so I thought about this for awhile Eric, and understand you can't mention the Giants or football, but I'd argue BBI has become a community beyond just the Giants. I know it would be a fine line for the designer but a shirt that honors the website without mentioning the Giants is still something I think people in the community would still purchase.

Plus with the 30th anniversary of the website coming up, some sort of limited edition apparel run could have a market.

Found this site in 1999, and have been checking almost daily since then. Don’t know what I’d do if it wasn’t around.

If I'm reading it correctly it looks like credit card saves you a few cents over Venmo (e.g., 25 cents on a $50 contribution).

I appreciate all you do to keep this site not only up and running, but for all of the incredible content and contributions you get from the community.

Granted I am no lawyer, but if there is no reference to the NFL or the Giants, why would the BBI name or logo fall under the purview of the NFL? Or were they just looking for a cut because they are the NFL and there was money to be had?

In a nutshell yes. Despite going back and forth with the lawyers, they put in writing in that if we sold any apparel (we were selling t-shirts with BBI on them), they would shut down my site. I asked the Giants to intervene and they declined.

The problem is they could spend big bucks on lawyers. Doing so would bankrupt me.

BBI keeps me sane.

I get that. It sucks that you don't have to be right if you have enough money to bankrupt the other side so they can't fight, but I imagine that is not uncommon for the league. When you have deep pockets like them you don't have to go toe to toe with anyone because they know they don't have to be right.

I increased my donation slightly from the last time you ran a contribution campaign to cover your payment fees. I sent you a check in the past, but decided to contribute electronically this time.

The idea that the nfl has ownership of "BBI" is a joke. There are a lot of BBIs out there that have nothing to do with football. There are a lot of uses of "Big Blue" out there as well, not the least of which is IBM back in the day.

It is so bogus and annoying but I also get why you decided to cease and desist.

And all the contributors who make this site so amazing. A particular shout out to Sy for all your fantastic write ups. The new BBI Podcast is a fantastic addition. And I have to thank Larry for his outstanding historical articles - my grandfather used to show me his photos taken at the Polo grounds (1954 was his favorite season) - this is a storied franchise of which we’re all fans.

For those of us who live outside the USA, this is single-handedly the best source of news for our NY Football Giants - hard as they have tried to make me no longer want to be a fan - this site keeps the dream alive.

My donation in no way matches my gratitude to all of you for your efforts and contributions.

I wonder if we did merchandise for the podcast If it would be seen differently- ie it is specifically a show not BIG BLUE.
