getting a top tier candidate. I don't think those guys will want this when there are better options elsewhere. They will get a young assistant or a retread desperate for a job.
If they hire either of those guys it'd be a departure from their M.O.
They don't want a head coach to be a program builder. They want a head coach to coach. They also don't hire many experienced head coaches. Ben Johnson, Bobby Slowik...these are the type they'll be looking at.
If they go the veteran route keep an eye on Mike McCarthy. They interviewed him last time, and he hasn't exhibited much interest in the GM side of things.
But I can't state this strongly enough: if firing Daboll was even slightly in the range of possible outcomes for this season they should have done it this past off-season. That would have been the strategic approach.

What did Belichick win without Brady? Granted, their QB situation sucked but yeah. And who wants to have to replace Bill with another HC a few years later because he’s so old?
He performed really well with backup quality QBs (Tyrod and Tommy) last year.. He went to playoffs the year before with an average backup quality QB. We should give him a chance to coach or at least draft his own QB.
To develop a young QB. It seems like that was not the case. He and Schoen - for whatever reasons - hitched their wagons to Jones and their careers may be much shorter because of it.
Whoever they come in next has to be someone, or bring in someone, focused on developing a young QB. This team has been languishing with bad QB play for the past decade and that has to change.
Let the next regime pick their QB, and after 2 years see where they are. If it was the wrong guy, let them try again. If they miss a second time, it’s time to move on. What can’t happen is falling in love with a prospect and letting him fail in slow motion.
McDaniels at OC. Vrabel at DC. Probably not on Vrabs but I have no doubt BB will get an elite DC.
Top 3 pick is definitely achievable. Should have their pick of the litter at QB.

They know they'd have to deal with the Maras.
lol, sadly that’s probably true. I don’t see any young coordinators coming here. Not the coveted ones. Too much turmoil and no QB.

But Mara will probably hire Belichick and it will implode in his face. As usual.
