It’s admirable of course, to want to do right by your players as an owner of an NFL franchise first and foremost. I’m not saying you shouldn’t, you absolutely should, but doing right by a player should not take priority over what is best for the organization and more importantly its fans.
Barkley and Jones are the perfect examples. Barkley should’ve been traded but he was our "most popular player by far" and we should’ve cut bait with Jones years ago but “We've done everything possible to screw this kid up'.
I assume this is a leaned behavior passed down from the Wellington years, which by all accounts is positive and born out of good intentions. However, how many successful NFL organizations actually operate this way? Not many, if it all, as far as I can tell. It’s we as fans who ultimately pay the price.
Mara needs to prioritize winning and assume the rest will follow--players on winning teams become popular, and the paying customers will be fine.
His out-loud statements, personnel maneuvers, and future planning are all designed to keep you watching. And guess what? It works.
If the fans want him to make different decisions, then they need to stop paying for the product. Money talks.
Mara has hired the wrong people. That's his weakness. And an even bigger part of that weakness is WHY he doesn't hire certain people.
HE isn't pulling strings or playing favorites. He's hiring the wrong leaders.
Maybe Schoen (and Daboll) aren't right for the job? Maybe Mara simply hired the wrong guys.
I want a "retread" next time around. Retread is just code word for experienced.
Not if you're loyal to bad players.
No one is forcing you to read and respond to criticisms of the team when the team sucks.
When any entertainer (and sports IS entertainment) starts worrying about what the fans want over their own personal values and vision, they are no longer worth our attention. We should be considered but not catered to and certainly not prioritized over any single part of the product. especially when the product is made up of other humans. I get that we live in a world where we as consumers have this unjustified sense of entitlement and that kicking and stomping your feet will get you a free cheeseburger at your local Wendy's but this is a billion dollar organization and for every 1 person who thinks holding on to Barkley and not trading him was a problem there is at least one other that believes we should have done whatever we needed to do in order to keep him. For every one person that just knew DJ was garbage as soon as they heard he came from Duke there is someone who felt the same as Mara in that the kid never had a real evaluation (until this past Sunday...) It would be incredibly stupid to cater to one group at the expense of losing another that may be equal in size. Better to live and die based on your own convictions.
Adding to this, even his public comments make contract negotiations harder than they need to be. Do you find it a coincidence that after 2022 both Jones's and Barkley's agents decided to play hard ball and try to squeeze every penny? I have to believe the agents were savvy enough to say "John will step in and force Joe to sign the contract, I guarantee it."

And yet you keep tuning in.
Beckham, Barkley et al were Mara favorites but were let go. He gave the go-ahead to McAdoo to bench Eli
Personnel decisions are left up to the GM and coach.
What he is culpable for is hiring guys like Gettleman, McAdoo, Judge, etc

Touche!

He’s an incompetent boob who has personal favorites and has utterly ruined this franchise with decision after decision for a decade plus.
And yet you keep tuning in.
The entire problem rests in the hands of the fans.
Don't spend any $ on the Giants. Don't buy tickets, merch or even a medium Pepsi. Make the stadium an empty shell on game days. Send the ultimate message to Mara for him to sell his family's part of the ownership.
Or, likely continue to see the same product, with new packaging, rolled out each year.

Sure, I watch @ times. But I'm not going to lie...I go to bars for the games & usually I'm watching another game by halftime because the Giants are that bad.
& I haven't spent $ on Giants merch in years.
I think Mara is an absolute joke of an owner. I don't think he knows what the hell he's doing.

This right here. Saquon made 3 times more than the 2nd RB in endorsement deals even though the Giants were garbage. That is good for the brand. Jones was a very safe bet for a franchise QB with his non-confrontational personality, he handled being bad in the NY market with ease. He rolled the dice because he wasn't going to lose. As long as the brand is strong, fans will show up and be proud of the team even if it is just because of the history. Chiefs are approaching dynasty levels and are 23rd in value, Giants are 4th, that's the stat Mara cares about.
If one of them got arrested Mara would be happy to drop them like a bad habit.
