Told me this week he thought (and indicated many others felt the same) that the Giants were soft tanking this year, they didn’t feel comfortable just coming out and saying as much; I wish he wasn’t right, but reality is this is more than likely the truth…the question is tanking for whom?

They are not tanking when they traded picks and signed Burns to a big contract. They thought they had a better team and is realizing that they stink again.

In that he is barely above a JAG, and will likely be gone before this team is competitive again. There definitely is a disconnect between moves like that and the rest of the off-season, which consisted of signing C level vets to fill the holes created by abysmal scouting and drafting. But that one move doesn’t mitigate the rest of the off-season, which looks an awful lot like a tank job. I’m sure the disconnect has something to do with the schism between ownership and the football people, but that’s too complex to get into here.
Neither is Schoen really. That's the price they were willing to pay to become GM and head coach.
Yeah exactly. He'll need to leave Jones out there until we are at near riot levels in the stands and/or locker room. "Make Daniel look good" is a big part of his job description. He cannot give up on achieving it.
Dabs is not in charge of the QB decision

Agree 100% The money should have been invested in the most important position in football and for this Team, the Offensive Line!! Could have saved us picks and still gotten a 1 year rental on another pass rusher! Also why ignore the CB position as well???
the titillation and subsequent chest-thumping that Dabs exhibited after being answered in the affirmative when he asked "So then we'll have the same quarterback room as last year?"
Who cares, we know everyone will be fired in January
The players know who is good and who isn't. They must know DJ sucks. Either Dabs earns respect in the locker room, and makes it clear that everyone not pulling their weight is going to the bench, or the players will check out on him.
up the playbook. If Jones looks bad doing it, at least people like Mara can see. Now the Jones apologists are blaming him for the poor play calling, at least go down swinging.

Couldn’t be more obvious, from the field to the front office to the presser.

And speaking as one, it really is a slqp in the face to STH.
I've never seen a QB play worse than Jones did today
He wouldn't make another team as backup playing like that.
Today goes a long way toward explaining why so many of his peers call Jones out. No one outside the Giants bubble can believe they gave Jones 160M. Whether Schoen and Daboll signed Jones or were pressured to sign Jones doesn't matter anymore. Whoever was involved with giving Jones his 2nd contract needs to be fired, unfortunately John Mara & Tim McDonnell aren't going anywhere.

True. People are comparing him to Dave Brown but he never looked this bad. Jones looks shot.
he couldnt make a simple in route throw with a guy wid eopen and no one in his face..
I know Daboll is not going say anything in the media but behind the scenes he has to be thinking about maming a change, maybe not to start vs washington but maybe by halftime..
the last 2 off-seasons realizing the upgrade wasn't there but it's over. Jones cost us any chance. the picks were all on him. yes others struggled and we gave up on running the ball but Jones can not play like that and take 100% of the snaps.

If this is true they will be sellers at the trade deadline. By then they should be clearly out of it and the tank could well be on.
Fields, Wilson, Winston, any rookie with upside - the fans would be chanting for them and there would be plenty of rumbling in the locker room. Avoiding that was a higher priority than strengthening the team. This is the Giants under John Mara
Daboll has to see that Jones is even fucking up the rudimentary
scheme he drew up, and the fans are turning on him as a result. He has to see that and maybe next week he opens it up. He's not stupid enough to put his neck on the chopping block for Jones. It's not only some of the fans need to see how bad Jones is, he needs to convince Mara too.
On the other hand, Mara is probably figuring how to push Jones down the stairs so the injury clause can kick in.
But watching other games, I just want to see a pass flying through the air far enough that I don't know what's going to happen. Give us that brief moment of anticipation that something good and slightly exciting might happen.
RE: If it were on his mind they'd have drafted a QB
I just don't understand the mindset of them having to draft any QB. This is exactly how we got in this mess to begin with. Reached for a QB in a weak QB class. This wasn't a weak QB class but all of the QBs they liked were gone. So you just ignore a guy that is an elite talent playing an important position to reach for a guy you don't like?

Drafting a bad QB is not really the problem. It's not ideal of course, but the real problem is drafting a bad QB and then refuse to move on from him after 3 years max. Then an extreeeeme problem is giving the bad QB 160 million.
In fact I say: reach for a QB round 1 every year (or every 2 years at least) until you find your guy.
but at least they tried to solve the problem by getting a QB when they needed to upgrade the position. This regime has done at least one of two things (if not both):
1) Badly mis-scouted Daniel Jones
2) Failed to bring in any realistic competition at the QB position
The Giants may very well draft a QB high in the next draft. They may also miss on that guy because we know highly rated QB bust every year. But they need to be willing to move on from mistakes quickly. The mistake Schoen and Daboll have made is simply standing around and watching Jones fail year after year with no Plan B because that is way things are done with the Giants, where QB is not a position but an identity.
This wouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't care much if Daboll got sent packing with Jones.
And therein is the problem.
Notice how the nephew was with Schoen when he was scouting?
There's your problem. Same problem we've had since 2012.

Bingo.
Average QB play could have won today.
To be fair I don't think you're considering all the bro hugs.
Burns is still pretty young and, all things considered, they acquired him pretty cheaply. Not inconsistent with a soft tank.

Haven’t you heard? The Nephew is highly respected in league circles!
I would like to know exactly what is on his mind?

He’s got a good record v Wash, but “owning” them? He averages 215 yds and 1.5 TD passes per game. In other words, his typical mediocre self.
Couldn’t be more obvious, from the field to the front office to the presser.

That they need better quarterback play and all options are on the table. Why is this guy above criticism? It’s insanity.

Those are Marino-type numbers for Jones.

They’re just suck tanking, they legit suck.
They thought they had a better team and is realizing that they stink again.
That's how it goes every year

Daboll has to know his job is on the line
If I put a play call scenario in front of this board and said,
you're losing 13-3......you have a second and five at or near the 50.
Give me your two best two plays.
No one, and I mean no one would offer two Daniel Jones runs.
Throw the ball downfield. If both passes are incomplete you pin them deep.
Jones sucks, but Dabol does to.
I suspect we'll see Lock if DJ doesn't turn it around (along w/ everyone else) next week.
Assuming Lock can go. He was the backup today but knowing this coaching staff, who knows if he was even 100%.
