this thread is inspired by the news of Toney missing from practice again.
Too many people were going nuts for this guy due to a handful of plays. We even heard "never give up on talent" by far too many people after we traded him.
We (or even Giants leadership) have been fooled before and truly want to believe in a player based off of a very small sample of success.
We can of course look at our QB who after winning that first game in Tampa had Giants fans fist pumping. Then flashed again in the playoffs which led to his contract.
Are we at that point now with KT who flashes but is not consistent? How about Hyatt who may not be worth less than a bag of dicks after this season.
What other player in our team's history did we hold onto for so long not simply because he was a draft pick but because we kept getting teased by the occasional play?
KT needs to develop his flashes into that next level of elite play, Toney probably already has the talent but needs a reality adjustment.
Case in point- Daniel Jones. 7 good games out of 61.
We're seeing a lot of good players leave the Giants and excel. KT is 23. He doesn't deserve any of these kinds of labels yet.
Many are applying the Jones excuse making to Schoen & Daboll now
Yeah they “flashed” with Josh Allen , their first 9 games here and 1 playoff game vs Vikings
Big picture though? They have not been very good at all
Thibs does more than flash, he accumulated double digit sacks last season. What he does is disappear against very good tackles, so there's 8 good games from him, 4 okay ones and 5 horrid ones a year. Consistency and learning to think you're way through beating better players are what he needs to work on.
With Toney, its not flashing, he legitimately has all the talent in the world to be a great receiver in this league. His problem is he's an outright mental case who doesn't want to practice or work. Players like this shouldn't be around your team.
agreed
When i look at KT, I am not looking at sacks. I am looking at everything, his run stopping, pressures and overall impact on the game.
Let's not get hung up too much on KT here. I just used him as an example. Plug in whatever player you want.
He was a 1st round pick who didn't make it to the trade deadline of his 2nd season.
I can't remember the Giants cutting bait so quickly on a draft pick ever.
If Nabers has a couple of amazing plays against Washington this week, but also a drop or slips on a route, how do you think the Giants should protect themselves from him? Trade him now?
The man does not care nor has a willingness to learn. We saw it happen in Kansas City, too, and playing with a great coach and great quarterback. If his moment was going to strike, that would've been the time for it happen. It didn't, and it won't. Now in Cleveland, I'll be surprised if he's active any more than three games.
"Flash" is absolutely the wrong way to describe that.
