Hypothetical QB Question: Carolina panthers

JT039 : 9/11/2024 8:21 am
There could be an argument that the Panthers are actually much worse than the Giants and that they will get the number 1 pick again this year.

If this is the case. Would you want to acquire Bryce Young? His situation is actually quite worse than the Giants. His team is going to be awful again. Obviously, you do not give up your first round pick for him but maybe your 2nd? There is a lot of top CBs and DTs in the draft that can help this team.

Would do you think it would take to acquire him if you think he can be available?
No

No and No.
don't know that I want him
Giantsfan79 : 9/11/2024 8:23 am : link
as Eric said in his podcast, the Giants have broken Daniel Jones and it looks like the Panthers are doing the same with Young.
rather have him than Jones
bigbluehoya : 9/11/2024 8:28 am : link
but no, I don't "want" Young as the QB of the Giants, and I wouldn't give up a damned thing for him.
I was never a fan of Young, so no, not interested
Anakim : 9/11/2024 8:30 am : link
Would I take him over DJ? Yes. But at least we can get out of DJ's deal in 2025 and pursue a real franchise QB.
Obviously we're one week in here...
bw in dc : 9/11/2024 8:37 am : link
but based on how he's looked, produced and his size, Young is only worth a day three pick right now.
Why would you go for
section125 : 9/11/2024 8:40 am : link
another failed QB? If Carolina wants to move on from Young, that means he is awful.

So no, thank you.
It's a interesting question
Jerry in_DC : 9/11/2024 8:43 am : link
I had an eye on that game for a bit on Sunday and was thinking the same thing. I would not give up any value for Young though. He looks so bad. Just completely overwhelmed.

Situation is horrible for sure. Maybe he has an upside outcome of being a Tua kind of guy who gives you a high ceiling in a really good situation. But it seems to me that there are a lot of situations where he would just be bad.
if we are going young (age) QB
jvm52106 : 9/11/2024 8:43 am : link
then no need to go for the undersized Young and just go after one of the slew of potential QB's coming out in 2025.

Beck
Ewers
Ward- my current favorite (after Beck)
Dart
Allar- if he can do it for a full season, he has all the tools.
As the back up to whoever we draft sure

We’ll need to add possibly 3 QBs this offseason
I wouldn’t give more than a mid-round pick,
Section331 : 9/11/2024 8:50 am : link
NO WAY am I giving up a 2nd (which will likely be a mid-30’s pick). His situation is probably worse than Jones’s was, but he hasn’t flashed even once.
No, the NFL is a big man, big QB league
JonC : 9/11/2024 8:52 am : link
Young's size is a big problem.

Great thread. I thought about starting something similar. I recall a lot of BBI'ers being very high on Young in Alabama. Assuming the regime is still here, I could see Young coming here. They did homework on him last year and Schoen & Morgan are close.
Is his situation much worse
barens : 9/11/2024 9:27 am : link
though?
You know, at this point, if it was a straight up trade
PatersonPlank : 9/11/2024 9:29 am : link
I'd do it. Why not, Jones sucks. If Young sucks the same so what? I wouldn't pay 1 dime to do this thought because I don't like either QB

If you hate Mara - Tapper is worse
His skilled players are worse

I would say yes.
One of the big knacks on Jones
JT039 : 9/11/2024 9:35 am : link
is he really has not had the success anywhere since college or in the pros.

Young was an excellent college QB. His size is a huge problem as JonC pointed out. But I am not sure the book is written on him yet.
Two things need to happen on Nov 10 in Germany
ThomasG : 9/11/2024 10:06 am : link
1 - The Giants need to throw that game versus Carolina
2 - Leave everybody other than Dex, Thomas and Nabers in Europe

I'm not sure about Young as his size doesn't bode well
Dinger : 9/11/2024 10:10 am : link
for his health especially on the Giants behind our unproven line. But I am still curious to know why we signed Lock as opposed to making a move for or signing any of the other QBs of his 'caliber'. Why not Desmond Ridder, Bailey Zappe, MAlik Willis, Justin Fields, Trey Lance, etc. Not saying any are a better option or were more easily 'available'. Just would like to know if they see anything particularly 'special' with him and how close he actually is to displacing DJ.
to be a fly on the wall for that negotiation between d-mo + schoen
Eric on Li : 9/11/2024 10:12 am : link
i still believe in bryce but holy hell the panthers are an even bigger mess than nyg which doesnt even seem possible watching the nyg.
I would be all over it
Lines of Scrimmage : 9/11/2024 10:20 am : link
Big believer and still am. Not what I expected but still think he has the ability to come out on the other end positively. They are a mess. Mistake hardly playing starter in PS. Disagree with the size argument.

Look, I believe Young is a better football player than Jones. He has better instincts and awareness. But I agree the size is a big negative. And it seems that would be a major knock in the body type Schoen and Daboll prefer.

So, Young isn't worth anything more than a day three pick at this point.

While I wouldn't mind watching him play for NYG right now - because I can't stand watching Jones anymore - Young isn't a long term solution.
I am surprised everyone is saying no

Given the number of people who argued that you can’t accurately judge a qb put into a terrible situation
No.
Torn Tendon : 9/11/2024 7:51 pm : link
2025 QB may not be as bad as previously predicted several draftniks are saying. Though 2026 looks to have a terrific class. Hopefully the Giants don't reach for a guy like Gettleman did.

christian : 9/11/2024 8:01 pm : link
Maybe for a 4th and if there is a clever way for Carolina to pick up some of the future salary.

That’s a great point, but the money is wildly different.
Straight uo for Jones
Jerry in_DC : 9/11/2024 8:39 pm : link
Of course you'd do it, just based on the unknown. If I had to predict, I don't think he'll be much better than Jones if at all.

Actually- on a really good team, Young might be better due to better processing and (possibly) throwing. On a bad/mediocre team, Jones is probably better because of his normal size and running ability.

Go Terps : 9/11/2024 8:43 pm : link
Just do what they should have done in 2024: clear out the existing QB room, sign a non-Lock competent veteran in FA, and draft two quarterbacks. The first round pick doesn't have to be a quarterback; it would be just like the Giants to draft a worse QB in '25 ahead of a better WR prospect than Nabers.

If DJ doesn't get injured, they have pretty much identical remaining cap hits. If DJ does get injured then Young’s contract is less painful than DJ’s.
