Why do the Giants feel like they're playing a diff sport?

MookGiants : 9/8/2024 11:43 pm
This is the main takeaway I have watching the Giants since 2017. It feels like they're playing a totally different sport than the rest of the league. You watch other games and it feels like whenever a team needs a score, theres a high probability they will go down and get it. It feels like if you gave the Giants 4 quarters to score a touchdown it would still be like pulling teeth for them to actually get it done.

It's been a decade since I felt like if the Giants absolutely needed a score, they would get it.

For instance watching the Lions game tonight. I had zero doubt they would go down and get a field goal or touchdown to tie it, and was very confident they would get a touchdown to win it in overtime.

The New York Football Giants feel like they're playing a different game than every other team besides the Panthers.

Anyone who actually thinks Daniel Jones is capable of doing anything at a high level needs their head examined.

No matter how easy offense looks for other teams year after year, every year it seems like it gets more difficult for the Giants to score

I've had similar thoughts.

Other teams play exciting football. They make big plays. Their playmakers, well, make plays. Quarterbacks throw perfect deep balls. Receivers make dazzling catches. DBs make interceptions and run them back. Running backs break free and flip field position.

The Giants occasionally get a first down between penalties and punts.

I'm exhausted, not so much from the losing but from how the Giants don't seem to field an NFL team. For years at a time. They look like UAlbany playing Georgia.
Watching the Giants

try and score is like a root canal. It takes them 10 plays to go 52 yards and they pray Gano makes a 52 yarder.
Many of my friends that follow football say the same thing about them
NY-Fan : 9/9/2024 12:03 am : link
They watch them play and say that they look like they don't know what they are doing. They say they look dysfunctional or look like they don't belong on the field. A lot of them really follow the draft and can't figure out why players the Giants draft that they thought were good players never turn out to be even decent players. They are just as confused about them as we are.

The one common thing they have all said for the past few years is they don't think Jones is a good QB.
I think what's sadder is that the state of the league is so fucking
BestFeature : 9/9/2024 12:36 am : link
bad that it's not as much of a case as it should be. There are three great QBs in the league and a few guys on Dak Prescott's level. That's it everything else is shit. Deshaun Watson fucking sucks and he was supposed to be the next great thing.
1st downs are touchdowns for us

Yep. Watch any YouTube Giants "highlight" package from the past 7 or 8 years and their first TD will be somewhere late in the third of one game and then the next TD will be 2 games later in garbage time.

I'd be surprised if they won 2 games this year. Just put your pumpkin coins against them, it's easy coin.
Now imagine what the NFL would look like
Jerry in_DC : 9/9/2024 7:00 am : link
If all the starting QBs disappeared. It would look a lot different. It would be a lot lower scoring. Teams wouldn't get late game scores as often.

And that is what we are dealing with. The Giants have been 100%committed to starting a backup caliber QB. There is a lot of other stuff we can say about the team. But that's the foundation. In roster construction we are playing from so far behind that it is impossible to compete.
It's very true Mook and I have the same thoughts.
mittenedman : 9/9/2024 7:11 am : link
I watched a ton of football over the weekend. College and pro. The Giants look slow, unorganized and flat-out unaggressive in everything they do. They don't try to attack. They don't try to entertain. They just shit themselves.

I really don't even care about the team anymore beyond tradition and muscle memory. I hate how this team plays.
Totally agree Mook
Koldegaard : 9/9/2024 7:17 am : link
One thing I don't understand.

Why not give Lock an opportunity in the 4th quarter? They could just say DJ had a sore neck or whatever.

I really hope Lock plays next week, if (when) DJ plays poorly again.

Maybe, just maybe Lock or DeVito could provide a spark.
Because Jones sucks
nygiants16 : 9/9/2024 7:25 am : link
it is really that simple, he makes everything harder, Daboll could call the perfect play and Jones would make it difficult..

People can keep blaming everyone else but the coach and the talent looks comlletely different with just a ckmpetent QB

Jones sucks, but the entire offense from the strategy on down is terrible. Look at them come out in the heavy formations and not get any run yards. They have no idea who/how to block, they don't create running lanes. None of their guys do the little things beyond the X's and O's to make plays work. They are just poorly coached, all the way around.
Awful QB play for a majority of those years.
BlueHurricane : 9/9/2024 7:36 am : link
Plain and simple.

It can no longer be argued. Jones is shot.

My hot take? On short to intermediate plays, Jones is too dumb and inaccurate to hit players in stride, he only sees them when they are done with their routes and are standing still. He is the one that is making the offensive plays look horrible.

And he is physically incapable of consistently throwing downfield. His arm strength is mediocre and he’s inaccurate, a bad mix.
One thing I noticed
JT039 : 9/9/2024 7:41 am : link
Is how fast and aggressive other teams are both offensively and defensively. I don’t see that with this team or any team we have had for a long time.

Seems like we have all choir boys outside Dex. I mean yesterday I saw Jordan Phillips wallop guys left and right for the cowboys and he couldn’t even make our team?🤷‍♂️

Ok again anything they do is going to look bad because of Jones, if they had the same gameplan eith a competent QB are we complaining about Daboll? no

Perfect example is the Jets, they look like a hot mess with Wilson and Hackett, if tonight Rodgers throws 3 tds and the kffense is humming, does that mean Hackett all of sudden called a good game?
I think that there
Dnew15 : 9/9/2024 7:58 am : link
have been stretches where I felt like the defense was super good and NFL caliber.

I haven't felt that way for 10 years about the offense.

There's a 10 year streak where the offense was Odell or Saquon...and that's it.

Yesterday's offense was painful to watch. They were a hopeless, helpless unit.
THIS is what kills me
GoDeep13 : 9/9/2024 8:44 am : link
It's not just that we suck. We are CONSIDERABLY worse that bad. We look outmatched from kick-off too final whistle. What do we even practice? What do our coaches even coach? What are we TRYING to make our identity? This team never seems to have ANY direction.
Fantastic post...
IchabodGiant : 9/9/2024 10:02 am : link
couldn't quite put my finger on it, watching the Giants, and then other teams/games. This is a perfect perspective. It's like the Giants are in the stone age of football.
It all starts with a competent QB!
Simms11 : 9/9/2024 10:20 am : link
Even Sam Howell looked competent last year!
I was thinking about this on our drive home from the game yesterday
bigbluehoya : 9/9/2024 10:32 am : link
The only conclusion that I can draw is that it's Jones.

It seems like everything that he does is reactive and extremely late. No natural progression in his reads, and even when he selects the right target, the throw is a full second too late. Zero anticipation.

I haven't re-watched any of yesterday on TV (and I likely won't because I like myself too much to endure it), but this really jumped out to me in person yesterday in a way that seemed far more severe than prior performances I have watched on TV.

Yep and he looks much slower than ever on the move
