When a QB has struggled in the biggest of games with everything around him necessary to succeed, can you expect it to get better once the inevitable salary cap crunch peels some of that talent away?

Playoffs are a small sample size, it takes 1 hot streak to get to the title game, and many that do never get that hot streak again. I don’t like Dak but he’s perfectly capable of winning, he just hasn’t yet. And maybe he never does but they are a top 2-3 team to represent the NFC for the next 4 years. That kinda matters.
Probably a while, long term deals cap earnings the way things are structured. Better to take 3/4 year deals for QBs who rarely face career ending injuries anymore.
For the Washington Football Team to be relevant for the 1st time in 30+ years in a years. Dallas and Philly are likely to age/price out in the next few years. Giants are likely to be in a period of extended average-ness
What options do they have?
Let him walk, have a late round pick and hope a QB falls in your lap.
Dak gives them the best chance of a SB in the next 4 years.
IMO I don't think Dallas can win a SB in Dak next contract but I am not sure it all his fault.
If dak wanted to stay in Dallas this was an obvious decision for both sides. Comps were clear he’d be qb1 and Jerry is 82. Not enough jet skis in the world worth breaking up the marriage.

If Rex Grossman could get to a Super Bowl, then I guess anyone is capable of a “hot streak”. Yet, there’s a difference between Eli Manning and Donovan McNabb. Winning the Super Bowl usually requires an ability to elevate your game that simply haven’t seen in Dak. Nor have I seen anything that leads me to believe that he can maintain the same level of regular season performance once the talent around him gets picked apart due to salary cap inevitabilities.

I think some of it is a little overstated because it assumes great players never struggle.
Peyton Manning finished his career 14-13 in the playoffs. He was 4-6 in his first 10 postseason games and people said he was a lifelong choker, and it wasn't just because Brady was in the way. Lost to the Dolphins, Titans, Jets, Steelers before the playoff rivalry with Brady even started.
and I am particularly lacking in the gray matter when it comes to finagling the salary cap, whereby a team like the Eagles seems to sign whatever player they want to and "somehow" make it work.
That said, how is it possible for the Cowboys to pay nearly 1/4th of their entire 53-man salary cap on the QB? That leaves 3/4s of the salary cap for the other 52 guys.
How is this sustainable? Even with this elusive "deferred money," when does the day finally come where the grim reaper raps at the door to collect?
last season running and passing. Cowboys have had one losing season in 8 years and that was the season Prescott only played 5 games. They have averaged 12 wins a season for the last 3 season. That will get you a contract like this. Crank about playoffs all you want but they get there every frigging year.
And the contract Schoen handed poor Daniel was still a stupid decision and bad contract. There were less expensive qb's to be had. Let's see how this season goes.

This year it's a forth. In two years it will be a fifth. By the time the deal ends Prescott won't be in the top ten paid.
The cap continues to expand. If the cap stayed the same you would have a point.
he’s going to have unique deals and may simply take less given he’s more marketable than that entire list combined and has way more access to outside revenue.
The most egregious to me is Love's contract. I mean the guy had what, 8 good games or so?
Also no way Dak is worth that, but its a good thing because it hamstrings Jerry J even more
I did an exercise using Goff, Jefferson, and Bosa contracts and their yearly cap hits against what Dallas had in future cap space and Dallas had plenty to build a team. There was enough cap space for Dallas to use in free agency, but since Dallas doesn't participate in free agency it wasn’t that big of a deal.
Hasn't happened in MLB yet, and no way NFL gets there first. Stanton got a $325 million contract -9- years ago and even Ohtani didn't break 3/4 of a billion

The #Cowboys and QB Dak Prescott have a deal! He gets a 4-year deal worth a record $240M(!) with $231M guaranteed, per me and @TomPelissero
.
Jerry likes to hear himself babble in news conferences

Wasn't brought in because that person wasn't available.

If the cap was not real, Justin Pugh would be an NFL player this year instead of a podcaster.
Washington has this rebuild timed out nicely.

I guess we’ll see.
Prescott got 231 guaranteed, one million more than Watson.
Rex Grossman? Sure, if you can predict the scrub that gets hot then go for it.
Team Jones is happy because now it's one less option for Schoen in 2025 if Jones capsizes this season.
Mahomes is the only player worth the money.
The rest are the results of the market.

Honestly, the worst contract on that list is Lawrence’s
I think some of it is a little overstated because it assumes great players never struggle.

If Dak got 3 years fully guaranteed, he effectively got next year's market deal today.

This is what I heard after Prescott signed his first deal. I said Jones would get signed to a similar deal.
If Jones exceeds expectations the next two seasons he will also receive a second contract. Book it.
And the contract Schoen handed poor Daniel was still a stupid decision and bad contract. There were less expensive qb's to be had. Let's see how this season goes.

No. Will continue to bring up that contract as a reminder Schoen isn’t yet thinking clearly.
Also no way Dak is worth that, but its a good thing because it hamstrings Jerry J even more

two fuck ups don't make a non-fuck-up.
this is a hilariously bad contract.
