The Cubs are better than the trash teams they’ve been struggling against the past two weeks.
Gleyber has actually hit rather well since moving to lead off.
I don’t care what LeMahieu’s contract is, he needs to be gone. He is cooked beyond all hope. He should retire but, if he doesn’t, bite the bullet and release him.

@BryanHoch
Nestor Cortes was not pleased with being moved to the bullpen this turn through.
“Obviously, I was upset. I feel like amongst all the starters, I’ve been the workhorse here,” Cortes said. “Once [Gerrit] Cole went down, they picked me to be the Opening Day starter; not necessarily the No. 1, but the Opening Day starter. I had to switch my routine there, and now they do this.
“I’m never going to back down from a challenge, I’m never going to leave my teammates out to dry. You’re always going to get my best effort, no matter if I’m happy or not. That’s what I did today. I just came out there and proved that I can be put in any situation, and from here on out, if that’s what’s my role, then I’ll accept it.”
No pitcher would likely be happy about it. So long as this is the extent of his grumbling, not a big deal
Rank among Ensigns Greg. He is the worst starter. Not that he is bad. But Gil and Schmidt have higher upsides. I also think he has the head and cajones to close.
Verdugo is 2 pulled ground ball outs to the right side (fielded by 1st and 2nd basemen) from setting the Statcast era record, which started mid-late 2010s.
I think that record doesn't take into account outs recorded by shift players (e.g., a SS playing over there), so it's a bit unfair to him, but it does quantify what we all see.
As late as June 16, he had a slash line of .271/.317/.451.
His stats were, objectively, much better than Wells's at the time. That .271 BA and .451 slug are in fact each twenty points better than Wells' current stats.
It wasn't sustainable. Trevino, Verdugo, Rizzo and Volpe all got off to great starts that didn't last. That's why the Yanks started 49-21. Trevino made his contribution to those wins.
Nestor has been hot & cold this year, but I like the guy. He's right--Stroman is the weak link in the rotation--but Stroman can't work out of the pen like Nasty Nestor can.
Stanton is another one who's tough for me. One out 20 ABs is a monster HR; two out of 20 are laser-beam doubles hit into the gap where it takes two singles to score him from 2B, and the other 17 are strikeouts or DPs. In fairness he can go on a hot streak and carry the team for a few weeks at the plate, but the inevitable hamstring injury jogging to 1B brings it to a halt. Club option on him in 2028, so he's here for another 3 years.
Somehow, someway, this team that hasn't played .500 baseball over the past 70 games is in 1st place with 20 games left in the season, so I guess it's tough to be complaining.

Stanton has gotten scalding hot in the playoffs for us, so I'm willing to take my chances despite his pretty obvious deficiencies.
-This is the weirdest Yankee team I can remember. They could lose in 2 games WC weekend or get to the World Series. And there are about 6-8 teams in the MLB that could do the same. Just a weird up and down year in the MLB.
-Utter insanity continuing to run Verdugo out there every day
- no problem at all with Nestor's comments especially with the way and took the ball and got the job done. He's a competitor And has taken the ball every 5th day no questions asked.
-you have to take the good with the bad with Stanton. He's streaky and can carry the team when he's on and has done it in the playoffs.
I've never been much of a Cashman basher in here but the handling of the roster this season tells me it's time for a change. We need new voices. It's true if Trevino doesn't get hurt mid July who knows if we get to see this Wells breakout? The way they are handling Dominguez right now is criminal.
But that’s the point, Wells was hitting .210 while splitting time with
a journeyman. He was a first rounder, defense much better than advertised, why wasn’t he given the same opportunity they Volpe had? Does a hot spring trump everything?
Now same thing is happening to Dominguez. He brings so much more to the table, why isn’t he getting all the experiences right now to tap into that potential? If Cashman had his way, Wells would still be hitting .210?!?! Trevino is who he is, Verdugo is who he is, and not going to be here next year to boot, what the fuck is Cashman doing? Everyone Yankees podcast is slamming him, even the national ones are picking this up.
been different than all the other young players that have come through the Yankees farm system the past 10/15 years.
They are:
1. The GM anointed him and protects him no matter what after refusing to trade him or sign several all star free agent SS to hold a spot of him.
2. The Marketing Department is all in on him as a ticket seller.
As we have seen with Verdugo, DJLM, Rizzo, etc. Poor on-field results face no consequences, with no accountability for either effort or performance.
If the Yankees are ever going to win their 28th World Series, it will be on the GM for life's terms, with the players he handpicked, because he's convinced he’s smarter than all the other MLB GMs, the media, and the Yankee fanbase. He only wants to win if he can take full credit and prove everyone who calls him a baseball idiot wrong.
In the offseason, they need to look for 1B, 3B, and a closer, plus a reliable reliever or two.
It looks DJLM has two more years on his contract, so the team is on the hook with him until he is a free agent in 2027 at age 38.
Stanton just missed a 2-run HR by a few feet.
Exactly. I do not want to see Holmes. Nestor is dealing. Easy outs.
He has a I do not give a shit attitude.

Agree. DJLM is beyond cooked.
That walk probably just bought him another week in the lineup.

.204/.270/.277 .547 OPS
DJ LeMahieu since May 28 (2024 debut):
.204/.269/.259 .527 OPS
These two players (and stats) have drawn much criticism.
But who's this?:
.171/.221/.225 .446 OPS
Answer: Anthony Rizzo, in 35 games and 140 plate appearances dating back to May 14, a full month before he suffered his injury.
It took an injury to Trevino for us to find out how good Wells can be. This organization just has a weird insistence on relying on veterans.
Cortes was probably taking a shot at Stroman, and his remarks are consistent of the mindset of veterans on this team.
Sure, the Rice experiment failed, but now we know what we have going into next year, which is zilch.
