After game 2 at Commanders
Pro: If 0-2 with another horrific game by Jones, Daboll may feel a QB change now gives some chance to save the season and possibly his job.
Con: Changing QBs after 2 games really brings the "we're going with Jones as our QB approach" under universal criticism.
After game 3 at Browns
Pro: If 0-3 with 3 horrific games by Jones, Daboll knows a QB change now is the last chance to save the season.
Con: Changing QBs after 3 games still really brings the "we're going with Jones as our QB approach" under universal criticism. Also, changing QBs on a short week is extra difficult.
After game 4 vs Cowboys on national TV at home.
Pro: If 0-4 or even 1-3 with another horrific nationally televised game by Jones and the luxury of extra time before game 5 at Seattle, Daboll may feel he's given Jones more than enough rope and its time to change.
Con: At Seattle isn't an idea place to change QBs. Daboll may want to wait until the schedule gets less difficult.
After game 5 at Seattle
Pro: If 0-5 or even 1-4 with another horrific game by Jones, and a nationally televised game versus the Bengals at home upcoming, this is a another key "fork in the road" time to switch.
Con: If 0-5 or 1-4 and if by some miracle the Giants are losing in spite of average to good play by Jones, Daboll may stick with Jones for another week.
After game 6 vs the Bengals on national TV.
Pro: If 0-6 or even 1-5 with another horrific game by Jones on national TV with the boo birds and empty seat at Metlife, only an idiot would stick with Jones this long if the record is 0-6 or 1-5. Playing Jones after 6 games with his injury guarantee would be ridiculous.
Con: IF Daboll gets orders from "Jints Central" to keep Jones at QB would be the only reason other than the Giants are doing a "soft tank" and Jones is the best way to tank.
Bottom line is the earliest Jones is benched is after game 2. If not after game 2, he likely survives to game 4. Game 6 is likely the longest Jones lasts if his play doesn't improve significantly.
My prediction (after one game into the 2024 season) is Jones is benched during game 4 versus the Cowboys on national TV at home.
What say you?
I'll be shocked if they start him against the Cowboys at home week 4. There will be riots in Metlife if he plays.
How about the Carolina game in Germany...that will set the NFL back to stone age days
I'm apathetic about it as well. I honestly don't really care anymore. I know nothing changes year in and year out and having hope all these years has given me nothing but agita. Now I just accept it
Danny DeVito is scrappy but he's got bad footwork inside the pocket, he doesn't roll out, and Jones can. It's trading one problem for another
Oh well...it is what it is. Go out with friends instead, go golfing...have a Sunday outing with friends...hang out in the nice fall weather, go fishing, go out day drinking, explore new areas....do anything at all, except watching the Giants....turn what is a huge negative into a positive.....
IF he gets benched as early as DURING the Commanders game, my guess is that Lock is probably not ready. But as I understand the 2023 Emergency QB rule, if De Vito is QB3, if he plays, the other QBs can't play, right?
So I think it will go:
1) Jones is benching during game x or between games y and z.
2) Lock comes in / takes over starting for Jones. At the same time DeVito is on the active roster for the game (i.e. not the emergency QB, so he can come in and be replaced).
3) If / when Lock struggles, we see DeVito this year.
If / when the season is lost and if / when Lock proves to be the JAG most think he his, the Giants probably have nothing to lose sticking with DeVito. In the very odd chance DeVito proves serviceable, he can be on the roster in 2025 (hopefully as QB2 after Jones is gone).
Then again, knowing this brain trust, they will probably play him and he will have a season ending injury.
The problem is, even after a loss, if he plays marginally better, I could see them rolling week to week.
Who are you? And what have you done with Jack?
Or now?
Disgraceful
I'm not sure we have a viable QB on the roster.

If he plays as bad against Wash as he did Sunday he’ll be benched at halftime, Daboll isn’t fucking around

After the season, of course. It's the Giants way.
I dont think they can to be honest and i am never one to say the fans should control the thinking of the front office but he is going to be Boo'ed relentlessly, it is not going to get easier, its going to get louder and louder
He’ll get behind in another game, get desperate to make something happen with his feet because he can’t with his head/arm, and bam! Out he goes.
The sad thing is, the Giants will be blown out AGAIN in a NATIONAL game, at home, no matter who starts. I don't think anyone will be in the stands 4th quarter. The stands might empty out as soon as mid 3rd.
Like Carr, he was over drafted, and not good enough.
Jones is a broken qb. Fire his ass
Jones needs to show basic, functional competency against a team he's historically played well against in the past. If he can't do that I think he'll get the hook (probably after the game). Jones has generally been better than Lock over his career, but if he's not adding anything positive, the consequences (with his injury clause) of him getting hurt become too high to continue playing him.
I feel similarly. A win and good performance by Jones standards, gets him at least another month - IMV.
You know it's bad when even the Daniel Jones troll has lost faith in a matter of a week.

This seems very plausible.
😂😂😂
This.
Apparently yesterday broke DJM too based on his posts on other threads

And indignantly remind you all that Jones won a playoff game and that you're downplaying the fact that he rushed for 700 yards and 7 TDs that season.

Holy shit, you're right. I envision a scene like the one from Superman 3, where djm splits into two people who fight one another in a junkyard.

I think yesterday broke a lot of us ‘wait and see’ posters.
I expected a lot more "it's only the first game" responses, but welcome to the club and enjoy your stay
I think we have a chance to win with Cutlets, and I’ve been preaching this message all off season, but clearly NY “not smart people” think they know more than me. Sigh……have they even seen my IQ score? ……lol
Only if one of the backups is looking good in practice, and that's tough to do when Jones will get most of the practice snaps, will Dabs start thinking of a switch.
If we get to the closing third of the season and DJ is showing little, they might shut him down to avoid the injury clause, but that's probably wishful thinking.
Another probable wishful thinking is that DJ probably has some ok-decent games. I want him to do great, or do horrible, so he'll probably do somewhere in between. Likely on the low side.
The wildcard is how Dabs holds the team together. It's certainly possible everything goes haywire.
+1
WAS is slow on D and simply not good; their stud DTs were more or less handled by even with Brederson at LG. League may be onto Schwartz at this point, just have to handle Garrett. I think Zimmer with that roster will conjure a ton of misfires* and tablet flips.
*nod to Sy'56
I think his performance was so bad against Minnesota, that he is on a short leash.
