asked for the ball outside on the 1st pitch. That is a mistake. Why play games with weakass batters? This late in the game a one run homer doesn't hurt you, a three runner does.
or four years the Yankees brain trusted decided resting people every week was a good idea - we all knew that was BS. This year they are playing the starters almost every night. O'Neill said starters need to play every game for regularity. Shocking!
echo the same as the bullshit arguments about Jeter as a shortstop. He doesn't have the speed. He doesn't have the range. Being a great MLB fielder isn't about speed or range, its about making plays.
I remember once when Phil Rizzuto was asked to compare Willie Mays and Joe DiMaggio. Rizzuto said that Mays was the fastest outfielder he ever saw and it was a pleasure watching him chase down a ball. DiMaggio, on the other hand rarely had to run hard because he was already there. I see the same thing with Judge. He has the ability to know where the ball is going. That doesn't stop him from go far into left field or right field to make a play.
Today in Pinstripe Alley:
Quote:
FanGraphs and Statcast Defensive Runs Saved and Outs Above Average each rank Judge among the worst in the league, with his -6 DRS ranking 20th among the 22 center fielders with at least 700 innings in center, and his -6 OAA 22nd. Additionally, he has yet to make a play categorized as “five star” (catch probability 25 percent or lower) out of 16 opportunities, and just one “four star” play (26 to 50 percent) out of nine. . . .Judge’s 30.5 feet covered in center field is the worst of his career and a full two feet fewer than he covered in 2023 (and three feet fewer than 2022). This puts him 3.5 less feet than league average, ranked 108 out of the 109 qualifying outfielders.
is to accommodate Soto. If we sign Soto there will need to be a decision about moving the big guy to 1B to prolong his career and improve our OF defense. I'll bet he wins a GG at 1B.
at the exact right time. Judge and Soto are getting their cold streaks out of the way now - that bodes well for the remainder of the season and postseason. Cole appears to be locking in too. If those three are at the top of their games we can beat anybody. Lineup and rotation are looking deeper than they’ve been all season. I’m purposefully ignoring the bullpen, thanks.

Interesting - the HR he saved about 10 days ago isn't a 5 star play? Run to the wall, jump up and take a HR away...

I've linked the play. It is a very good play and the type of play Judge is good at. He didn't have to cover that much ground or run all out to get to the wall and then he was able to use his height to advantage.
I'll see what I can find from Statcast.
The Yankees recently had a truly elite fielding CF: Harrison Bader. He was a disappointment at the plate but the real deal as a CF.
I don't get it. That is the RF ball and Torres should never have called for it.

Soto should have called it though.

Yep. I don't know why Soto pulled up and let Gleyber roller-skate around under it like that.

Torres has to go for it until he gets called off. Soto never did.
180 feet of distance, a mile in the air. Right fielder's ball.
But Soto is a DH.
Same here. There are some holes on this team, infield D being one of them. And both the pitchers and hitters are streaky.
7-4
One AB too soon! 3 run snotlocker blast by Wells..7-4
but he is eating a huge amount of room on this roster at a position we needed to upgrade.

His last year, no?

I believe so. Unless he puts on a red cape in October, we need to let him walk.
on the 3-2
Let's go Torres.
the real reason the Martian is up. I think Judge is full time DH in September.

For both Soto and Judge...
Nice W.
Yeah, but Judge and Soto need days off, clearly. Stanton won't be benched, but he may only be 5 games per week.
