will be Theo Johnson. If the Vikings defend outside, while bringing pressure then the middle will be far softer and this is where Johnson could have a huge impact.
God I miss that analysis come Nov 1 when you give up on it :)
One beef - I don't think that anyone can categorically state that the NYG are better in any particular area and at the same time preach "it can always get worse".
You'll have to excuse Giants fans that read "it's odd that the fans and media are down on the franchise this year because they have a better roster"....at this point...as optimistic as I am about the Giants prior to week 1 - there's about a decade worth of disappointment that is in everyone's memory. Put me down for a "I'll believe it when I see it"...
I agreed with your comment about the OL (those with a half of brain..). I think the season is "mostly" about the OL until those type of comments don't need to be made (or as often). Then Jones.
Concerned with the RB situation and glad you brought up the impact of losing SB and how the new RB's fill in. Significant improvement in the OL (and to a degree the improved WR's) will help with that.
two bad QBs drafted by NY teams nearing their end of the rope on their starting chances suddenly finding themselves in best situation of their careers, trying to revive them with the help of their "QB guru" head coaches.
There aren’t many legit winnable games on the schedule
I think the Giants are more interested in explosive plays than deep shoots. So Eric is spot on -- getting the ball out quickly in step is the key in my view.
Interesting challenge for both teams with defenses integrating so many new key pieces. In our case a new scheme. I'd think we have the advantage with Daboll at least knowing Flores inside out, and calling plays here for the first time.

2nd to the year of Jones is in my view Bowen. The tools he has should be enough to generate the type of turnaround the Vikings had on defense last year. As long as most stay healthy this can be a top half or top third unit, and as long as the secondary isn't a total disaster. and obviously this week they are healthy.
i have a reasonable amount of confidence in daboll's familiarity vs flores. singletary is enough run game and they can scheme short stuff/rpos like 2022 if nec so i dont see jones imploding.
can the defense definitively win vs darnold in his first game as a viking? they should. but Patrick Graham's defense should have won at home against Teddy Bridgewater once upon a time too. and instead he went like 100 for 100 on 4th downs. that's the type of loss that i think would be most painful and is inexcusable. looking back jones passed/ran for 300 yards that game with 2 tds. no ints but 1 fumble. defense just couldnt get off the field.

I think I'd go with this storyline.
RE: There aren’t many legit winnable games on the schedule
So they better get this one. The gauntlet begins after next week in DC, another winnable game.
Your opinion, not fact
Yeah, I find it odd we determine winnable games in 2024 begore a down is played.. Many teams dealing with drama, cracking rosters and injuries...We have no idea which games are winnable but talent wise we can win any game we play to our talent..
mattered is (paraphrasing) “ which version of Jones shows up (does he rose to the occasion or crumble). That will tell us who wins.
Well, he’s never shown he can handle this kind of defense so I’m not hopeful.

Isn’t that obvious? Clearly if the game were factually unable to be won by one of the teams, they would not bother to play it. Does everyone now have to start qualifying their thoughts as “this is only my opinion, not a fact?”
Wow, Patrick Mahomes is really talented (but this is only my opinion, not a fact.). I don’t want to mislead anyone.
The New York Giants Super Bowl era. In other words, since 2011.
Ah. Not how I read that at all. Generally speaking when someone says "the Super Bowl era" they are referring to the league.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. Though "since the 2011 Super Bowl season" might have been more clear.
Oh boy - now it’s my turn to be that guy: Saying
Quote:
…so much of the team’s offensive woes for the past 13 years has been due to the offensive line
puts ‘our offensive woes’ back to the start of the 2011 season. I think you wanted to say ‘since the 2013 season’ or ‘the past 11 years’. I’m hoping the ‘13-years’ part isn’t prophetic (I’ve expected the OL to make a jump far too often to take it for granted).
Either way, great write-up and let’s start the year with a W!
"Combined with Andrew Thomas, these three new additions appear poised to give the team it’s best line since the Super Bowl era. "
We are shooting for an above average OL this year, certainly not our best in the Super Bowl era.
Note the word "since."
Yes, "since the Super Bowl era." That was precisely what I was noting. Our best OL since the 1966 season seems to be an overstatement to me.
The inclination to rationalize, to yourself, what someone says, is amazingly — long dead in public discourse. The impulse to automatically contest any statement, even when the intent is honestly apparent, to get a response in line with another thought you had, has taken over all discourse. In short - you know what he means - come on, attention whore!
As die hard fans of this team, let's not entirely close the book before the season starts and have some hope that with better weapons and protection better production will also ensue.

3-14 when he doesn’t.

I think I've been pretty clear on that in both my podcasts and posts.
Gotta admit, had a huge chuckle right off the bat with this line:
“Spoiler alert. The 2024 New York Giants are not going to the Super Bowl.”
Go Giants… Beat Minny!
Hoping to see some innovative, "Crazy Ivan" plays from Daboll/Jones!
:-)

It's been some time since a week 1 game has had such an undercard feel. Kenny Albert and Jonathan Vilma?

I understood it. It's a Giants preview, not a league preview.
That's not exactly helpful advice...

I think most of us understood what you were saying, Eric.
Thanks for the preview.
I'm looking forward to seeing what Jones can do behind the best OL and with the best WRs he's ever had, by far.
