We have 3 above average players on defense the rest are average at best.
We tend to overate our talent. But the results show what our talent level really is at.

I agree. Especially on defense. The offense is harder to evaluate because of the QB situation.
Reminded of the quote from Okereke last year, he said it took 5 games to acclimate to Wink's defense. There were always going to be lumps out of the gate. The secondary has a lot of change in particular. McKinney -> Nubin and the 5 CB rotation will settle in. Also, 6th rounder Muasau had to start.

I would say Dex, Burns, Okereke, Banks even Kayvon are above average. Average is not a lofty threshold. And the safety's are very young but promising.

They've played, I think, less than 70 snaps of the football with a new defense. A very different defense than last year and starting several rookies at key positions.
There will be plenty of time to complain if things dont clean up in a month. At this point its a little much to draw conclusions.

#Giants100 Ghobrial - saw some more variety of KOR in wk 1.....if you stop the KOR inside the 25, it sparks your defense when it goes on the field
#Giants100 Ghobrial - smith marsette is bigger in person and has real speed.
#Giants100 Ghobrial - when the punt hits the ground, all guys need to stay away...slayton was caught on the middle of trying to return it because ball came off punter's foot funny

#Giants100 Ghobrial - gillan had a really good game vs vikes...start with the snap and then he was able to really put his foot on the ball.
#Giants100 Ghobrial - the punt to the 1 vs minny happened the friday before the vikings game - at that time, ford wheaton made the play to down it

Special teams coordinator Michael Ghobrial said new return specialist Ihmir Smith-Marsette “has real, real speed.” Smith-Marsette surprised Ghobrial with his size when he first arrived for a tryout on Monday.

#Giants100 Bowen - a lot to improve in vs minny.. too many long passes...started well and then didnt make enough plays
#Giants100 Bowen - flott went into the slot because he had experience and was unsure about other pieces....phillips impressed and hope for more improvement
#Giants100 Bowen - hawkins and Ajax can take up slack if mcloud is out.....still has confidemce in front four and the edge guys
@giantswfan

#Giants100 Bowen - tell the guys that the best players HAVE to be good and perform every week....
#Giants100 Bowen - lack of heat vs minny was a combo of things ... some of their protections and some play calls and some of not winning 1 on 1s
#Giants100 Bowen - there were plays where the esge guys were around darnold but didnt finish the play....need to get there and be consistent
@giantswfan

#Giants100 Bowen - when the plays are there to make, you have to make them....although you wont win all of them
#Giants100 Bowen - daniels is explosive and gets vertical....decisive in throwing the ball....had a really good debut....got to match and cover and not let him get loose
#Giants100 Bowen on simmons - expect him to play vs wash...he should be frustrated about the minn game...proud of his response...want him to make most of it

Shane Bowen, #Giants DC, says just now that he expects Isaiah Simmons to play this week at Washington on defense. Bowen says he’s glad Simmons is frustrated, and he’s handled it well in practice so far

#Giants100 Bowen on dexter lawrence - he is always going to be a handful.....they double him and we have to win the 1 on 1s on the outside
@JordanRaanan
Giants DC Shane Bowen said he tells his defensive front (Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux) every day they have to be dominant. This defense needs it in order to be successful.
The resources spent on it demand that. These are the “expectations that come with that,” Bowen said. #Giants

#Giants100 Kafka on Nabers - good to get him some chances in wk 1....want to build on it...you design how you want to use him and then see what the defense is taking away...and sort through the options
#Giants100 Kafka - daily talk in QB room is about the progressions on top of core concepts and installs
#Giants100 Kafka - pressure of pass rush, timing, route discipline, footwork, a whole bunch of things go into a passing operation....got to practice things going awry so you can still make plays
@giantswfan
·
32m
#Giants100 Kafka - going to specifically work on the details of the footwork with jones today .... trying to build a library of specific movements in certain situations
#Giants100 Kafka - doesnt matter how long you play, got to lean on fundamentals to self-correct
#Giants100 Kafka - havent seen loss of confidence in jones....all offense has to play as one...it is an 11-man operation
@giantswfan
·

#Giants100 Kafka - everyone can have an opinion..... knows jones and he has dealt with the opinioms better than any QB and that is part of the job..he is tough

DC Shane Bowen on #giants pass rush:
“I tell them that every day, ‘Where the resources are delegated, you got to be good. Your best players got to be good, right? It’s the nature of the league. Your best players got to play their best every single Sunday.”

LB Darius Muasau (knee) and CB Nick McCloud (knee) were on the side again. Not looking good for Sunday. No sign of WR Gunner Olszewski (groin), who again is likely headed to IR.

#Giants outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen suffered a broken leg when he got hit on the sideline during Sunday's game. He had surgery today.
Looked like Ben Burress was stepping into his place. Burress was working 1-on-1 with Brian Burns.

Well, if you have 3 above average players and the rest are average, you have an above average defense. I can live with that for now, and I wish we could do the same on offense.

This roster has only two very good players on it, neither of whom were acquired by this regime.
