The problem for Daboll and Schoen

nygiants16 : 9/15/2024 7:40 pm
is not the talent on this team, there is talent and yes Daboll makes mistakes bit i dont think he is some horrible coach..

The problem is Jones and i dont just mean he sucks, i mean to the fans he is not the future and he shouldnt be but there is no one foe the fans to look at and see promise..

If the Giants were having a bad start with a rookie, no one would be calling for Schoen and Dabolls head because they would see a young team hooefully growing together..

Right now all they see is a big hole at QB and a guy who they just dont want to see anymore
Exactly right

And it's been 3 years with the same QB room. I get the success of 2022 hurt their chances to get someone else, but coming into this year with Jones-Lock-DeVito is not good enough.

Look at the Vikings. They draft McCarthy AND sign Darnold. Darnold has resurrecting his career and they are 2-0.

Why couldn't NYG sign Darnold?

Game today and I have to tell you they giants could have and should have won….Daboll made some horrible calls…not calling up a kicker decided this game before from the start ….anyone knew what the commies wanted to to do and we just let them do it….this game is on the coaching 100% and if he is fired he can look to this as a reason
Wrong

I like Daboll a lot, but it's getting late early for him.

I give him credit for orchestrating an offense with a minor league player at QB, but today was a rough coaching job overall.
Jones sucks
BleedBlue : 9/15/2024 7:47 pm : link
But he played well today and was far from the reason they lost…

This one is on Daboll for me. You knew Gano was banged up - dress another kicker. We left so many points out there
No denying Daboll has not been good

Didn’t force one punt and the only non scoring drive was a kneel down. Then we have the kicker issue, but sure, let's blame the QB

Not saying Jones is the reason they lost, this isnt a rip Jones thread
This is a bottom 5 roster easily
The_Boss : 9/15/2024 7:50 pm : link
The talent here is scarce. That’s on Schoen. Other than the OL coach, Daboll’s staff sucks. The difference in rosters from the playoff teams to the NYG is striking. 3 years into this regime and somehow the team is getting worse. That is unbelievable in today’s NFL. I wanted Schoen and Daboll to thrive here. I really did. But not anymore. These guys need to be jettisoned. And I think after we finish somewhere in the neighborhood of 3-14, they’ll be shown the door.

Go Terps : 9/15/2024 7:56 pm : link
Instead of finding people to blame in more interested in asking if there's anyone available that's better than what we've got.

We know goddamn well there is.

I said this in another thread. The Giants under Daboll haven’t developed many guys. There’s barely any players who have made leaps and bounds in terms of performance on a game to game, year to year basis.

Maybe Schoen really is drafting shitty players. Maybe. But Daboll can’t seem to coach anyone up and in fact, makes some really questionable decisions (Eric Gray returning punts last year for example).

Which is why their plan for the position was so mind-boggling

If they Nix, Penix or McCarthy we would all be anxiously awaiting a new era (or it might have already started).

If we had gone with Fields, Minshew or Darnold we might be 2-0 and excited for a competitive season.

Jones is done! Daboll’s body language when he threw that tablet in frustration told me that he knew than Jones was done and yet he and Schoen have us in this mess.

It has to be their arrogance that lead to this. That or complete stupidity.
that was the ultimate bend don't break defense
jeffusedtobeonwebtv : 9/15/2024 8:40 pm : link
Not counting the kneel down, Washington had the ball 7 times. They reached the red zone 7 times and never scored a touchdown. They did help out the Giants' defense with several false starts and of course the last time they were not trying to score a td, rather to kick a field goal with not time left.

Still it would have been nice if the Giants could have stopped them 3 and out at least once.

In these two games Nabers has played well. He's been involved and he's been dynamic.

And the Giants have scored 24 points in two games.

Good wide receivers don't make up for bad quarterbacks.

The Nabers selection was idiotic.

It’s one thing to blame the QB when the team is an absolute train wreck, today was not one of those days. The team was more or less ready to play today. They didn’t play perfectly, but they played well enough to win. Finally, at some point the QB needs to be the catalyst in helping a team win games.

Jones is way too comfortable losing. Wrong choice of words? Fine. Jones is way too used to losing.

18 points is unacceptable. I don’t give a fuck how he looked.

