At least Wellington learned after is near-disastrous tenure with nephew Tim. He let the adults in the room make the decisions.
He only learned because he was scolded by the commissioner of the damn NFL and forced to hire a grown-up and stop letting his little Mara family squabble wreck a cornerstone franchise.
how the Mara's sincere love of football has rendered them lousy owners. If they didn't care and saw the Giants only as a piggybank, they'd be happy to hand off administrative duties to experienced executives.
It is an interesting psychological what-if to ponder, though - would you willingly give up a dream job like running the Giants on the chance that you're the problem? Or would you look for any out possible to justify it to yourself that it's not that bad...
These guys have been waterskiing behind the growth and success of the NFL for 75 years. Don't expect any changes.
This is incredibly obtuse. The team has won more championships in its history than all but 2 teams (Packers, Bears). They have played in more Championship games than any other team in history.
Does anyone see a legitimate answer to the problem?

Thank you. I think you mean a hundred years though. But yeah, like Jimmy Dolan, they're never going to sell. It's their cash cow. And their golden goose will keep laying golden eggs for them.

Wellington Mara learned that he was good at business matters but bad at football matters. He stepped away from running the team and became a revered figure for the entire league.
John and the rest of the Mara extended family should at least consider following his example. The football side has been as bad under their leadership as it was under Wellington Mara. The business side hasn't been stellar either but they probably can't screw that up as obviously as they have the football side.
I gather that there are some in the Mara family who really want to be in the football side of things. They probably should sell their shares and get hired by another team.
it sort of points out what happens when you have fans rather than professionals make the decisions
Which teams have professional owners?
Sorry, I don't understand the question. I don't see how it's responsive to my quote that you used. If my comment wasn't clear, it was meant to refer to the Mara's as fans.
He learned after 18 years.
John’s got a few years to go!
He was forced to by Rozelle.

Within a few years of Wellington passing away, John and Chris Mara jump right back in and drive the team right into the ground.
It is a popularity contest for John clearly. If he loves the player, he will demand he is played!

At this point I'd settle for someone taking inspiration from celebrated 90s gem Celtic Pride
But I think he’s a football idiot who is sentimental to people who don’t deserve such sentimentality.

Very true, but he was much better even after George Young left.
Humiliation fetishes -for those with power and money.

LA Rams owner Stan Kroenke.
Besides Rams he owns the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Arsenal F.C. and MLS and pro lacrosse teams.
Not a passing hobby for his holding company.
