Ben Johnson could be the silver lining…

shocktheworld : 9/9/2024 1:29 am
Look, we are a beaten down fanbase…. I thought we were finally pulling out of the mire in 2022, but the wheels of the Schoen/Dabs wagon are falling off fast.

I was in complete agreement when Mara went outside his usual lines to hire the current GM/HC tandem. Schoen seemed like he was the change we needed up top and he brought a league wide respected offensive guru with him in Dabs. Check and check, except Schoen has been very poor at drafting (our best players were Getts picks in AT and Dex) and signed DJ to “the contract” while letting Saquon dip for the Eagles. (Not saying I disagreed with either at the time those decisions were made. I was for both outcomes, to be fair)

Dabs took over play calling to only call the weirdest BS game I’ve seen from his Offense yet. It was simply, offensive, and in the stinky shit way.

He seems tense and pissy in front of the media, and frankly we’ve taken a major step back from 2022 play with a much better cast of characters… I can’t fucking believe I’m typing this but I think Dabs might be gone if this continues. Schoen too.

If we suck all year, we will be in position to take a top QB next draft.
Are you letting Schoen and Dabs pick that player? Schoen has not drafted well and whiffed on a #7 premium pick… Thibs has not played like a top 5 pick either. Add your various other whiffs (Ezudu, Flott, maybe Hyatt and JMS unfortunately )and I have zero faith in Joe picking the “right” player.

There are no slam dunks talents currently this year, so even more important to have a sound leader making the QB decision.

I’m not sure which GM would “fit” best with Ben Johnson, but I sure love the way he coaches that Lions offense. He turned down several HC jobs this past year, saying he wanted to “finish” what he started with the Lions.

If he is open to coming to NYG (back channel peeps can find that info at the appropriate time), I would say it’s best to wish Dabs and Schoen the best.

If we are picking high again next draft (which means a shit eating season for 2024) we simply cannot let the current brain trust handle that next QB pick.

I know this is frustration leaking out, but I feel no emotion writing these things. We’re stuck in a cycle of suck that seems never ending…. What a mess

IF and a big if Daboll is fired, Mara won’t bring in a 3rd rookie head coach in a row regardless of who he is. In my humble opinion he would want someone who has head coached at the NFL level with success.
What is Ben Johnson going to do?

Ben Johnson is what Daboll was when he was available. He's what Shurmur was.

People love ripping McCarthy, he's got the same resume as Sean Payton. I could see McCarthy. I could see Belichick. I could see Vrabel. Not a rookie HC.

Sweet Jesus, stop with Belichick. Even if he didn't do such a horrendous job in his final few years in NE, including driving Brady away(and that should be a HUGE RED FLAG) he is in his 70s.
The last 4 HC picks

Were 1st time HC. If Mara fires the current “brain trust” there is no way he hires another hot assistant coach.

Also, the past four choices were offensive coordinators. So I bet Mara goes with a defensive coach. Who does that leave?

I agree BB is too old to start over.

Vrabel probably would be #1 on the list. If Flores wasn’t suing the Giants he’d probably be #2 on the list. I’m not sure who would be #3.
I honestly don’t think Johnson would want
eric2425ny : 9/9/2024 7:19 am : link
to come here. He pulled himself out of consideration for the Seahawks and Commanders HC jobs in what looked like opportunities to get either job.

What is enticing here? Have to take off our blue colored lenses and see this team for what it is. Only a few recognizable names, no QB, and an ownership that appears to be meddlesome with certain players to the detriment of the organization. We’ve also become a revolving door for coaches.

It's Vrabel vs the field. We already have his defensive coordinator and GM in the building.
Switchuing coaches every two years

has worked so well for us.
WTF do you think Johnson...
bw in dc : 9/9/2024 9:45 am : link
is going to do with this limited, veteran QB in his sixth year that Daboll hasn't thought about?

The magic Daboll did in 2022 was not sustainable. Some of us saw it. Others chose to live in the Land of Make Believe.

Which is what worries me. We’re aspiring to be the fucking Titans?
Call Belichick today
arniefez : 9/9/2024 10:06 am : link
Fire Daboll and Schoen next Monday. Hire Belichick make Tim McDonnell the GM and decide who to keep and cut when the season is over. Make Jones the 3rd QB and inactive every week to make sure he doesn't get hurt.

I get what I just typed is an insane fan rant and completely unrealistic. But after yesterday it's fair to be an insane fan and to rant.

On a first time head coach. We need someone with experience all 3 phases of the team.

Not to mention, there is absolutely ZERO chance Belichick wants to come here. He wants Shula’s record, and he wants another SB or 2. Anyone with a brain can see what barriers to success the Mara’s are. Bill’s admiration for Wellington doesn’t mean he shares that with Wellington’s kids.

Say, I wouldn't mind having a head coach who's particularly adept at driving his QB away.
