Evan Neal

Hilary : 9/9/2024 10:39 am
The Giants need to give Neal playing time at right guard.
Van Roten is on a 1 year contract they need to see if they need a new guard for next year
Neal is a good run blocker. The passing game will not improve no matter who is QB if the defense can control the run game with four players and drop 7
The guy played hurt two years in a row and was mis diagnosed by the medical staff who said he had an ankle sprain when he had a fracture. We know he will never be an all pro tackle- give the player a chance to show he can be a good guard.

he's either a tackle or bust, trying to move him to guard is a waste of a roster spot because they shouldn't be used to teach a top 10 draft pick a new position three years after drafting him.

Hasn’t had many snaps at Guard this offseason. Unless Van Roten is unplayable or has an injury the Giants won’t rush Neal.
You don't just "give him playing time"
Matt M. : 9/9/2024 10:49 am : link
He has not practiced at OG at the pro level. He's not going to appear at RG any time soon...probably not at all this season unless there was a dire emergency. Even then, he is more likely to be at RT and someone else at OG.
I also disagree that the running game was controlled

Singletary was decent in the first half. He was averaging 4 YPC. Not great, but serviceable.

Flowers was a good G. Becton sure looked good at G Friday night. We do need to see if Neal can play RG for a decent sample size this season to determine if he can play there next year or if he will be cut. If that’s not in the plans then cut him now
I saw Neal the whole game standing on sideline
Rich_Houston_1971 : 9/9/2024 11:00 am : link
walking around and doing skip exercises. He was not engaged in thegame at all and not one other player apporached him in conversation. he also was isolated on the extreme left side of sideline the whole game. His time in NY is done. He is a bust. Also Hyatt is a bust, and KT is a bust.
100% Agree!! Check Out Bust Mekhi Becton With Eagles
geelabee : 9/9/2024 11:08 am : link
High draft pick like Neal that is now playing well moving to guard and don't be surprise if he makes the pro bowl there...Giants now have a long term answer at RT..just admit that Neal is a BUST at right tackle and move on...instead of getting rid of Neal like the Jets did Beckton...just give him reps at Guard where he has experience and success at Alabama where he can use his size to maul and movement skills against smaller quicker edge rushers wont come up inside..

With this coaching staff ... whatever position Neal hasn't played will be the one he ends up playing.

yes and theme is those players get cut and move onto a new team, I don't see why the Giants should buck that trend for Neal

Giantsfan79 : 9/9/2024 11:17 am : link
we'll see how "well" Becton is playing after a larger sample size.

And to say Flowers became a "decent" guard can only be said when comparing him to the shit he was a tackle.

agree Neal should be tried at guard. He is a mauler who bullies people when he can just move them out of the way. His problem is that he has bad feet and poor lateral agility and mobility, which is why he can't play OT in the NFL.

But it's too late to begin transitioning him to guard this season. That will be for the offseason. And because he was the seventh pick in the draft, the FO and the coaching staff weren't going to do that except as a last resort.

Assuming Neal can be an effective guard, an OL of Thomas, Runyan, Schmitz, Neal, and Eluemunor could actually be quite good.

I’m not sure he would have bad feet or lateral agility issues as an OG. I think his problem is an OT is required to cover large distances very quickly while essentially backpedaling. The momentum he builds doing that (or trying to do that) leads to his balance issues.

His movement skills could actually be an advantage as a guard and, like you said, he could be a huge asset in the run game.
He is a good run blocker - which we need. And his problems in pass
Ira : 9/9/2024 12:09 pm : link
protection seem to be aggravated by being alone in space. I think he needs work in practice before moving into the lineup at guard, but it sounds like it's worth exploring.
This worked for Eric Moore
Paulie Walnuts : 9/9/2024 12:25 pm : link
Years ago. I would move him to RG he doesn't have the feet to play outside
I don't quite understand why folks can't quit him
Giantsfan79 : 9/9/2024 12:30 pm : link
ok maybe Neal could become a useful guard but why not go get a guy who is a no questions needed guard instead?

If they so choose
Chip : 9/9/2024 12:44 pm : link
Thay can play Em. at guard or move Neal to Tackle or try both and see which works best. Van Rotten was awful.

This post made me angry because of how dumb it was. Players can change positions on the OL. It happens all the time. I never understood why people on BBI think that this is some unheard of crazy idea

and if Neal wasn't a top 10 pick I'd be with you. But there is zero reason to believe he will be successful at guard. Better to cut bait and start over with an actual guard who's played the position before.

Other than the fact the Giants drafted Neal and since we're fans we're supposed to support him, what exactly has Neal done since arriving to earn any goodwill here?
He's played guard in college
Woodstock : 9/9/2024 3:38 pm : link
It's obvious he's not an NFL tackle. It cannot hurt to try him at guard and see if we can salvage something out of him. Eric Moore and I believe William Roberts made the transition successfully
yeah, they'll start transitioning him
Bill in UT : 9/9/2024 4:01 pm : link
in the offseason, when it's too late to know what they'll need in the draft and FAs. Par for the course

anyone know how many snaps he played?

I didn't see him on the field often, but hard to tell with those uni's.
