Offensive Line & WR Stats From Yesterday

Costy16 : 9/9/2024 2:06 pm
Giants O-line graded out at an 89.0 in pass block efficiency.

Wide receivers averaged 4.4 yards of separation which ranked 4th of all teams who played yesterday.
I mean . . . . there are no more excuses.

DJ had a functioning o-line and receivers getting open. As I was watching the game it seemed like he would see an open receiver and not believe it. He'd hesitate, and throw it a second to late. Lots of balls in the dirt or behind his receivers.
DJ was absolutely terrible yesterday

and i'm not defending him in the least. But, I don't know if I believe those stats. The OL was decent but at times looked bad. Better in the first half.

WR - I didn't see much separation yesterday. Even Vilma was pointing it out that the WR routes were off and seemed confused at times. Several drops as well.

Again DJ was god awful and he deserves most of the blame.

I also blame Daboll a lot for this. I've been saying this a gazillion times since last year. Daboll doesn't play his starters enough in the preseason. I don't give 2 shits about scrimmages, joint practices or training camp... nothing compares to live action games. The offense looked completely out of sync... I blame a lot of that on Daboll

Rewatched all his throws, the oline did a solid job, this is squarely on DJs inability to figure out what his purpose is on that given play, walking him self into trouble over and over again, holding on to the ball because he is to timid to let it rip. Good QBs throw receivers open or with anticipation, so they would not look open at a given point on the route (Vilma is clueless), but meet the receiver at the proper depth in its window.
Most of the drops were due to bad ball placement
BuryMeInBlue : 9/9/2024 2:21 pm : link
and Jones not putting the right touch on the ball.
Terrible pocket awareness, bad balls thrown

Management has done everything they can to help this guy succeed. He just looked shell shocked out there. If he can’t put it together in a game or two they need to bench him for good.

Few have been as supportive of DJ as me. That was the worst game I have ever seen a Giant QB play.
Oh dear

That does fit the narrative around here. You mean the line and receivers actually played okay? Heavens...

It seems to me that he plays his starters as much as other teams play theirs in the preseason. There are plenty of reasons this team stinks, but I don't think that is one of them
