For one Single Thread- Can we all agree we want Daniel Jones

It’s week 1. If you’re not hopeful I don’t know what to tell you. At 4:30pm it might be a different story. lol.

We are well past the point of any play-by-play or game by game analysis. Jones may do something well, something poorly, but in the big picture everyone knows what he is.

I care about the Giants being a top level team. Not SB or bust. But a team that regularly competes at the top of the league. Daniel Jones at $40M+ is not part of that.

The epic disaster for this team is winning 7 or 8 games, Jones playing like Jones, and that being good enough for Mara and co to continue digging deeper into this pit of despair.

My question is why are you continuing with the narrative that Mara is controlling roster decisions?

7-8 wins would illustrate that the team is improving and you are against improvement?

Totally agree. Hard to be in a better position than JS/BD were in before the decision was made with Jones. They chose to go with Jones longer term. Nonsense putting it on Mara.

as well as he can. If he's injured again or doesn't rise to at least being an upper half QB I want us to try to draft someone better. I Don't trust the OP's motives, and certainly not his judgement.

I think the collective decision making around quarterback has been poor. My guess is like any complicated organization, a number of opinions went into retaining Jones in the medium-term.

Daboll is the guy who functionally has to have faith in the players provided to him. The GM and owner need to exhibit more sobriety.

course I will root for Jones to have a great year, as I will for all Giants players. Jones is also a high-character person, incredibly tough even by NFL standards, and has a fantastic work ethic. But Jones to me is a mostly a game manager QB who has difficulty reading NFL defenses. I'd be surprised if that changes as he progresses through his sixth season.

Is it improvement? Sure. But what good does that do us. We'd still miss the playoffs and would also miss out on a chance to get a franchise QB.

There's nothing worse in sports than being average. You either want to be great and have a chance to win it all or terrible and a chance to draft the player that will make you great.

Winning 7-8 games may make Mara happy because he can save face, but it's not what the franchise should hope for.

This. I would love to see Daniel Jones win the league MVP as the Giants win the Superbowl. I am sure everyone on this thread would take that. I expect there is very little chance of either of those happening, but I hope it does (two different thoughts that can co-exist in one person).

But I also want the Giants to be a perennial contender, and that starts with upgrading the most important position on the field. When this season is over, that needs to happen regardless of what happens this year. The last 5 years were not a mirage.

If some folks on this board would realize that thinking Jones sucks, but still rooting for the Giants to win are not inconsistent thoughts that can’t logically exist in a fan of this team. The OP of this thread seems to not understand that.

That’s too simplistic. Have to play better, in all facets and more consistently. Compete well and beat some top teams too.

A few extra wins could mean nothing.

This is accurate, which is why there is probably going to be a massive overreaction to whatever Jones does today. Some will see evidence of what they believe, and others will see one game that is not representative of who he is.
