Am I the only one who thinks Schoen and Daboll are safe?

BH28 : 9/15/2024 7:11 pm
Relatively safe that is. Remember Judge was well on his way back to another season before he talked himself out of a job.

Unless Daboll loses the locker room, I think they'll be back primarily because Mara wants some semblance of stability. 4 GMs and 5 head coaches over 10 years probably bothers him more than keeping the band together.

Daboll it depends on if he loses the locker room or not. Luckily for us Vrabel is sitting at home. If Harbaugh gets fired in Baltimore then that just makes another exciting option to replace Daboll if they so choose.

Schoen shouldn't be safe.

but enduring another dumpster fire season, with the team seemingly over-matched, unprepared, and draft picks not panning out?

Not so sure either survives that scenario.
Daboll actually called a good game today...

I don't know enough about the Gano details to pin it all on Daboll.

IMV, Schoen should feel like he's sitting in a fireplace right now. He's the biggest problem right now.

They have stable possession

….what makes you think Mike Vrabel and John Harbaugh would want to work with Joe Schoen? Both could go elsewhere and pick the GM they work with. Maybe not Vrabel, but definitely Harbaugh.

If they go 7-10 and are competitive, they are probably back. But, I don't see 7-10.

The Mara threshold seems to be based on the team heading in the right direction at the end of the season. That can be felt by what the fan base is thinking.

Gettleman got a fourth year because things ended strong in 2020. NYG finished 5-3 down the stretch, went 4-2 in the division and the fan base thought Judge was going to be the savior. That ultimately bought Gettleman another year based on the offseason heading into 2020.

If this is a 4-13 season with the fan base out for blood, there is no way either are back. They could even be gone midseason imo.
Lets see how things play out

stinks defensively. Daboll called a “safe” game against a terrible defense. I’m not giving him or Jones anything until they beat consecutive good defenses.

I don't really think there is any precedence for the above outside losing the locker room. That's been the trend with McAdoo, Shurmur, Judge - losing the locker room or self destruction.

I would think the minute Daboll feels the locker room going, they pivot to Lock.

It just feels like Mara craves stability, unless his hand is forced.

They have to win games. If Daboll had a kicker today, they win. That's a mark against him.

It's going to come down to wins. If you're Schoen & Daboll, they need a win desperately next week. 2-2 after beating Cleveland and then Dallas at home this discussion will quiet down immensely. 0-4 and Daboll will be answering it every week. Win games.

Safe for for the entire year save losing the locker room. This loss today or a potential 0-4 start doesn't move the needle, IMO as far as their job security. This is not what I think should happen but trying to put myself in Mara's shoes. I think he wants stability over more change unless Daboll shows up to a press conference naked or something like that.
I would normally say

yes they are safe, but the kicker snafu two years in a row means there were no lessons learned. That is not just a eff up. That is borderline negligence - well maybe total negligence.

I don't know about that.

I think it will depend on the circumstances.

Opening day (for the second year in a row) the Giants were not prepared. they were out-coached and outplayed. I don't think anyone is safe if that continues. Nor should they be.

Poor roster management week 2. And now it looks like the DC may be in over his head. We’re going to let Daboll fire his DC in 2 consecutive years?

Agreed.

I'm on an island in that I think Daboll has largely been dealt poor hands from the dealer named Joe Schoen. And when he did have a winning season, he won with a team largely built by Gettleman.

My point is Schoen is the bigger problem here.

They’re both the problem. Daboll does not get spared on personnel. He’s made the Jones bed and it’s been soiled and he’s involved in the roster. That’s the deal with this Buffalo tandem.

I’m fine punting both of them out. I don’t see where they get a magical QB and make it all better next year. That’s be one hell of gamble by Mara hoping for a Year magical carpet ride.

I don't get Schoen being safer than Daboll. It's looking like he whiffed on two top 7 picks(that whole draft is looking shaky) , overpaid Burns, wasted a 3rd rounder for Waller, and of course the Jones contract.

To his credit the line has actually looked good thus far after somehow getting worse post Gettleman.

If this season is once again over before we all put the pumpkins out he should be fired along with Daboll
Probably depends on what Barkley does for Schoen.
St. Jimmy : 9/15/2024 9:51 pm : link
I could see Mara being pissed if he puts up a big year. Daboll is a coach and probably Schoen's recommendation so he needs to win games.

I'm fine with that point of view.

However, I maintain Schoen has driven the Jones decision in terms of the economics. Daboll likely said he was good running it back. And then Schoen decided to reward Team Jones with the $160M deal vs the TT or FT.

I highly doubt Daboll is a guy who gets deep into the weeds on contracts. He doesn't strike me as that type of person.
Not so sure anymore!
Simms11 : 9/15/2024 10:24 pm : link
Let it play out, but if decisions were to be made today, then it’s obvious. I think it will be worth at least exploring if BB would be interested and what kind of control he would warrant?

Which is too bad, because missing Barkley is not the difference in anything. But "he's our most popular player".

What could “save” Schoen is that Nabers and Phillips look like instant stars. Nubin looks good too and the OL is way better.

The 2022 draft and poor coaching is somewhat killing them right now.

The fact that they lost that game yesterday is pathetic.
Losing games like the way they lost today
BlackLight : 9/16/2024 3:30 am : link
could doom him.

I hope Schoen hangs on. But I think the prospect of Belichick being out there and possibly wanting to come home might be too much for Mara to resist, and if Daboll's job status is borderline, that could be the deciding factor.
Mara loves a scapegoat
Go Terps : 9/16/2024 3:37 am : link
Right now the odds on favorite for that would have to be Daboll, but I think the odds are still on the Schoen/Daboll/Jones trifecta of losing being back next year. All should be shitcanned ASAP of course, which is why I expect them to be back.

This organization is floundering in the dark. Throwing away years.
