TNF: Ravens At Chiefs Game Discussion Thread

Trainmaster : 9/5/2024 5:30 pm
Regular season NFL football is back!

Should be a good game between two perennial AFC playoff teams.

I'll never forget / get over the SB XXXV loss to the Ravens, so rooting for them to lose (even though I'm pretty tired of the Chiefs).

Sloppy game. Chiefs 31 - Ravens 23.

2 of his 16 completions so far have been over 4 yards down field.

That’s bad.

So Henry is running the ball with authority on their best drive and you would have gone away from it too? That makes no sense.

If I were coaching the Ravens I would keep Henry on a pitch count.

I think it's a pretty good guess that is what they are doing with him here.

Possibly, but meanwhile the game is getting away from them because their OC has Jackson trying to win the game with his arm.
Nice to see the Islanders mentioned on the broadcast.

Serious question, why would you want an Andy Reid team to win?
Flowers
MookGiants : 9/5/2024 11:58 pm : link
was wide open but Lamar didn't "miss" him. Flowers against zone defense should not continue to run. Sit down. Looked to me like that's what Lamar expected him to do there and Flowers just kept running.

The first down throw was a miss. I think the 2nd down play was as much on Flowers as anyone
Maybe not miss
Toth029 : 9/5/2024 11:59 pm : link
Two open receivers and it doesn't come down to the final play.

Why would anyone want the ravens to win? Unless they play DAL, WAS or PHI in the Super Bowl, they can fucking suck it.

Lol. We are just having that discussion in my house. My older son drafted Andrews. My younger son told him Likely will be starting very soon. Older son says he doesn't know what he's talking about. Then early in the game younger son went out and picked up Likely (obviously for next week)...before Likely went off.

How did Likely even come back in for that play?
Matt M. : 9/6/2024 12:01 am : link
I thought he possibly broke his arm or separated his shoulder.
If thats the way they are going to use Jackson
lono801 : 9/6/2024 12:02 am : link
He wont make it 10 games...
Though as long as Jackson is the QB
speedywheels : 9/6/2024 12:02 am : link
I don’t think we have to worry about them playing in the SB anytime soon.

How can someone who runs like that be so bad as a passer?
That was worth

This is why it took so long for them to give him a big contract. He’s one of those players that will have some great games and get you to the playoffs, but you’ll never win the big one.

Oh yeah, also when they show him in the booth. But he's usually speaking then, too. Just extra annoying to see his stupid grin as well, lol.

According to Collinsworth almost every play is the most “amazing” or “incredible” thing he ever saw

I can’t stand him or Romo. Both annoying as hell to listen to. Madden used to annoy me at times when he would evaluate the sweat lines on the Cowboys offensive lineman’s pants, but he knew when to shut the hell up so people could enjoy the game.
Lamar still thinks it was a TD
JT039 : 9/6/2024 7:07 am : link

All announcers have diarrhea of the mouth. I don't even hear them anymore. Many times I just mute it. So when people complain about these guys, just either mote it or turn the volumn down.

It was a total miss….sit down why he was running and open by 5 yards at least in front of him. BS

It was….coming back along the sideline approaching Reid he looked like the kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar, seg. Reid was the gruff parent, haarrumphh. Love the Spags, and, yes, that’s why I can enjoy a Chiefs’ win w/o necessarily rooting for it. Not to mention watching Reid’s offense, a savant.
I wanted the Chiefs to win
UConn4523 : 9/6/2024 9:49 am : link
but that has to be a penalty, otherwise there’s no point to the rule. The Chiefs are the new Patriots, they are going to be the beneficiary of most of the calls it seems.

Easy money. I think the only time I lost any pumpkin pie coins with the Chiefs was when they last to the Bucs in that SB.

Only the HC can call a TO on the sideline. The TO called by Spags was allowed when it should have been penalized.

Not saying that determined the game, it didn’t. But when you add that to all the bogus OL calls against the Ravens and not against the Chiefs, it just makes the whole thing smell like shit.

That's why I think the Ravens are in a weird version of "QB hell".

Most every other time, QB hell refers to a QB is merely mediocre - not nearly good enough to be among the best in the league, but does just enough good things to keep him from being among the very worst (easy enough to cut at that point), so you keep him around thinking he can he pretty good/efficient some day. With Lamar, he's a great player who does amazing things with his legs. He then does enough good things as a passer to make you think he MIGHT be able to lead you to a SB title someday, but then does more than enough bad things - especially in the playoffs and other big games - as a passer to bring you back to reality, that he's probably not the guy. But it's almost impossible to not give him a big contract based on the good things he does.

I have a college buddy who is a huge Ravens fan, and he was so pissed when they caved and gave Lamar the big contract - he wanted to move on from him so badly.
Enjoyable first game
Lines of Scrimmage : 9/6/2024 12:48 pm : link
Lamar took too many hits and he is down to 200 lbs this season. Hard holding up and it will at least make it more challenging to operate with all the cumulative hits.

Agree, some challenges with Lamar. He needs to have the running game to make a consistent impact. More will have to come from the RB's moving forward. D will need to make progress but they faced a very good team on the road and the DC is very young and in his first season.
