really appreciate the effort he makes. Clearly a good scout. But Jones has also regressed from what he was. If you read Sy's game review from 2019, his first game, he was glowing about Jones' potential, his decision making, his veteran-like presence.
Quote:
Daniel Jones: 23/36 – 336 yards – 2 TD / 4 att – 28 yards – 2 TD. Jones also lost two fumbles in this one. Well, what can we say? The first start of Jones’ career was as memorable as any first-start of any Giants QB in the history of the franchise. I can’t say this performance surprised me. Why? Jones showed a certain level of poise and natural decision making during preseason. Add this to the list of reasons why I think preseason games are not only important, but vital. From the minute the game started all the way to the Giants game-winning touchdown, Jones had the look of someone that has been there, someone that can handle anything thrown at him, someone that has the ideal match of tools and intangibles. His throws were accurate, his runs were athletic, his hesitations were minimal. Giants fans it won’t take much more, other than time, to fully convince me that NYG has their guy. By guy, I mean their next QB for a decade-plus. Now, hold onto that football. More on that later.
How can a player that looked like such a natural early in his career, and was really hampered then more so by lack of talent, regress so much to what we saw last year and yesterday. He looked like a different player. Robotic, slow, panicky. I hate to overreact to one game, but he is a different player, and it is not physical, it is completely mental. https://www.bigblueinteractive.com/2019/09/23/game-review-new-york-giants-32-tampa-bay-buccaneers-31 - ( New Window )
The guy we saw yesterday is the guy he has always been. The only difference between this Jones and 2019 Jones is that everyone in the league also knows what he is and can plan accordingly.
Schoen and Daboll saw fit to pay him up to $160M. They also saw fit to back him up with Lock and DeVito. Schoen and Daboll should not be trusted with the next big QB decision.
PFF's Draft Profile of Jones is an interesting watch...
So he would make beautiful throws unaware of the pressure bearing down on him. This would eventually make him a sack/fumble machine. Now he is skittish and makes bad throws and interceptions. Doesn't help that can't read NFL level defenses either.

I will disagree with this slightly. There is a piece that has changed and it is VERY much the nail in the coffin. There is NO way that DaBoll hasn't seen this as well. I will mention it tonight- trying to give detail to it but the rest of what you wrote at this point is not disputed.. Whatever hopes were there going into this season went into ICU in Houston and then died on the table yesterday..
Has never looked like a natural. He’s never looked comfortable back there even at duke. He should’ve never been picked where he was and resigning him is any even worse mistake. I have no faith in Schoen to turn this around.
Just an FYI if you look under " Team Building " above

JVM,
It wasn’t hard to see what you are referring to….the many short armed throws into the dirt and low trajectory passes that were completed. This also involved throws when he had time. Simple reason—either he’s scared and/or the throwing mechanics are now altered. This would both be because of the injuries. At least, that’s what I think you are referring to as Jones was not always this way and threw a beautiful ball when he had time to throw. He had time to throw a bunch of times yesterday, and the passes all came out low and short. That’s a new and huge problem.
Despite what he wrote about Jones, he still had him highly rated.

* Some great throws, but inconsistent accuracy wise.
* Quick game accuracy isn't always there
* Can make plays under pressure, but also makes bad decisions and turnover worthy plays when defenders bear down on him.
They saw him as a 3rd round player that was overrated as a top 15 player.
