Relatively safe that is. Remember Judge was well on his way back to another season before he talked himself out of a job.
Unless Daboll loses the locker room, I think they'll be back primarily because Mara wants some semblance of stability. 4 GMs and 5 head coaches over 10 years probably bothers him more than keeping the band together.
No one would be safe.
but enduring another dumpster fire season, with the team seemingly over-matched, unprepared, and draft picks not panning out?
Not so sure either survives that scenario.
IMV, Schoen should feel like he's sitting in a fireplace right now. He's the biggest problem right now.
Schoen is safe either way though.
….what makes you think Mike Vrabel and John Harbaugh would want to work with Joe Schoen? Both could go elsewhere and pick the GM they work with. Maybe not Vrabel, but definitely Harbaugh.
The Mara threshold seems to be based on the team heading in the right direction at the end of the season. That can be felt by what the fan base is thinking.
Gettleman got a fourth year because things ended strong in 2020. NYG finished 5-3 down the stretch, went 4-2 in the division and the fan base thought Judge was going to be the savior. That ultimately bought Gettleman another year based on the offseason heading into 2020.
If this is a 4-13 season with the fan base out for blood, there is no way either are back. They could even be gone midseason imo.
If I had to bet though, Dabes is outta here.

I don't really think there is any precedence for the above outside losing the locker room. That's been the trend with McAdoo, Shurmur, Judge - losing the locker room or self destruction.
I would think the minute Daboll feels the locker room going, they pivot to Lock.
It just feels like Mara craves stability, unless his hand is forced.
Yep
They have to win games. If Daboll had a kicker today, they win. That's a mark against him.
It's going to come down to wins. If you're Schoen & Daboll, they need a win desperately next week. 2-2 after beating Cleveland and then Dallas at home this discussion will quiet down immensely. 0-4 and Daboll will be answering it every week. Win games.

Safe for for the entire year save losing the locker room. This loss today or a potential 0-4 start doesn't move the needle, IMO as far as their job security. This is not what I think should happen but trying to put myself in Mara's shoes. I think he wants stability over more change unless Daboll shows up to a press conference naked or something like that.
The more I think about it, the more pissed off I am.

now, week 2? Sure they're both safe.

I don't know about that.
I think it will depend on the circumstances.
Opening day (for the second year in a row) the Giants were not prepared. they were out-coached and outplayed. I don't think anyone is safe if that continues. Nor should they be.
Poor roster management week 2. And now it looks like the DC may be in over his head. We’re going to let Daboll fire his DC in 2 consecutive years?
Agreed.
I'm on an island in that I think Daboll has largely been dealt poor hands from the dealer named Joe Schoen. And when he did have a winning season, he won with a team largely built by Gettleman.
My point is Schoen is the bigger problem here.

I'll hold the door open for them so it doesn't him them in the ass on the way out
Agreed.

They’re both the problem. Daboll does not get spared on personnel. He’s made the Jones bed and it’s been soiled and he’s involved in the roster. That’s the deal with this Buffalo tandem.
I’m fine punting both of them out. I don’t see where they get a magical QB and make it all better next year. That’s be one hell of gamble by Mara hoping for a Year magical carpet ride.
To his credit the line has actually looked good thus far after somehow getting worse post Gettleman.
If this season is once again over before we all put the pumpkins out he should be fired along with Daboll

I'm fine with that point of view.
However, I maintain Schoen has driven the Jones decision in terms of the economics. Daboll likely said he was good running it back. And then Schoen decided to reward Team Jones with the $160M deal vs the TT or FT.
I highly doubt Daboll is a guy who gets deep into the weeds on contracts. He doesn't strike me as that type of person.

Pumpkins you say? Not Unless Haloween comes 30 days early this year
Which is too bad, because missing Barkley is not the difference in anything. But "he's our most popular player".
The 2022 draft and poor coaching is somewhat killing them right now.
The fact that they lost that game yesterday is pathetic.
I hope Schoen hangs on. But I think the prospect of Belichick being out there and possibly wanting to come home might be too much for Mara to resist, and if Daboll's job status is borderline, that could be the deciding factor.
This organization is floundering in the dark. Throwing away years.
