The Replacements
(And I agree on The Last Boyscout. Very underrated fun movie- always thought Willis and Wayans made a funny team and should have made a sequel).
But it’s so sincere in being so over the top loony that it actually makes for an entertaining watch. It’s kind of the ultimate ‘80s buddy action movie (yes I know it was 1991. Culturally it was much more ‘80s than ‘90s), Shane Black writing at his most Shane Black level.

Not sure how I forgot The Replacements. When Shane Falco goes to meet the chick at the bar and then Madden and Summerall are narrating if he should go for it was fuckin hysterical.

The Friday night football theme song and intro in the beginning was an amazingly dead-on portrayal. If Friday night football ever were a thing, the NFL should simply recommission them.
The comedies when it comes to football movies. As was mentioned before, The Replacements is probably my fave. Necessary Roughness should get a mention too.
It starred OJ Simpson as TD Parker the aging RB who makes the switch from player to coach and Delta Burke (pre-expansion) as an NFL owner. Ogre from Revenge of the Nerds was in it.
Several other NFL players had cameos or roles like Marcus Allen, John Matuszak, and our very own Lawrence Taylor had a role as "Tombstone Packer" the most feared defensive player in the league.
Definitely but The Last Boy Scout revolved around football the whole movie. Damon Wayans was the ex-players. The owner was the bad guy. The congressman was at the stadium. There were players in the movie. They were on the field. You saw Billy Cole score a TD in the beginning and then kill himself. Point Break was a great movie with less of a connection.
Here's two scenes from "The Male Animal" (an obscure screwball comedy from 1942 that isn't streaming anywhere)... pep rally scene best drunk monologue
It's a shame that it's almost impossible to find (maybe on ebay), because it's an enjoyable movie that's well worth your time.
Little Giants
Honorable mention Varsity Blues
Then you have Rudy, both The Longest Yards, and We Are Marshall.
I have to add this in. It wasn't really a football movie but revolved around football and kicked ass. That movie is The Last Boy Scout.

Any Given Sunday also warrants a mention.
Ed O'Neill has one of the great line deliveries of all time in Little Giants.
"That's no cheerleader, that's my niece Becky ... and she's pissed."

Add in Semi-Tough and The (original) Longest Yard and that's the Trifecta.
Robin Williams and Kurt Russell. Ridiculous concept, but a good movie. I used to watch that often back in the 1980s.
Absolutely agree - great, great movie I watched as a kid and will still watch today.
Great scenes, and as we know, Burt was a really good college football player.
Ohio State Johnny Utah > Ohio State Shane Falco?

MASH (yeah, not technically a football move, but there is a great game in there)
All the Right Moves
North Dallas Forty
I don't know what it is about the Replacements. I hate all of the football gaffes, but whenever I see it on, I have to watch it.
Is All the Right Moves really a football movie? There's football at the beginning and then the bulk of the movie is about his plight.
Original Longest Yard is great and North Dallas Forty is another.
Any Given Sunday is ludicrous. The eyeball scene is what lost it for me.
And it wasn't just the beginning, football was the central plot device throughout.
My favorite football movie is The Best of Times with Robin Williams and Kurt Russell.
I also enjoyed The Draft.

Such a gem that rarely gets brought up.

And not only because it was a veiled slam on the Cowboys 😄

Great acting, solid story and some brilliantly funny scenes.
