came into tough spot got it to 2 outs and 2 strikes. clearly gone are the days of him being the primary setup guy but it was the 7th inning. he's clearly behind at least maton/butto.
first missed game in over a year, hopefully he's right and he wakes up feeling better tomorrow but that sort of tells us how he feels today.

acuna had a real strong debut. lefty pitching tomorrow which is iglesias' much better split. obviously if lindor feels good you get him in however you can (DH or SS) but thankfully Acuna gives them a decent looking alternative.

Mendoza didn't sound all that confident about Lindor's availability Sunday after missing Sat. with back injury. Said Lindor had to go through "a series of exercises just to get ready" to try to play, which could indicate significant issue and also why mgr didn't use him as PH.
felt it tighten up after his single. really hope him getting shut down isnt how this season ends. with how he's played this year he very well may have been the difference in these last 2 games.
1. Our starting pitching can be counted on to step up when called upon
2. Phillies are beatable.
I get certain someone's are coming on here with their "that's so Mets" negativity but fuck that man. We weren't supposed to be here and the vibes are high. The lineup is stacked and it's just a matter of time before a couple of the bats heat up.
Lindor is a concern but he's a gamer and he'll do what's best.
Just 2 weeks ago we were 4 games behind the braves, so being a 1/2 game behind is nothing, in fact we could blow right past the Braves and the Dbacks in 2 weeks. Braves have 2 more against the Dodgers and then finish the season against the Royals. Alot can happen.
ring of Stearns and the Mets. Always thought that was such a pretentious take from some here. Along with “you should just be happy that they are here”. Because “they weren’t supposed to be here.”
pj said it best, so no need to get into it further. But we should just thank our lucky stars because the Mets were four games behind the Braves at some point in the past? Lol, thanks.
Low bar here.

i thought they should compete for the playoffs from day 1 and im happy they are currently in the playoffs and fun to watch because they are a good team that has been fun to watch all summer. no need to overcomplicate - we know firsthand no matter how much money gets spent that's never a guarantee. as long as lindor comes back i think they can beat anyone in a series too, especially if senga is also back.
it's total strawman to say that anybody is kissing any rings by pointing out what should be blindly obvious - that stearns did a good job building a team with a bunch of under the radar moves. nobody (myself included) thought this pitching staff was good enough even before senga got hurt. and certainly not if you told me diaz would have this bad of a year too.
coop - most of the stearns discussion over the year came in defense of him when you were criticizing him. where they are very simple question, do you believe he's done a good job or a bad job?
RE: accusing anyone of a low bar or low expectations is horseshit

To start - I'll answer your question and say that, yes, overall I think that Stearns has done a good job in his first season with the Mets. They are already better than they were in the previous season and he's made some good moves that have paid off. Regardless of what you may think, I'm still on the Stearns bandwagon. But it doesn't mean that I love all his moves and that he's above criticism.
He takes a hit on how he handled the JD Martinez injury/Vientos situation - but that ultimately worked out. Most, if not all, of my issues are around his building of this Mets bullpen. Personally, I think his approach is simply to throw as much crap on the mound as he can and hope that he hits a homerun. And he's put A LOT of crap on the mound that has cost a lot of games. Maybe that's just how it is as a MLB GM - but I'm unimpressed. And ultimately it may cost us a chance at the postseason.
Aside from that - I've watched nearly every single game this season and have greatly enjoyed the season. Maybe I'm just a different type of fan - I don't intend or even want to argue with anyone. I post what I post and some people take issue with it - but my intent is to never call anyone out directly. But I'll call out the Mets leadership when I feel it's warranted. Stearns may not be Theo (yet) - but I hope that he has the same effect. I've also specifically said (in past posts) that I think he's done a good job but I need to see more.
But I certainly don't need to be told to "just enjoy" the game because another fan is happy with where they are. I do "enjoy" the team as I have since 1985 (when I really started to get into baseball as a kid). The arrow is pointing up - and I'm excited to see where this team goes. Believe it or not - I do think that the team is in good hands.

1. Cooper, Look around the rest of the league. bullpen is a crapshoot with almost all teams, look how many relievers are recycled from team to team and have "on and off seasons". An quite honestly, Matton for virtually nothing should be regarded as one of the biggest hijacking trades this season.
2. The point of my post was to offer a positive response after a tough loss cause I support my team and the fans on this board.
Would be great if NYM can hammer down on WSH here without him. ATL has to face Yamamoto tonight, so a chance for the Mets to maybe have a good night tonight.
Have never really minded people venting a bit during games, but I do think there's too much negativity on these threads at times and it certainly results in me participating a bit less. NYM threads shouldn't look like NYG game threads IMO.

Even if you take out the $87M retained for Verlander/Scherzer, etc. they have the 3rd highest payroll.
they absolutely should be at least fighting for a wild card. Not sure what some of you need to hold these players accountable.

are you directing that to me? Well I disagree. My point is try to enjoy this.
it is expected and would be a disappointment if they were not contending and a disappointment if they do not get a WC spot.
their win total before the season was 81.5.
This year may be different (seems like it will be) but last year 84 wins got in for the NL.

2. The point of my post was to offer a positive response after a tough loss cause I support my team and the fans on this board.
I had a dream last night where Lindor went on the IL.
Have never really minded people venting a bit during games, but I do think there's too much negativity on these threads at times and it certainly results in me participating a bit less. NYM threads shouldn't look like NYG game threads IMO.

i thought they should compete for the playoffs from day 1 and im happy they are currently in the playoffs and fun to watch because they are a good team that has been fun to watch all summer. no need to overcomplicate - we know firsthand no matter how much money gets spent that's never a guarantee. as long as lindor comes back i think they can beat anyone in a series too, especially if senga is also back.
it's total strawman to say that anybody is kissing any rings by pointing out what should be blindly obvious - that stearns did a good job building a team with a bunch of under the radar moves. nobody (myself included) thought this pitching staff was good enough even before senga got hurt. and certainly not if you told me diaz would have this bad of a year too.
coop - most of the stearns discussion over the year came in defense of him when you were criticizing him. where they are very simple question, do you believe he's done a good job or a bad job?
