Welcome to another series thread, this time against the Blue Jays (68-76) in Toronto. The Mets (78-65) haven’t played the Blue Jays yet this year. They got swept last year in Flushing against them
in three games early last June. The Mets are coming into this series having won nine of their last ten games, while the Jays are 3-7 in their last ten. Click

Torrens (R), Taylor (R), Reyes (R), Winker (L), & Stewart (L).
Just win at this point, who cares how.
Megill is quite the enigma....nights like tonight make you understand why the Mets haven't given up on him...kind of like D.Petersen (AKA the ace).
Again, just win....
Those three games in Atlanta are looking really big.
i think you let it ride. if you need blackburn as a long man out of pen you have him then go to megill. if you skip blackburn a full turn you have him on standby if megill (or anyone else) gets into early trouble.
2 big takeaways from last night were the Megill performance and the fact that the lead was given up late on the road which usually spells trouble and it was really nice to see them bounce right back. Winker worked a great AB to lead off the 8th and get things started.
Arizona - 18 - .515
Atlanta - 18 - .508
San Diego - 17 - .485
The Mets with 7 left vs Phillies is the big driver... Padres only have 3 left with Dodgers and Braves have 0 with Phillies. Braves do have 4 left with Dodgers though..
Kinda makes you miss the old schedule that had a lot more divisional play.
the braves advantage is 1 fewer series vs a good opponent than the 3 teams in front of them.
fangraphs has mets/braves current odds both right around 60%.
@timbhealey
Paul Blackburn (back discomfort) isn’t feeling much better, so he won’t pitch against the Phillies this weekend, Carlos Mendoza said.
Tylor Megill will get at least another start. He’s in line for Sunday against the Phillies but could get flipped to Monday against the Nationals.

Right? Does Mendoza let the game get away when the Braves are feasting on the Nationals?
Good point
sitting iglesias, marte, bader against a righty isn't something i would call punting. all 3 of them have big lefty/righty splits and honestly none of them are truly every day players at this point in their careers.
the mcneil injury was a big depth loss (as was not having baty able to come up in his place).
Marte last 15 games .222/.236/.278
Marte last 15 games .222/.236/.278
yup this is last 14 days, and not even split only against righties (where all 3 players are worse). bassitt threw a good game, peterson had his first bad outing a while. win today and win the series. cant sweep everyone and i believe if they just win all their series the rest of the year they win exactly 90.
@timbhealey
Mets rotation at Phillies this weekend...
Friday: Jose Quintana
Saturday: Luis Severino
Sunday: TBA but sounds like David Peterson

MLB.com - Gameday Wrap
I was having flashbacks to September 1969 when Bob Moose of the Pirates no-hit the Mets during that playoff race, my 2nd Mets game ever.
Frankie with the biggest hit of the year (yes, Gary Cohen said it first).
Who knows what will happen, but hard to believe it's not going to come down to those three games in Atlanta.
The Braves just lost another pitcher, Reynaldo Lopez to the IL. Indeed, these are not the same Braves, so many replacements in the lineup, but they still have Sale and Fried pitching 40% of the time.
I have a friend who is a big Red Sox fan; he can't believe Sale is finally healthy after being injured year after year for Boston. He's been quite the ace for Atlanta, who struck gold when they signed him despite his injuries.
-They're a game up on the Braves and 5 up on the Cubs for that last playoff spot.
-The Mets and Braves both have off-days today.

Padres lost too...
Where do we want to be?
On one hand: Getting to that 4 seed and having a homefield in 1st round seems ideal... but then you are playing either San Diego, Arizona, or Atlanta in the 1st round.
If you get the 6 seed, you are almost certainly playing the Brewers.
Kinda seems like the worst spot is 5th, because I'd think that 4 seed (probably Padres) is actually stronger than the Brewers and you don't have homefield.
Pretty awesome to even be thinking about this!
The way the Brewers have been pitching I would rather take my chances with homefield advantage and get the higher seed.
Yep..
Just gotta focus on taking 2 of 3 from the Phillies.
This. Wise words indeed sir.

Exactly. One series at a time now. Gotta win em all. Hopefully the Mets are up at least a game on the Braves when they begin their three-game series against them in Atlanta on the 24th.
if im counting right it looks like sale's regular day will be the first game of the series. followed by morton, then fried.
fried and morton both have 4+ era's in the 2nd half so it's possible they switch something (schwellenbach?). his regular day is the day before sale, so they could just push him back or skip him or something.
martino just mentioned that senga could be an option against atlanta/milwaukee.

@martinonyc
Kodai Senga is still in play to start for the Mets in Atlanta or Milwaukee this month.
Mets tentatively line up best pitching for key Atlanta series -- but Kodai Senga is still in play - ( New Window )

Dedniel Nunez received a PRP injection today for a flexor injury. His season is over, said Carlos Mendoza.
Lost my way and forgot how to post snips/pics so went old school with the lineup
Jose Quintana Vs Aaron Nola
Mets
Lindor
Vientos
Nimmo
Alonso
Winker
Iglesias
Taylor
Alvarez
Bader
Phillies:
Schwwarber
Turner
Harper
Castellanos
JT
Stott
Kennedy
Rojas
so far 0-0 but props to the Mets for running up Nola pitch count in the first and Alonso for making a pretty big dive play saving a run.
Quintana looks dialed in, fast ball is hard, change up is working.
Also great throw out by Alvarez in the 2nd.
Happy Friday let's go Mets.
