You watch Alonso and Jones and see how much pressing and pressure can affect some athletes play.
I really liked DJ but he is now thinking about what he sees instead of just reacting. Hence in the words of Eric - he is broken.
Nice to see that Barkley still cares about a friend.
Barkley and Jones - (
New Window )
Yes. It's not like he is shell shocked.. he was never able to process the plays quickly enough.

This is who he has been for 5+ seasons now.

It’s weird that the fans notice it, other teams have said it over and over, yet the astute football people in the Giants organization paid him and we’re stuck with him.

First, you really dont know who in the organization was pounding the table to sign him. I would also not use the term "astute" loosely. I believe we can use that word to describe Schoen, but nobody north of him in the organization.
Coping mechanism for people who cannot fault Jones for anything.
So now we have the PTSD angle. Daniel Jones would have been good if the Giants hadn’t broken him.
Jones didn't suddenly become a poor QB this season or last because of the Oline or the injuries. This is just the point at which the evidence can't be argued any further.
If you want to feel for someone, feel for the fan who has had to endure this guy's play for six years.
Since the 2nd neck injury he can’t hit the broad side of a barn. The accuracy has completely gone to shit. That’s regression. He also looks slower IMO.
Yet we will keep rolling out this player while everyone in the league keeps asking "why are they doing this?"
Schoen/Daboll, your response please?
For the players, if the defensive players are losing ground with coaching (also see Isaiah Simmons was mad over no snaps), this is absolutely on Daboll. He also needs to make a QB decision regarding Jones if he struggles with accuracy again this week. Losing the team leads to McAdoo 2.0.
He's broken now by throwing simple 10 yarders at players' feet or in the grass.
Is it the yips? Or is it physical from multiple neck injuries?
Either way, Jones always had some accuracy issues on short passes, strangely (too much time to think about the throw? Can only be accurate when he puts mustard on it?). But his inaccuracy in the short to mid passes is amplified now.
He has made more than $100MM dollars. I think he can retire if he wants. Make fun of him as much of you want. He has had a more successful career than anyone likely to read this board.
hopefully watching that disaster on sunday and reading this article didnt take any more years off joe's life.
No - I don’t agree. He was never great, but his play in this last game, this preseason, and the Raiders game last year represents a sharp decline from his previous play. He went from below average QB to unplayable. Last week was the worst version of DJ I have ever seen.
Can’t handle the pressure of being the number 6th overall pick and becoming an NFL QB for one of the most historic franchises in all of sports. Says the guy typing from his parent’s basement. BTW teachers, cops, nurses, firefighters THOSE are REAL jobs. During Covid who did we ALL rely on??? Stay in your lane.
Let’s go blue!
Confidence was not his problem. He did play with confidence his first year. Unfortunately is was accompanied by poor decision making that lead to interceptions and turnovers. When he cut out the interceptions and turnovers, he also cut out the production.
If Jones regains his confidence he will just be a guy who makes overly aggressive mistakes instead of overly cautious mistakes.
He was never just a good QB.
Perception? I mean Alonso is still top 50% of qualified 1B's for fWAR and he's 5th in wRC+ if you eliminate inexact defensive metrics.
In other words if Jones bad day was simply as bad as Alonso's there wouldn't be a billion threads about Jones.
Watch other football around the league. If you watched KC-BAL or DET-LAR this past weekend you'll know the Giants have been bringing a fucking butter knife to a gunfight for over five years now.
Hopefully the Giants lose this weekend. That will get them on their way to 0-6 and hopefully a complete implosion.
"I just let him know, just go out there and play free and do what you do best.”
Dude is an Eagle now, he knows how bad Jones is... He just cursed him and the Giants...
