Come on people. Outside of possibly the Liberty University forum and the Roswell, GA Facebook group, there may not be a chat room on the planet that has referenced Malik Willis more often than our very own BBI.
And he's with a team that has real aspirations. Can he keep them afloat? Can he break 100 yards passing?
Packers -2.5 vs the Colts. Willis v. Richardson, possibly the ultimate has tools/needs refinement QB matchup of the century.
Given the depths of despair of the Giants and the prominence of Mr. Willis on the site, this could be the 1st time a non-Giants game is the BBI game of the week. Let's go.
I’ll watch the one game I’ve consistently watched and that’s my New York Giants game. Here’s hoping for DJ to have 4 TD 300 yrd game. If not let’s go with Lock and/or Devito. We can only cook with what’s in the fridge. Go Blue.
And we wouldn't have paid Jones.
I thought Neal was a good pick at number 7. I was wrong.
I never liked Thibs predraft. He disappeared against good competition at Oregon as he does now with the Giants.
That 2022 QB class was bad. You could see them struggling during Senior Bowl week of practices.

I get that, but would you trade one of Thibodeaux or Neal to not have paid Jones?
This better be his last year. This QB room is embarrassing.
You are right. It's +2.5. That's what I get for starting idiotic threads on my phone...
Green Bay, on the other hand, is a different story with LaFleur and a guy like Clements (QB coach). It took them a while with Love, but it looks like they got it right after a few years where he looked awful.
Candidly, I'm surprised they are even playing Willis. I don't think he's close to being ready. He's been there a little over a week. I thought Clifford made more sense since he's played. Or even signing Tannehill.
And there are rumors out there that Love might actually be ready to go...
Richardson is a very promising QB, with 5 starts, 10TD, 3 turnovers, 2-3 W-L record and his team scored at least 21 points in every start.
Willis has 3 starts, 0 TD passes, 1 TD run and 6 turnovers. Never passed for 100 yards in a game and never scored more than 17 points. It also doesn't help that the first NFL game I got to go in my life I had to see this dude get sacked in a hail mary attempt to end the game.
Thibodeaux and Neal were unanimous top 5 selections.
Willis a day 3 pick at best and even then, I'd rather take a stab at Howell.

He was appropriately drafted in the third round.

That logic is, well, illogical
The Giants draft Willis at 5, and Thibs at 7. Willis sits behind Jones in 2022, and the Giants franchise Jones after the 2022 season.
As has been displayed in great detail on BBI, the ramifications of franchising Jones essentially mean signing Barkley and not signing Parris Campbell.
The Giants go into the 2023 season, Jones gets hurt and Willis plays badly.
Because the Giants have already signed Barkley, and because they've committed 50M fewer in guarantees, they can afford to keep McKinney and A'shawn Robinson.
On opening day 2024 the roster differences are
1) Third year Willis instead of 6th year Jones
2) Barkley is entering the last guaranteed year of his contract
3) McKinney is a Giant
4) Robinson is a Giant
5) Evan Neal is not a Giant
Are the Giants better off in this scenario?
The error was Schoen didn't pick a clear lane:
1. Trade Jones prior to the 2022 season.
2. Pick up Jones 5th year option.
Either give Jones a longer trial period or cut bait.
Trading Jones and drafting Willis would have been the better outcome.
I disagree. A good comp is the Browns Bills trade for Tyrod Taylor after the 2017 playoff season. The Browns gave up the 65th pick in the draft.
I believe if the Giants franchised Jones, a team like the Panthers would have traded a 3rd or 4th round pick and arranged a cheaper extension for Jones.
they’re not. TT had potential as a starter. Jones had potential as a high school gym coach.

Jones has a better season in 2022 than Taylor did in 2017. Taylor was benched mid season for a game, for the immortal Nate Peterman.
So what? 1 fluke season does not a QB make. Jones' 2022 might have been slightly better than TT's 2017, but TT also had 2 solid years before that, including making the Pro Bowl in 2015. He had real NFL starter potential at one point.
Prior to the 2022 fluke/miracle, Jones hadn't played a solid year of QB in his entire life, at any level of the sport. And don't waste my time telling me that Jones' rookie year was a good year. He was 3-9 as a starter that year. In three years as a starter in THE ACC - shitty competition - before that, he was a combined 17-19 in 36 college games, including a remarkably shitty junior year, and he wasn't even ranked by rivals.com coming out of high school!
I feel like I am taking crazy pills having to make this argument, but please don't give the DJFC fodder or false hope by saying that 2022 was any kind of accomplishment. We won games DESPITE him that year, not because of him.
6 rushes/41 yards.
Not a bad day at all for a guy a week into Packer system.
LaFleur can flat-out coach.
Whopdie fucking doo…
Whopdie fucking doo…
I'm just reporting what happened today.
Whopdie fucking doo…
By that standard he should get 4/$160M.
Whopdie fucking doo…
He’s been with the team less than a week. No,his stats won’t jump out, but he didn’t make mistakes and got a win that GB will need to keep pace in a good division. And yes, bw, LaFleur can flat out coach.
Can he actually recreate it against a real defense?
🤷♂️

Anything that you need to do to support your insane “He should be a top 5 pick” comment, go for it
Jones was top 13 in QBR for all of 2022. But as your MO, you’ll completely dismiss the QBR ranking system for that year. Right?!
🙄

an 82.5 QBR, btw.

Actually, I mentioned it quite often in 2022 and what Jones received QBR wise.
I mentioned he received a 72+ yesterday versus the Browns in another thread.
Willis, btw, received a 92+ yesterday.
What we are seeing is tremendous coaching by Lafleur and his staff. There a lot of ways to win a football game and they are willing to test different ways to try.
I actually believe Daboll may have this ability, too.

Haha...great post.
