The Pick-6 to Van Ginkel

lawguy9801 : 9/8/2024 4:54 pm
- It was clearly in Jones’s sight that Van Ginkel was dropping off and anticipated the quick throw and yet DJ decided to throw it anyway

- Not only that, but on the replay it looked like a DB was in the vicinity of Robinson and that he may have picked it off even if Van Ginkel didn’t

- And of course, the one-read INT thrown into triple coverage in the end zone

This is BS that HS qbs know not to do. It is fucking mind boggling that an alleged NFL-level QB would even think about those throws.

Cut this bum right now. He is barely worthy of being a third string qb.
He is a very, very, very, bad NFL quarterback

but there were 2 guys ready to intercept that, which also makes it a pretty inexcusable playcall. brian daboll got his lunch money taken today. after that play kafka should yelled at him and taken back playcalling.

The cap prevents that.
But that throw to Van Ginkel

might be the only td pass in the red zone he throws all season (unless he throws another pick 6 in the red zone this season).

Bait a him. Locke or DeVito. You put him out there the team will quit this time around. As soon as next week. The whole offense sucks but starts w Jones

Yelling screen the moment the Robinson went in motion. Failed play that should never see the light of day again.
This happens all the time on screen passes
Jerry in_DC : 9/8/2024 5:05 pm : link
You either throw it at his feet or you try to run if there is room. But that would require seeing what is happening on the field and altering the pre-snap plan
Flores was waiting for that play
dancing blue bear : 9/8/2024 5:06 pm : link
and had his unit coached up to destroy it.

watch how the entire coaching staff lines up to high five him.

There is no read there. it's catch and throw. Van Gink ran to a spot (not towards the ball) to get in the lane. Elum let him do it when he should have attacked him. That play was dead as soon as it was called. of course we need to achieve the worst possible outcome, being that's what we do.

Exactly, they’d eat an extra $30M on today’s cap. They don’t have that kind of space. It’s like the last Golladay year. Have to just let him hang out and collect his paycheck. If they were smart they’d bench him so he doesn’t trigger the injury clause and mess up next years cap.
Serious question
I Love Clams Casino : 9/8/2024 5:15 pm : link
if you were to hypothetically cut Jones tomorrow… How many teams would seriously be interested…

I honestly think there’s not another NFL team who would sign him unless their starter their back up and their third stringer got hurt… Daniel Jones is lower than the worst third stringer in the league right now

So let me get this straight. You're also blaming that play on Daboll because Jones can't read a defense? A guy in his sixth year couldn't find another play to check to?

For a bright guy, you really have an incredible imagination to find ways to get Jones off the hook...

Slum should have cut VanGinkel at the knees
JFIB : 9/8/2024 5:31 pm : link
At the line of scrimmage. That’s what tackles are taught to do on anWR screen. This is just a poorly coached team and we’re no closer to being better any time soon. Daboll’s play calling today was head scratching and for the second year in a row this team looked completely unprepared to start the season. I don’t want to hear shirt about Bill Bellichick either. Bring in Vrabel and maybe before the end of the season. Schoen hasn’t improved the team significantly in 3 years either so he’s not safe IMHO .

There is nothing wrong with calling a screen. The ultimate decider on the play is the guy with the ball in his hands.

He makes the pre-snap read and decides to run the play or not.

If you don't like the look, call a time out. If you don't like the look, spike it or throw it away.
And linebackers expect the blockers will try to do that
cosmicj : 9/8/2024 5:33 pm : link
And respond. They are paid to win, too. If Van Ginkel evades the block, it is the QBs job to read that and not throw it directly to him.
It seems like on certain plays Jones just throws it without looking
PatersonPlank : 9/8/2024 5:38 pm : link
He looks away, expecting that doing that will look off the defense, and then comes back and throws it. He did that here, and he does that on this quick slants too. Leads to lots of interception, and really is just more of Jones deciding where he is throwing before the play even starts (regardless of what the defense is doing)
I was fooled by 2022
djm : 9/8/2024 6:22 pm : link
I’m done. While I did cautiously think jones would have his best season this year I still had him on a short leash. He’s a mess.
I would give jones one more bad game
djm : 9/8/2024 6:24 pm : link
For every good game he has he buys himself that same one bad game. If the next game he plays is bad, he’s benched and never plays another game for NYG. It’s time to protect the nyg cap futures and move on. He’s had his shot.
There is no point in benching Jones
Go Terps : 9/8/2024 6:27 pm : link
There is no good option there behind him.

Ownership, management, Giants' state media, and much of the fanbase wanted this shit sandwich.

I hope he plays all 17 games. Time to open wide and eat it.

Exactly. The play design was awful because it telegraphed the play and didn’t allow for anything else aside from a backside slant perhaps (which they didn’t do).

VanGinkel was so far outside that the cut block didn’t seem like a possibility. Add in that he ran straight upfield and it was a disaster.
It was the play you knew was coming.
St. Jimmy : 9/8/2024 7:08 pm : link
The D just made a stop and they could get the game to one possession to tie the game.

If he was that far out, one of the 2 or 3 in front should have dealt with it.

Does Jones not have the ability to react to what he sees at the line? Can he audible? Throw the ball away?

In his postgame presser he talked about needing to get the ball to Robinson quickly on that play, but that play was doomed no matter how quickly he got it out there. Be a fucking quarterback and run something else for Christ sake.

a screen pass thrown at the receivers feet because he's covered?
my son is 10 years old and in little league
The Jake : 9/8/2024 8:00 pm : link
sometimes he decides that he's going to swing before the ball is even pitched and ends up swinging at really bad pitches.

that's basically what Daniel Jones does as a $40m/year professional quarterback. he walks up to the fucking line of scrimmage knowing what he is going to do in his mind. he then stares down his target. he can't react to anything the defense does in the moment.

the guy is like a brainless deer in headlights. I can't fucking stand it anymore.

He just has no feel for real time defense. he reads pre snap and decides what he is doing and can not adapt.

A lot of people do not know what theyre talking about. The idea that the 6th year QB is a victim of bad playcalls and has no free will but to run the play and throw the ball like hes a brainless robot is shockingly dumb.

The only edit I would recommend is removing shockingly. And that's because the lengths we have seen posters willing to go to defend Jones for these 5+ years.

Hey, here's an idea. If you don't like what you see from the defense, call a timeout!

Imagine that...
Most of that

is instinct / feel. DJ does not and has never had that and it was apparent in his first NFl game when the RB was open in flat for a TD and DJ froze. I swear I knew it then.

He's had 1 good half since the 2022 Playoff win. But sure what's 1 more game just to be extra super sure
