Ryan Tannehill anyone?

Fat Wally : 9/11/2024 3:16 pm
Still a free agent, he can't be any worse than Danny Boy. I'm surprised they didn't look into him and thought Lock would be a better option, was it just the financials?

I'm guessing they didn't want to screw with DJ's confidence, so they brought in a backup who wouldn't push for the starting spot.

Just sucks we are at week 2 and our season is over, at least a guy like Tannehill could give us a little bit of Flacco like spark. I'm sure the team would love it.

why you think Tannehill is an improvement over Locke?
Would at least

Make it interesting
He would absolutely be an improvement
Greg from LI : 9/11/2024 3:18 pm : link
But what would be the point to trying to eke out, say, 6-7 wins instead of 2 or 3?

At this point, they need to truly bottom out and start fresh with a rookie QB next year. Bring on Carson Beck

At least Tannehill has had success. I think this team is capable of getting a wild card with a game manager+ type qb. I would rather watch entertaining football and win 8-9 games then piss away another year and waiting for the draft, when that's not even a crapshoot. I also think it would save Daboll+Schoen who I think deserve a chance to select their own QB.
I get the sense that Tannehill isn’t interested
Section331 : 9/11/2024 3:23 pm : link
unless he’s going to start. There were rumblings that he would sign with GB after the Love injury, but it didn’t happen. I wonder if they told him Willis would be the starter and he decided to stay home.

He’d be an upgrade, but if we’re not making the playoffs (spoiler alert: we’re not), then what’s the point? Win a couple more games to take us out of a QB draft spot.

the key word is past. Over the last few seasons his numbers have seriously declined and he was an albatross on the Titans at the end. Plus his best season was when he was "game managing" in front of peak Derrick Henry whom is currently not on the Giants roster.
Yeah let's sign Tannehill
Jay on the Island : 9/11/2024 3:35 pm : link
so that the Giants end up winning 5 games instead of 2-3 which will come back to haunt us on draft day.
Giants would be better off eating a 2-15

and drafting their choice of QB. Enough with the half measures and trying to win now when they stink.

This. Tannehill was garbage last year. He doesn't do enough to turn the Giants into a playoff contender.
Tannehill's Agent calls Ryan....Want to sign with the Giants?

His response: "That O-Line? Harumph. Something better will come along."

Agree....let's play this out and get a top draft pick. Time for change.

This, take the lumps and hope they don't get pointless wins again. I don't care about winning this season, they need the best opportunity possible to get someone. The Pats missing that FG last season was brutal.

The o-line was fine.
sorry, I wait all year to watch Giants football, This isn't Madden
Fat Wally : 9/11/2024 4:19 pm : link
and you can't just simulate your way to the draft. I would rather watch entertaining football and let the chips fall where they may. Then "Hope" we hit on a draft pick. Ask the Jets who have drafted 2 qbs in the top 5 the last 6 years how that's worked out for them.

I'm not saying he's the answer or the future.. I just want to be entertained. The same way I was entertained during DeVito's 3 game streak last year.
Just wanting to win or be entertained

is how the Giants keep winding up at the bottom of the NFL.

At some point, there needs to be an intelligent self-analysis and plan forward.

Agree with this. As much as I can't stand the idea of hoping this team loses week to week - after week 1 - a 5-7 win season and getting a nice corner in the first round of the draft feels like Groundhog Day with this team.

2-15 is looking better for me……with hockey around the corner and the baseball playoffs looming large, I guess I will have other modes of entertainment…hopefully happy moments. Can’t be any sadder than what I saw Sunday.
No to Tanneyhill
5BowlsSoon : 9/11/2024 4:50 pm : link
We signed Lock to be our back up and we also have Cutlets, who went 3-3 last year and won us a very rare MNF game.
Still golf

I agree with you.

They should yearly pick up an unwanted free agent QB, win 8-9 games every year, for say the next 50 years, with their 25th HC and GM over that time span, draft nobodies in the 1st round, playing in a new rat hole 12,000 seat Bridgeport CT stadium, built to an AI predicted perfectly aligned ticket buying public, a field built from melted down and pulverized Pepsi cans, for their glorious 150th anniversary, with a John Mara-brained cyberbot overseeing it all.

Sarcasm off. ;)
Lock or DeVito and

Just bench DJ. I’m utterly convinced if a QB they liked fell they would have grabbed one. But they didn’t happen. Also think there was zero chance they were cutting DJ even if they didn’t lol fact a Qb. They weren’t paying him 40 million to sit home.

I don’t think DJ is even a back up anymore. Tbh him sucking so bad in game 1 is a long term plus. He will be not be back thankfully
I doubt the Giants will have to tank
arniefez : 9/11/2024 7:56 pm : link
they have the talent on and off the field to finish 2-15 if they get a few breaks.

I don't ever want to see the Giants try to tank.

They would probably be as inept at tanking games as they are winning games, and wind up with the 6th pick in a 3 QB draft and the top 3 teams all desperately need a QB.

I will never understand people who find any level of entertainment due to a couple of meaningless wins in a doomed season.

The Tommy Cutlets thing made no sense to me, and, as predicted, prevented the Giants from a chance at the top 3 draft QBs.

Find something else to do with your Sunday.
Maybe next season....

Have to let this season play out now. It'll most likely put us in good position to grab a top QB

do not love tanking after one game tho
but at the same time I want to make it clear

I root for every player the Giants bring in...draft, trade, or FA

but there comes a time in a mans life...and I have had plenty of them.

It's about taking your medicine so you gain a potential path to improvement. I wouldn't expect tanking purposely

It was hope. Why get a high draft pick and hope he's a player if you can find one literally off the street in your own backyard?

Fine line between hope and delusion.

Games on purpose, at least forfeit them and send the money back.

ChrisRick : 9/12/2024 7:57 am : link
fans wanting to be entertained probably as very very little to do with the actual result of the team. Let fans root the way they want. If you want the team to lose, fine. If you want the team to win games that are meaningless to someone else, so be it.

I prefer to be entertained because that is why I watch the Giants. Winning is the ultimate entertainment, but we don't have that. We are not guaranteed another day here, much less an entire year.
I'm sure the rest of the team wants to win this year though
Simms11 : 9/12/2024 9:44 am : link
regardless of how we feel. They put in hard work and train all off-season. I'm sure they'd appreciate a competent QB.
