Thibs at 5,Neal, Flott, Trading up for Banks and Hyatt, Ezeudu, Glowinski, trading a second for Burns. Too many wasted opportunities to improve the team. You can't give him another draft and another off season.
And it still blows 3 years in. The record by season’s end will reflect as much. Things are getting worse, not better. I’m on board with cleaning house after this season should Mara decide to go that route. And, full disclosure, I wanted these guys to be “the guys” here…
Flott is what he is a slot corner, he was that when he was drafted and has done that ever since coming to the Giants..
He missed on Neal..
How we calling Banks a miss? he followed Jefferson around yesterday and he had 4 catches for 59 yards and a td how is that a bad game?
Thibodeaux and Banks are average players. 5 is like a magician. He is invisible a lot. And I’m planting that flag: banks isn’t a #1 cb. That’ll be more evident as this season plays out. If I’m wrong, I’ll own it.

no you wont hahaha and its ok, but you arent going to own anything
He’s smart to not have drafted a qb yet. He needs one good enough to raise a team from mediocre to good. But he hasn’t gotten his team up to mediocre yet.
Look at this team from a 10,000 foot view: does it look like there's a well-laid out plan between player acquisition and what they're doing on the field?
What does this team do well? What are they trying to do well?
I honestly have no idea. I see no plan, no progress towards anything. Just a random collection of players doing random things.

Good post. Aside from fast WRs who specialize in YAC, I can’t tell you what they look for. We gave out big contracts to guy who are get injured a lot, so the “dependable” in smart, tough, dependable seems more like a cliche.
is very much the same way I feel about the end of Reece's tenure. There is rhyme and reason to what they are doing. I get the logic in the moves that he made. They just aren't working out....
Hindsight is 20/20 but everyone had Neal and Thibs going where they went. No one was saying "those are real reaches by the NYG". The move to get Burns made a ton of sense. Moving on from SB - totally get the rationale behind the decision. All of it - I get...except for one position - I can't help but think that maybe there were influences beyond their control when it came to that spot. Everything else they do makes too much sense.
He is young and eager and seems like a bright guy. He looks the part. But he is not very good at his job. He used the 5 and 7 picks for an average ER and and awful RT. He has not drafted a QB. He has had to devote cap space to replace all his failed OL picks. The giants have top ten picks every year and never improve. Naming DJ the starter after 6 horrendous starts last year and passing on a QB insured another losing season. Bottom line is after 3 years Giants are still a bottom three team, still have no QB, and the fanbase has no hope.
made more than enough mistakes to justify firing him if the players he brought in don't improve by the end of the year.
His trade for Waller was also a mistake.
As someone said, he looks like he's flailing around without a coherent plan about how to build a team. This team spends a ton of resources on problems that never get fixed. That is the definition of organizational failure in any business.
EVERYONE was on board with every single one of those decisions/draftpicks.
Thibs, Neal, Schmidt, Banks, Hyatt, etc....even Glow... were ALL considered major upgrades over what we had at the time. And when I mean everyone, I mean scouts, player development people, coaches, GMs, and pundits. We all did backflips on the board for every one of them.
So if you want to call them out as busts, go ahead. But no one panned the moves at the time they were made.
So what's the common denominator? Coaching and scheme.

So the GM is just supposed to do what the consensus fan thinks? No, the GM is supposed to be smart and find the right players. If all he has to do is make the consensus move according to the media and fans, why have a GM at all?

It’s not one game for Thibs, it’s 32. He played almost the entire game and didn’t get a single tackle. That is embarrassing, I don’t remember seeing Ojulari on the field, but somehow even he had a tackle.
I’m not giving up on Burns yet, but the one thing about the trade I didn’t like was his pressure rates are really low. I held out hope that was due to being a good player on an awful team who drew most of the OL’s attention. Well now he has Dex who draws the most attention, so let’s hope he looks better over the next few weeks.
I agree with you on Banks, but Minny did take the air out of the ball after the pick 6, they knew we couldn’t score.
re why they took Thibs at 5 and Neal at 7 was because they didnt care between Neal/Ekwonu and they knew they'd get one. I dont think that's generally how good GMs pick unless the players are truly all blue chip, which as it turns out none were.

it's always coaching and scheme even when it's also a talent issue. Start with the HC first. Always.

Also, John, Chris, and Tim all need to go. Let another Mara man the C suite.

They sure did. They traded up one spot.
It’s up to the GM to make the right call he’s got all the info we don’t.
Joe must go .
That is on Schoen plain and simple. No reason to over analyze it.

Who would that be? What would that look like? Who would hire that? What powers might they have that a GM doesn't?
