Dottino and Howard Cross the last line of DJ defenders

Ned In Atlanta : 9/11/2024 7:51 am
Listened to Big Blue Kickoff on Monday, and it was a rough listen

*the first caller brought up the PFF stat about the WRs having the 4th highest yard of separation. Cross quickly shot that down, stating that yards of separation are measured after the QB breaks the pocket and starts to scramble. Cross basically said that, watching from the field, they weren't getting much separation

*Dottino pointed out the fact that Burrow and Cousins both missed time with injury last year and played like crap. I don't know how that is an excuse for DJ, but he threw it out there

*A caller, who last week made the bold prediction that DJ would finish top ten in MVP voting, pointed to the Adoree BS PI call 'deflating the team.' First and foremost, if an NFL team can't recover from one bad call in the first quarter up 3-0, that is simply pathetic. To P Dot's credit he kinda pushed back on this.

Top Ten in MVP Voting??

Okay guys, fess up. Which one of you was that?
Ok
g56blue10 : 9/11/2024 7:59 am : link
The missing time part is valid to some degree but the WR’s not getting open is not. Even watching on TV I seen multiple times when I player was open and didn’t throw the ball. He struggles to stay in the pocket and often moved into pressure when there was a decent pocket. He was downright awful
Dottino is not to be taken seriously

Hard to take anyone seriously that would say that.
I pointed out a few
jvm52106 : 9/11/2024 8:14 am : link
things they were saying Monday that just didn't make any sense. Howard was talking about not seeing anyone get open and at the same time talk about being on the sideline. How the hell can you see the whole field, the coverage etc from the sideline?

Papa and Banks were far more honest in their assessment of Jones and it wasn't good at all.
That is not how separation is calculated
ajr2456 : 9/11/2024 8:16 am : link
Burrow completed 73% of his passes, Bengals just couldn’t get anything deep.

Cousins completed 63%.

Luckily the Giants play both, so we’ll get to see how dumb Cross and Dottino really are

Burrow and Cousins have produced at a high level in the NFL. Of course you give guys like that the benefit of the doubt, especially Burrow who has come back from injury before...

If receivers weren't getting open, why did Jones have 22 completions for the game?

Paid

shills by the organization.

Papa and Banks kissed Judge and DG's ass up until the very end, why is anyone surprised ?

For Burrow, he had Tee Higgins out and lots of drama with Chase who is not happy and couldn't be in game shape after not having even practiced prior to a few days before game 1.

This is like Snyder-owned Pollyanna media in the DC area

We are going to have the same old "he is a company man" response here if he disagrees with posters narratives. On that note Jones was still missing throws and ran himself into some sacks this past game. I'm worried he is watching the rush and note having his eyes down the field at this point.

Winning a Super Bowl 30 years ago doesn’t mean you actually understand football.

It’s funny, accolades mean something when the person defends the Giants. But HOFers who criticize the Giants don’t know what they’re talking about.

Under that thinking, Bill B should be coaching right now.
Alas, some things have passed him by. Note his shabby roster management.

Banks is not the Pope -he's not infallible.
All these complaints that Daniel Jones needs more time to shake

the rust off from missed time last year are silly.

DJ was hitting guys for pick-6s during the preseason and has been able to carry that consistency right into the regular season as well.

Eyes see what they want to see regardless of reality. To be able to accurately judge what we are seeing would require us to drop our biases to become objective.

On the other hand, things are not always as they seem.

To be clear, I am not defending Jones. I think there is more to what you said than you stated.

christian : 9/11/2024 10:24 am : link
If that's a direct quote from Cross, that is a misleading description of separation.

But unless you are watching the broadcast from the All 22 view or you're sitting in the 300 section in the end zone, identifying why things went poorly does take analysis.

That Jones played poorly was easy to observe. What went into it is worth debating and reviewing.

That depends. Was my first view of something enough to gather quality information? I saw a struggling qb on Sunday. However, if someone that is reputable claims they have evidence of the contrary, I probably should at least see what they are talking about, perhaps I missed something in my evaluation.

Yup, was just going to post this.

The reason why Jones is so bad is debatable, but the fact he was so bad is not.

We can talk about him being rusty. We can talk about the fact that he isn't all the way back from the knee injury which is effecting his already weakish arm and his accuracy.

But we need to realize that QB's go through progressions and it seems Jones is unable to do this.

Qb's need pocket awareness, Jones seems to PTSD.

Jones also tried to run a few times and looked like he lost a step.

If he stinks it up next week and we lose, it has to be over for him.

No, I made up my mind with Jones last year. My comments really do not have anything to do with Jones. More so about the way we perceive what we are seeing.

lol certainly feels like it.

The narrative for DJ's career has been "He's never had a functional/average OL to operated behind"

Well - 3 of the 5 sacks were on DJ's pocket presence.

He got exactly that last week - an average NFL OL performance.

Apparently now he need's the Cowboys 90s Oline.

Dottino going on WFAN and pleading for gettleman to get another year before he got fired was pathetic. Mara loves Giants nostalgia more than winning. It was kind of funny to see the embarrassment on Sunday during the 100th year celebration

It's insane how many fans and this front office completely washed away Jones' last season. Yes it was only 6 games but it was alarmingly poor.

It is simply mind-numbing to actually watch a Daniel Jones led-Offense play season after season.

However, that doesn't come close to the brain-dead spin we have to hear & read about from those defending him; blaming other players and coaches; comparing him to other QBs who may have struggled; and waiting to see if he can put it together next week/next year and finally become a quality QB.

I wonder why a player like Evan Neal
Mike from Ohio : 9/11/2024 12:18 pm : link
doesn't get this level of excuse making? Everyone seems fine to say sure he was injured, but he doesn't look good at all and we should move on from him.

Jones? Nope! His shortcomings are all due to the Oline, the WRs, Injury, fan sentiment, alignment of Jupiter, etc. There is no world for some in which Jones just simply isn't a good QB.

It would be a fascinating case study on why the Giants PR efforts favor certain players over others.

Thought I would add to the
Gman11 : 9/11/2024 1:14 pm : link
piling on.

What's the difference between Jones and Lock? With Lock teams saw enough of him to realize that he is not an NFL caliber qb.

Jones got an extension with big money.

At this point I would play DeVito and hope he improves. We have already seen that it won't happen with the other two.

Exactly. Monday afternoon I was listening to Evan and Tiki and both said some variation of it's too early to judge Jones in terms of benching or you can't make a rash decision off of one game. They weren't really defending Jones as much as knocking down those calling for DeVito...but I was furious. One game? That one game was being tacked on to the prior 5 seasons. There is plenty of visual and statistical evidence on Jones.

Exactly and I've already heard at least 5 different analysts say exactly this about Sunday. There are the 3 sacks that were on him, but also missing hot reads the few times there was immediate pressure, missing reads of open receivers who appeared to be primary reads, and then his piss poor throws when under no duress. ENOUGH!
Croass' comment is just plain stupid
Matt M. : 9/11/2024 2:40 pm : link
and Dottino's is irrelevant. I don't care what other QBs did returning from injuries in their games. As far as I'm concerned, if you are on the field, you are healthy enough to play. If you still aren't 100% healthy and/or you are rusty, then you don't play. Jones was not hampered by his surgically repaired knee. He had no need for a brace, seemed to have full mobility and speed.
