Anyone watching Ewers against Michigan??

bluewave : 9/7/2024 3:10 pm
If he plays like that for the rest of the year he's going to challenge Carson Beck for #1 QB on the board!
So I take it Martindale's defense is not playing well?

Ewers

Is the prospect I’m most excited to see take the next step. He has tremendous arm talent, and has all the tools to be a franchise QB… he would look good in blue 👀 ✔️
I like his pocket presence
Blue Baas : 9/7/2024 3:53 pm : link
He's not a very mobile guy, but he seems to have plus awareness. Definitely a trait I hope they would be highlighting.
I haven't been watching the QBs
JoeyBigBlue : 9/7/2024 3:59 pm : link
But if Daboll is the coach, the QB is going to have to have a huge arm and have some mobility. Daboll loves taking chances down the field, and his offense does not work with a average armed QB. Plus with the receivers the Giants have drafted lately (Nabers and Hyatt), it makes all the sense in the world for the QB to have above average arm strength.
His problem?
Carl in CT : 9/7/2024 4:04 pm : link
The average NFL QB is 6ft 3 and 220lbs. When you are listed 6ft 2. 210lbs which means you are probably 6ft1 or under and 200 lbs . You don’t have the measurables. I’m not saying he can’t play but is starting behind the eight ball.
I don't like either...
bw in dc : 9/7/2024 4:05 pm : link
as a top prospect, but I'd take Beck if forced to choose.

Better size and athleticism.
Sanders is also listed at 6ft2
Carl in CT : 9/7/2024 4:08 pm : link
And 210-215. I like to see where they end up after measurable.
Beck

6ft 4 and 220. Prototype size.

I thought his short game looked fine. He hit a couple of guys with swing passes right on time and out in front to get a nice YAC. One was for a TD in the Red Zone.

Consolation prize for me. His size can be a concern and he doesn't have the biggest arm. But he makes decent and quick(er) decisions. I'd have Ward and Beck ahead of him right now. Ward is on top of my board right now. But the season is still very young. The good thing is, I think we'll have choices... no matter where we'll be picking.
I like him
PatersonPlank : 9/7/2024 5:05 pm : link
He's got a good arm, is pretty mobile in the pocket, and throws well on the run. He also throws from numerous arm angles. Finally he seems to really understand the offense, which I think is a must if you are playing for Sark. He knows where the ball is going to go right away.

All these things are super important in the NFL. The way he would scramble around and hit someone is in stride was impressive

IDK, does it say Ewers is terrific or that Arch may not be all that BBI thinks he is?
Just as an aside, because I don't know where else

to mention it, but Zach (BYU) Wilson's brother, who was the top H.S. player in UT last year, is the b/u QB for U of Utah, behind Rising as a freshman. He's listed as 6 feet even, so he's probably 5'10"

I think it both speaks volumes about what Texas thinks about Ewers, and Ewers ability to handle that pressure to have that kind of prospect behind him.

Either way, his play on the field speaks for itself.

I guess it speaks for both of them. Arch Manning, who it seems the majority of BBI wants to draft as soon as he's eligible, has not been able to beat out Ewers in 2 years. Arch will only have one year as a starter, assuming he's next man up, at the end of his junior year when he can declare for the draft.
He looks like a career NFL backup to me
Tom in NY : 9/7/2024 9:51 pm : link
The lack of a big arm and top level athleticism put a cap to his ceiling in the NFL.

Very good CFB QB, middle of the road NFL prospect.

BTW, Texas looks stacked.

Lines of Scrimmage : 9/8/2024 6:44 am : link
but it was too easy for him to get a better evaluation. This UT team is impressive and it may have the best OL in college.

Hopefully better challenges moving forward to see how he handles more situations like he will see in the NFL. I think he is first round material but more in the later half of round 1. Seeing him in prior seasons I never saw the "it" factor.

At this point

I think the #1 quality the Giants should be looking for is a QB's ability to "see the field," process what's happening, make good decisions, etc.

Ewers has apparently been inconsistent on the decision-making part, but seems to have the right traits overall.

Jones looks the part, is athletic, and is smart - this, however, is the stuff he seems to be missing.

I think this may be a misinterpretation. There's a large segment of fans who aren't necessarily pining for Arch, but assume (and vocalize) that the Giants are (or will be).

The Giants need prototype processing after the snap.

He was athletic enough to alter the pocket yesterday, and avoid sacks on his own, along with the fact that he gets the ball out fast. But he's going to be just a backup...just nonsense.

If the line holds up and he doesn’t have a second less than everyother Qb in the league then he needs to go. We will see in three hours.

Time for a transfer to see what he is made of. The same mold or a different one.
I think you need to watch Ewers more
PatersonPlank : 9/8/2024 10:16 am : link
The guy has been doing this vs the top college competition for 3 years now. He's played @bama twice, @ Mich, Washington U twice (once in the Nat Semifinal), Oklahoma many times. It is not a stretch to say he is the most battle-tested QB in college.

The guy is playing top shelf vs the best college has to offer. The guys has a strong arm (by the accounts of people who scout this stuff), really nice touch throwing the 2nd level, and is much more mobile that you are giving him credit for. He moves around the pocket extremely, throws well on the run, and can throw from many different arm positions.

If you are going to ding him for having a good team around him, then ding Ward, Beck, and basically every other QB in the pat who has been drafted high.

For some reason so on this board don't like him, but I think it has more to do with rooting interests than anything else. I mean until yesterday some were pinning for Riley Leonard.

By the way I bet Michigan goes on to have a very good season, and looking back it will be that Texas was just that good

Why would he transfer? Ewers is gone next year and he’ll start. From all reports, he loves it in Austin.

Spot on. I will admit that I am biased since I have watched him since he was in 6th grade. The claim that he has a lack of arm strength is downright comical. He will have 4 full yrs of college under his belt, will have been well coached and will not be fazed by the next step to the NFL. He will end up being the best QB to come out of the ‘25 draft.

This + 1,000. Daniel Jones has all of the physical abilities you need to be an elite NFL QB. It’s his decision making that is his Achilles heel. You need a guy who can make all of the throws. Beyond that, I don’t care much if they are 6’ or 6’4”.
