It's important to note the player we saw at QB for the Giants today is the same guy he's been since he was drafted. This wasn't because of his injuries, or he's been David Carr'd.
He was never good. The people saying otherwise were living in denial.
RE: RE: We can all argue about whatever Jones was or may have become
But there is no arguing it became very obvious by the Seattle game last year that this guy is done here. And that was with just his play on the field.
All that happened after that was a 2nd neck injury and a torn ACL and yet Schoen and Daboll pretty much sat on their hands.
Disgraceful.
I think it's going to cost them their jobs.
Yep. I was just looking at the schedule. Given what I saw today it may be possible for NYG to steal one of the next two games, but other than that, I think we’re looking at 1-7 or 0-8 by Halloween. Once the media turns it’s over, and that will be here before you know it.
Also, last year they were able to stave off the negativity a little bit with, what seems like now in hindsight, nothing more than DeVito catching some lightning in a bottle and the Pats and Commanders sucking more than us.

He was good in 3 games. First start vs Bucs. Playoff clinch vs Indy and wild card in Minnesota. Today was fucking brutal.

Not even worth having this debate, but whether it was his legs at times or during his rookie year under Shurmur, Jones showed glimpses of being a better player than this.
His confidence is shot. He doesn’t even look as athletic when he’s on the run which is something you used to be able to at least count on. Something happened on the first 6 games of last season that broke him for good.

was definitely overdrafted. I thought he was a second round player. Teams have long since learned that he can't process quickly enough to be an effective pocket QB. They don't really care about his running, which is likely limited right now because of his ACL tear. His inability to hurt teams regularly from the pocket is also one reason we can't run. Teams crowd the LOS to stop the run because they don't fear Jones as a passer. He's also now shellshocked IMO from the neck injuries and the concussion.
Jones is any good any more. That door just slammed shut.
Now what about Davoll? I think he sucks also. Team unprepared. No fight. All preseason and somehow Daboll thought Jones was ready to start? The HC guru thought Jones was ready for the season. Get him out of here also, Schoen for that matter also
The history of the NFL is filled with backup level players that have put together a few good games.
He wasn't good his rookie year. He wasn't good in 2022. It was all a lot of wishful thinking and denial.
And now we're stuck eating this shit for this year at least. Even if they bench him we're still suffering because no decent backup was brought in our of fear of threatening Daniel.
John Mara needs to wake up, acknowledge his poor understanding of the game, and bring in a professional to run the whole football operation. That has been THE central need since about 2013.
The OL actually played well. They provided a clean pocket for the first half and the running game looked OK in the first half. In the second half, the Viking D didn't have to worry about the run and could just get after the QB. It wasn't like they were in the backfield every play.

Come on, he looked okay-middling, but not like this.
This was a disaster.

Okay-middling is not good. Okay-middling is not worth $40 million.
The sample size with Daniel Jones is more than sufficient to see who he is. The most infuriating thing about this team, ownership, leadership, everyone… is that they think doing the same thing over and over is going to lead to different results. I think that’s the definition of insanity.
take that Schoen did nothing to address the QB situation in the offseason. They were serious about moving up to #3 to get Maye, and New England happened to be more serious about staying put. Jones was always going to be on the roster this season. It's unclear just what exactly he was supposed to do that he didn't.

And the second half comeback vs AZ last year. 3 1/2. LOL
Daniel Jones sucks. Daniel Jones was thoroughly outplayed by DeVito (who basically had NO preseason first-team snaps) and Taylor. Both of whom stink. Signing Drew Lock is not upgrading the position. We rebuilt 3/5 of the OL in the offseason. Bring in some real competition. Let DeVito play to scout him. Something. Anything. But it’s the one position on this team that seems sacred - why?
I realize Daniel Jones was going to be on the roster in 2024. The shitty contract that we gave him dictated that. But the sooner we accept that he’s a dead man walking, the better. Instead, we roll it back with him and tank another season. It’s ridiculous at this point. He is what he is, and everyone can see it.

Because he did do nothing. He *tried* to do something, he had discussions about doing something with another GM, but... well, I guess he made phone calls and maybe that counts as doing something?

He's not a good QB but that's bullshit. He has clearly, VERY clearly regressed. Even if you completely disregard his rookie season he has almost never been THIS bad. He used to not throw TDs and be conservative but wouldn't throw picks and would make some throws. He made no throws and threw two picks this game. In the end it doesn't matter though if he got ruined, regressed, or always sucked. He's this right now. Which is not an NFL caliber starter.

Well he only regressed in the sense that he went from borderline unplayable to plain obviously unplayable.

This is what he has always been. The only difference now is everyone has a ton of film on him.
All the issues that exist now existed at Duke. You can go back and read the reports and watch the videos. It's all documented.

Ineffective but not unplayable vs unplayable at year 6 is unacceptable.
