up until yesterday, that something may have happened behind the scenes with a few players. It is almost Little Bill like discipline where nothing is reported but a guy suddenly counted on doesn't even see the field. **speculation of course but the oddity of it all does bring that into question.
How does Simmons go from being a versatile weapon to not being used? Phillips from an expected Slot/NB to Flott getting time there and then HYATT basically being a decoy at best?
I realize he is playing in the most physically demanding spot where he gets double-teamed and whammed from all angles, but they can't have their best player missing one-third of the game, unless the Giants are telling us he doesn't have the stamina to go beyond 67%? Or did they remove him from a lost cause in the 4th quarter to preserve his body for a 17-game schedule?

This is all I can think of to explain it. Disciplinary.
The Giants defense played with only 2 big men** on any given play. Among their many woes, the Giants are also playing too light in the pants and are getting pushed around.
Jones is getting a lot of heat justifiably- but the coaching staff sucked just as bad yesterday.
Daboll is dead man walking.
That said, Hyatt dropped the one target he had. Didnt help himself.
Flott plays exclusively on the outside all camp with underwhelming results, gets hurt and then plays in the slot?
In addition...Simmons and McFadden? What did I miss?

Flott played in the slot all last year. Obviously the coaching staff is not comfortable with Phillips yet
The Giants defense played with 5 DBs** on any given play. Still, Darnold carved us our secondary with a big assist from a non-existent pass rush.
**4.84 to be exact.
The Giants played with an average of 2.6 wide receivers on any given play.
