I think we're in agreement Jones isnt that dude.

Blackmax00 : 9/8/2024 11:00 pm
But does he get another nfl opportunity after this year? Is he practice squad material? Backup or just damaged goods? I mean Darnold, who stunk most of his career lit us up. Even Zach Wilson looked good in preseason with Denver. Could DJ be rebuilt unto anything or is it too late?

I am a bona fide Daniel Jones hater, but I've always thought he'd be a good backup and land an occasional seat warming starting spot for teams with rookie QBs.

But if this is his level now? I'm not sure this is even low end backup caliber. And teams usually want developmental guys at #3.

He’s made, what, over $100m in his playing career. The vast majority of people in the worlds don’t sniff a fraction of that kind of wealth. He should retire and he won’t have to work another day in his life before he is 30.

He got a lot of mileage out of one playoff victory. Good for his crew in getting the Giants to bid against themselves.
Dave Brown hung on for a few years as a backup with the Cardinals
Greg from LI : 9/8/2024 11:14 pm : link
Jones could do the same somewhere. There are a lot of terrible backup QBs out there.

I just think he has PTSD and if so he is done. He looked nothing like he did in 2022.
Jones did not show any sign of rust
averagejoe : 9/8/2024 11:40 pm : link
he was just as bad as he always was. For the same reasons. He is a big dummy with zero instincts or pocket presence. He cannot execute Dabolls offense and Daboll can no longer coach around Jones glaring weaknesses .

And JS gave him 80M and has not drafted a QB in 3 years.

Genius

He has been an awful waste...
thrunthrublue : 9/8/2024 11:44 pm : link
...no more than a pitch out ever since DG conned JM and ST to draft him first. The duke fluke.....is cooked. and so are the giants till at least 2027. Book it.

He went to Duke
Blueworm : 9/8/2024 11:47 pm : link
And I've said before that he could probably make a great coach, but just not the rapid-fire decisions he Ned's to make as QB.

But Duke = other options too.
The fact that not only did Daboll leave Jones in,
BuryMeInBlue : 9/8/2024 11:49 pm : link
But that he is seemingly willing to overlook Jones’ performance today and reward him with another start is nothing short of a travesty.

Did we learn anything from today's fiasco ?

It wasn't that long (almost like yesterday) that many here pinned for J.J.McCarthy to be drafted by the Giants. Minny pick him #1 because they felt the same kind of desperation. Their back - up was Jets/Panthers/49er throw-away Sam Darnold.

All-of-a-sudden he looked unbeatable against the Giants, he might as well been sitting in a rocking chair(he had so much time), throwing the ball to Jefferson, Addison etc. Oh yeah, by-the-way, he had a darned good RB (Aaron Jones) to keep the Giant's defense honest. Is he really that good, or are the Giants that bad ??

Conclusions -

1. Yes, Jones is shell shocked (looks like a reprised version of PTSD David Carr). Can Tommy look any worse ??

2. Our O-line problem is NOT solved. (Our Giants nation turns it's weary eyes toward you, Evan Neal, wake up !)

3. We just gave Brian Burns a ton of money, he didn't look the part today

4. Saquon's run off with another woman; the RB Committee needs a better lead, Singeltary is a JAG. Time to give the kid (Ty Tracy) a real shot.

5. Is Turbo Miller still around (to return kicks & punts)

It's really bad
JohnF : 9/9/2024 12:43 am : link
when a Head Coach can't pull a player for poor performance during a game. If Daniel Jones ego is that fragile, he shouldn't be playing professional football.

And yeah, I think that was going through Daboll's head. If he pulled Jones, DJ would self destruct. Leaving him out there was just cruel, though.
It is not hyperbole to say there are better backup QBs than him around
moespree : 9/9/2024 1:23 am : link
A lot of them actually. Giants lost to one of them today.

I really don't think he is even good enough to be a backup in most places. He might catch on somewhere but he doesn't have much time left in the league.
At what point since 8th grade was he ever good enough?
markky : 9/9/2024 5:12 am : link
He wasn’t good enough in high school to get a scholarship to a football school. Walk on at Duke. Didn’t light it up in college. Over drafted. Stinks in the NFL.

He was not a top high school QB. He was not a top college QB.

He will never be a top NFL QB.

He should never play another down.
Take the Money and Run
varco : 9/9/2024 6:37 am : link
Daniel Jones has made enough money to provide for himself and his decedents for many generations to come. Just Leave / Retire.

To me, it just looks like Daboll was ordered to play Jones, no matter what...and is going through the motions. If that's the case, he should just pack it in as well.

In my estimation, the current ownership has a sick franchise on their hands and should consider cashing out, while the value is still there. Go into something they may be good at, like art collecting.
I have definitely been
mfjmfj : 9/9/2024 6:53 am : link
in the DJFC for the most part over the last 5 years. He is broken. Can't pull the trigger. He is not nearly as good as he was in his rookie year or 2022. Shoot he looked worse today than he did against Seattle last year, which I would have called his worst game ever. Would not want him as a backup.

Bench him now and start Lock.

Darnold right now has the keys and more weapons than he's ever had. He fell backwards into a chance to revive his career and credit to him for stepping up.
I've never liked him
logman : 9/9/2024 8:03 am : link
but I've thought he could have had a chance at something if he had a new start somewhere else. I don't think that's even on the table for him anymore. Maybe as a backup to a team with a rookie QB somewhere, but that's about it.

Yes David Carr 2.0 totally agree. He’s done.
Also agree with last two points.

Time for giants to move on from Jones. I was patient and hopeful but he’s toast.
I

have spent the last few months arguing that although Jones will never be a franchise QB, that he can be an effective journeyman backup or even a “bridge starter” for a team that needs a year or two to find a franchise QB.

I am now seriously rethinking the position. Jones may well be done as an NFL QB. His success has been intermittent at best, and the entire league knows that he doesn’t process quickly enough to be able to really threat anyone as a passer. He can’t go through more than one or two reads. He is also not an anticipation thrower. The windows in the NFL are too small for him.

His only attribute is his legs, and even his running may now be limited by his torn ACL. That running also puts him at greater risk of suffering another concussion or neck injury.

A competent backup or game manager should be able to win with our offense, especially our OL and WRs. The fact that Jones apparently cannot means he may not even be that good, and therefore not a QB that any team would want on its roster.
