Touchbacks to the 30 yard line

BestFeature : 9/6/2024 2:54 pm
Does it bother anyone else that now touchbacks are on the 30 yard line now? With the range of field goal kicks are we just never going to see drives where no points are allowed?

I think the teams who kick the ball through the end zone and don't have a serious strategy will suffer.
If you were watching last night,

you saw 9 drives where no points were allowed.
Sean Payton wants it up to like the 35.

The NFL keeps trying to fix its own issues instead of stepping back and seeing the big picture. The game is hurting because of it, at least to real fans which is why they need the new audience.

I get it, but overall there will be a lot fewer. And it's completely artificial it's like making the net bigger in hockey. It's not more points due to better skill, but the offense getting all of the advantages.
Kickoffs

It's clearly too easy for kickers to kick it deep.
Simple answer is to move if back to the 30 again.
It does but not as much as it used to

I think I've come to terms with the fact they're going to continue making changes that prioritize profits over the game until it's watered down and unwatchable

Private equity getting their foot in the door is the beginning of the end.

Hopefully it takes a while or maybe they reverse course but I'm not holding my breath on the latter
Since injuries were the reason why the KO rules were changed

I'd love to know if CFL/College kick off's have the same injury problems/percentage injury rates the pre 2024 NFL kick off's supposedly had.

You would think that both the CFL and NFL would change their kick off's if that were the case.

I generally feel the same as you. This is very much not the game I loved as a young man.
Seemed to me that one of

the smartest HCs in football decided that the 30 yard line is better than a big return.
I missed actual kickoffs

Last year with record low returns it was basically erased from the game. Definitely need to see more of this new format to form an opinion, but I'm glad they're trying something.

Yup. No way teams risk big returns. They’ll just give the ball to the other team at the 30 to eliminate that risk completely
