I can't believe it's September 8th and I'm making a big picture post about a proper rebuild, but here we are again. Going back to 2013:
2013: Force Gilbride out and force McAdoo on Coughlin.
2015: Force Coughlin out and McAdoo inherits a lot of Coughlin's staff.
2017: Fire Reese & McAdoo and bring back Gettleman to win with Eli.
2020: Hire Judge, but retain Gettleman.
2022: Hire Schoen & Daboll, but keep Jones & Barkley.
2023: Pay Jones
Nothing ever feels truly aligned. Schoen & Daboll chose Jones but he's a leftover from the prior regime.
This franchise needs a 2004 level reset with HC & QB brought in at the same time. Accorsi was the established GM at the time, but NYG probably doesn't even have that now.
GM+HC+QB - I hate them I'm already thinking this, but this franchise probably needs a hard reset again.
I hope I'm wrong. I hope they go 10-6 the rest of the way and make the playoffs. I really do. But, I think we are headed towards another season of discussing whether people will be fired or not.
WRs and TEs matures
Sprinkle in some more defensive players.
And go from there
I don't see a plan. From what I saw on Hard Knocks, it seems like they are winging it.
Or if our "brain" trust recognized that it was a total fluke and responded accordingly. But it was not to be...and here we are.
Dexter is a stud. He deserves to be traded.
As fans there is little we can do. Hopefully at minimum it puts a stop to the appeals to authority on BBI. The people running the Giants are clueless, and arguments to the contrary are equally clueless.
[quote] Just murdered the franchise. The whole thing would have made sense if we just went 4-13 and drafted a QB. We'd be right on track.

They have often made the same decisions fans would make. They either punt, half measure, or screw up the crucial decisions.

Because a fan is everyone’s boss.

I don’t sense urgency from Schoen which would be ok if I saw patience paying dividends into a nice roster coming together. I don’t see that either.
And that's why fans have no say in roster decisions, thankfully.
Not quite.
Stafford was part of the first rebuild and that didn't lead them to where they are now.
When they traded Stafford, hired Dan Campbell - that's the true rebuild.
i dont understand why people feel the need to make excuses for the obvious - if they dont get the job done it's because they werent good enough. it's that simple. there is no need to overcomplicate.
this doesnt keep happening for no reason, it's because most first time head coaches fail. its not because they didnt check whatever boxes constitute a "truer" rebuild.
"We'll looks for wins while we re-tool"...
He always wants to give some sort of hope for every season so fans come to the games.
2 - When people are talking about a "rebuild" they are talking about having a strategic vision both in timeline and in identity. Not just aimlessly acquiring and removing players.
Have the Giants ever had a vision for the timeline? Or are they just trying be in playoff contention next season? Why did they get Brian Burns?
Do the Giants have a vision for the kind of team they want to be? Maybe on D with an emphasis on pass rush. What is the O? A bunch of fast WRs with a QB who can't throw past 10 yards?
It's hard to tell what the vision is. To get us to being a real top team. I just don't know. Certainly the whole picture is muddied by the prioritizing the personal achievements of Daniel over having a good football team. But the big picture has never made much sense to me - dating back a long time now.
It all started when the Giants rushed to hire MacAdoo as head coach because of what he did with Eli, not because of his overall qualifications to lead the team. Literally the only objective, cold-blooded move this organization has made with regards to QB in the past 10 years is declining Jones's 5th year option and signing Tyrod, and the football gods rewarded them with a good season.
It might have been better to keep Coughlin - and I know this ruffles feathers - but he fully earned his firing however in 2015. The game management was bad, capped off by him not going for it several times in Eagles territory in the season finale with nothing to lose.
But I'm more aggressive anyway and always felt that everything - Coughlin, Reese, Eli - should've been blown up after the 2013 season. The SB masked that they had been a borderline .500 team since 2009.
Mara's biggest mistake to date imv because you had a future HOF HC/QB tandem and there were enough years to correct course and build a team for another run.
It would have had to have happened after 2013 though imv. Ideally 2012 but Mara didn't have the balls for it and I doubt he recognized the destruction of the lines that would follow.