He literally put them in position to win. We couldn't kick and he had 2 costly drops from Slayton and Nabers. The coaches fucked the team today, not the QB.

But to feel the need to criticize him after today’s game just shows how bad this situation has become. Kid played one of his better games today and was mostly composed. He is not the future but he should not be the punch line in every critique of this mess of an organization.

Jones DID NOT play well today
arniefez : 9/15/2024 9:32 pm : link
for a better than average NFL QB. He threw for 180 yards and 65% of it was run after catch against one of the worst defenses in the NFL. He played the same way he always does. He completed 0 passes that went 20 yards in the air. He telegraphed who he was throwing to every time he dropped back. He never got off his 1st read even though there was clean pocket almost all day. He completed 16 passes. 10 of them to his #1 receiver.

There isn't an easier week for a NFL DC than Giants week.

Jones played well today. The D was the big issue today and of course not having a kicker. Goods points above about the two key drops and fumble. Easily should have been a 30 point offensive game.

The QB
Giantsbigblue : 9/15/2024 9:40 pm : link
Was literally given 7 drives. They were in scoring territory in 5 of those. We had a turnover end one, no field goal kicker, a bad drop om 4th down, a defense who couldnt get the offense the ball, and another tough but catchable 2 point conversion dropped. You guys have officially jumped the shark on this one.

I don't care about stats...our defense couldn't get off the field, our WRs dropped key balls, and our RB fumbled what should have been a first down on good drive.
Last week Jones was the reason we lost..this week he was one of the few people who played well.

People blaming Jones for the loss
Rudy5757 : 9/15/2024 10:09 pm : link
Have no clue. He played well enough to win. He didn’t fumble when we’re driving, he didn’t miss the XPs, he didn’t drop the XP or the 4th down pass on the money to our rookie WR.

Today is not the day to blame Jones.

Coaching was poor yet again. The bend don’t break D had our D on the field for over 37 minutes. We had the ball for 22 only minutes. We lost the turnover battle and the D gave up 7 scoring drives and no punts. Our offense has very little creativity. Near the end zone and we send out 2 receivers. Just 2??? Why? Our kicker come in with an injured leg, how about we let the healthy guy kick? We had a roster spot. Looking back at game 1, why didn’t they play Dru Phillips more game 1??? He has been our best player for 2 games.

No, he wasn't. 6.3 Y/A and 18 points on the board isn't good. It's actually pretty bad.

Today was peak Jones. The Giants blocked very well, ran the ball well, and played a pretty bad defense. The Giants definitely should have won.

But make no mistake, that wasn't a performance that's going to win against a playoff caliber team.

Jones is the Olympic gymnast from a minor country who performs a routine, that by design even if executed flawlessly, won't qualify them for the podium.

I am one of Jones's fiercest critics, but this is wrong. NYG only had the ball for 22 minutes on offense. They were 3 for 3 in the redzone with 3 TDs and may have been 4 for 4 if Singeltary doesn't fumble. And he posted a 63+ QBR, which is very solid, with no turnovers.

Again, I can't stand watching him play football. I still can't believe he's on the team, but he did his job effectively today.

The problem was the mismanagement of the kicker situation, and the D couldn't stop a rookie QB in his second career star.
Jones was not the problem today
Mike from Ohio : 9/15/2024 11:17 pm : link
He isn’t the problem every week. He has occasional good games. They are just too few and too far between.

If the other team posses the ball for 37 minutes, never punts and wins the turnover battle, they will usually win. We were in this game only because their red zone offense couldn’t get out of its own way. We only lost because our coach forgot our kicker was badly injured.

Shall we check the time of possession and number of plays ran by both teams? The defense could not get off the field. The Skins had a full quarter more of time of possession. Literally a FULL QUARTER.

Nabers catches the fourth down and Motor doesn't fumble and there is a good chance more points are on the board. Team was driving both times.

Jones isn’t going to be the reason they lost every week. The entire organization is a shitshow. But fans holding on to hope every week Jones isn’t the reason they lost is exactly the problem. I think the big problem is that we are probably gonna suck next year too. We need to draft a QB, but rookie QBs usually suck - even highly touted ones like this year's class.

So Mara either needs to fire them now or really commit to giving them 3 more years. Otherwise we're living in this year to year hot seat world and won't build towards anything
