason return.
Seriously, this is beyond moronic at this point. NYG may not be great this year, but we're entering a point where basic intelligence needs to be called into question.
The Giants are ranked 32nd because Daniel Jones threw a pick 6 within his first few snaps in his first preseason action since tearing his ACL?
Real solid analysis by USA Today.
The Giants deserve to be ranked near the bottom based on their record last year (6th worst record). The QB and OL injuries from last year are a non-trivial part of that 6th worst record. The OL is healthy/healthier (knock on wood) and staffed by proven vets. The additions of Burns and Nabers should be significant.
Personally, I'd think the Giants should be ranked no worse than where they finished in 2023 for the start of the 2024 season, so 27th.
But he also rebounded and made some plays which led to points. Despite his poor plan, the score was 14-10 against a legitimate AFC contender. So the argument here is flat out stupid. If we're that bad, I'm wrong and will own it. But if this team is anything close to .500 there's a lot of people who need to fess up.
if you cant be optimistic right now, regardless of how shit things have been - why post on a fan site and even follow?
Never gonna tell someone how to fan, but with life being so short and how much I personally look forward to football season, being a total downer right now while still engaging with the team seems like a colossal waste of your time.
Just my 2c - I'm pumped for sunday. Hope you guys are too.
the writer must be a Philly fan or something. It’s beyond obvious he hates the NYG.
Really -- I don't haytes the Giants - but when Daniel gave up that pick 6 to start the game off -- all I could think of was here we go again -- grrr
Until proven otherwise Daniel Jones is the one of the most frustrating QB's to watch -- like ever; and that ranking, without taking anything else happening on the Giants into account, is valid
I hear all the time --until the Giants prove it, blah blah blah. Yet for whatever reason, it has become common place to give teams like Commanders who never beat us and we swept last year, Panthers who traded away the #1 pick for a QB who has shown nothing, and Pats who aren't worth the time explaining how bad their roster is, are not held to this same when compared to us. NYG made some legit impact additions this offseason. Oline, pass rush, and WR. Our pass rush and down field WRs have a very good chance to challenge our opponents in some very legitimate ways, in addition to a starting Oline which for the first time in God knows how long actually looks pretty good. To completely dismiss that in the way that has been so common place among the national media is beyond me. It could play out that way. But it also could play out very strongly in the other direction. An awful lot needs to go really bad for this team take a step back despite the adds. That's not where I'm putting my money.
But not out of the realm of possibility. If the Giants lose their first two games and lose to the Panthers in Munich, this will be very much in play.
That's your expectation? Ok. We'll see in 3 weeks.
That is not my expectation. I had the Giants finishing 2024 with 5-6 wins, but that assumed they would be winning their first two games. I am simply saying that if they lose their first two games, bottom three in the league is a possibility.

I missed the first drive so that was actually the 1st throw I saw from DJ.
A nice welcome to the 2024 1st team O.
It’s the preseason so I mostly look for the good and there were a lot of good throws - enough that he actually ended up above 60 in pff scores.
How many in the grasp picks do you honestly expect him to throw? If it’s <2 this year then I don’t look at that one play as a too big a concern.
I'm more optimistic than you, but in general I find your posts to be pretty fair. I agree, it's not out of the possibility. But I find it hard to justify putting Pats, Panthers, and Commanders ahead of us in any ranking.

I agree with you on the Pats. And I believe we will split with the Commanders and beat the Panthers. But the schedule this year is arguably harder than last year, particularly given how bad the Jets and Pats were last year and how strong the AFC North is this year.
The national media has a simple and lazy narrative
-the Giants didn’t get/passed on a QB in the draft
-their best and only well known star player was allowed to go to Philly
-DJ hangs over a team in QB hell like a curse.
Therefore they will be the worst team in the NFL.
While I might think the ceiling for the Giants wins is 7, maybe 9 gms this season, the worst team narrative is silly.
I was just thinking about some of the posters on here that picked the Giants to win 11-12 games and others that still like Jones a lot what they must think when they saw the coments. LMAO.
It's horseshit anaylsis, probably intentional, but very funny. You wonder if someone from USA Today is a Giants fan and is pretty pissed off about the Giants #1 pick. hahaha LMAO.
I'll agree on Pats & Panthers. I think WFT might be better than us this season.
But the point remains. This is a garbage team until proven otherwise.
There you have it folks! The guy who posts most frequently and loudly on this board has spilled the beans. NY is garbage and he will have to waterboard himself Sunday morning in order to see any bright side of watching the team he spends half his life talking about in an anonymous corner of the internet.
A brutal write up but lets be honest on paper this team is around 23 to 27 until DJ is replaced. And i know preason means nothing but unlike last year there is no positive vibes going into week one
Ever in a "real" media outlet. I mean, literally -- to Uber's point -- the writer (who's a Jets fan, which explains a lot) "demoted" the Giants 27th ranked finish 4 places based on one bad play in pre-season. Epically stupid.
The Giants are the 27th ranked team in the league (well, the WaPo moved them up a spot) until they're not. Anything more is specious -- though you could make a thoughtful case based on nothing more than a ragtag team with street FAs and 3rd string QB finished 3-3 beating 2 playoff teams.
He's something beyond moronic - have to check the dictionary.

Who are you?
How many teams are the Giants clearly better than?
I think that the Giants are better than Carolina, NE, Washington and Tenn. That puts them as 28th best. But really, why do we even care what the USA Today (or any other publication/sportswriter) thinks about the Giants?
The season is about to start and actual results will replace all the predictions anyway.

I am not exactly mr. optimist but I agree that the "worst team in the league" sentiment seems to be more narrative based than a comparison of the Giants talent and coaching versus some of the other weaker teams in the league. Pats, Panthers, and Raiders will easily be worse. I also don't really like WFT as much as others do; bad oline talent with Bobby Johnson coaching them plus Jayden Daniels was sack-prone in college.
RE: How many teams are the Giants clearly better than?
There's a big difference between 2 or 3 and zero. I don't expect us to be picking top 5 next year, but it's not an unreasonable take. But putting us last behind Carolina and Patriots is flat out stupid. I'm sorry, but it is. Washington may be better, but history will tell you that betting on a rookie QB is not a safe bet. They've only beaten us 6 times in the past 10 seasons, so when we say "until proven otherwise", that sentiment apparently only applies to us. But regardless, if this team is even average, which is entirely possible, if not probably, it's a poor selection which only considers the downside of things. Trust me or not, if this team is worst in the league bad, I'll be at the front of the line waving my pitchfork. I despised Gettleman and the naysayers have us squarely in his territory.

My guess is those teams are ranked ahead of the Giants based on the QB room.
This is one of my problems with sports media now a days. They don't report news, they create it. Between this and posting the odds of the WNBA rookie of the year race.

Adding Malik Nabers, Carmen Bricillo as OLine coach, has made us worse? Worse than Carolina?
