Why does a storied franchise like the Giants

RELICDOA : 9/15/2024 11:26 pm
Continue to hire unproven coaches? After he who shall not be named got the boot in 1992, Dan Reeves came in and brought stability back. After Coach Fassel, the Giants brought in Coughlin. We need a proven winner to jumpstart this franchise…even just to calm the fan base. I have zero faith in another rookie administration.
You may be right about unproven coaches

But Dan Reeves sucked.

is too old

McCarthy isn’t too good, same for Peyton.

Vrable is the guy to try and get. The question is will he wanna come here?

Dan had us an Overtime away from Homefield advantage, NFC East title and the best record in the NFL.

Did we get any of those.
there arent any/many proven coaches out there for the taking usually

mike mccarthy, doug pederson, and brian flores are the only ones who have been out there in the last several years - and they wanted flores. schoen chose daboll.
There are young unproven coaches having success
Rudy5757 : 9/16/2024 12:01 am : link
The question I have with Daboll is why did he move around so much?

I don’t think he is a good head coach and it makes it worse now that he’s calling the O. He’s taken on too much. He needs to learn to be the head coach 1st instead of doing 2 jobs.

He has called 2 terrible games so far. How do you only send 2 receivers out on multiple occasions? We should have had Gillian practicing more kicks on the sideline at the very least. If we kick 1 XP we probably win as it would have forced wash to go for it. But that why he’s a bad coach, he doesn’t see ahead. His use of timeouts is always bizarre. He should fire himself as OC till he leans the head coach job
Who do you see as a proven coach that can step and fix this team?

Would Bill Parcells and Tom Coughlin be interested in an encore?

I am only half kidding.

Head coach was coach of the year in 2022 and coached the worst offensive line the league has seen in the era of advanced stats to 6 wins in 2023. Promising young players and new coordinators/position coaches was always going to
Hold back the 24 from coming hot out of the gate. Theres a chance we hit on 4 guys this draft in Theo/Nubin/Phillips and Nabers
proven HCs like Ray Perkins and Bill Parcells?
Victor in CT : 9/16/2024 7:44 am : link
Was Bill Walsh "Proven"? Joe Gibbs?
Maybe the Maras
SirLoinOfBeef : 9/16/2024 8:37 am : link
don't like being told to butt out by an experienced HC.

Coughlin was strong willed but also a very loyal company man.

We need another Parcells-type who isn't afraid to be a pain in the ass to ownership when they have to.

Will Mara allow it?
the answer to your question
The Jake : 9/16/2024 8:38 am : link
is John Mara.

he has no vision. he is simply trying to copy what he sees other franchises do.

that, and that established coaches know better than to come coach for John Mara. it’s the quickest way to tarnish your legacy at this point.

that’s what the “hire BB!” folks don’t seem to get. BB wants nowhere near this train wreck. he didn’t 30 years ago. he has 6 rings, millions of dollars and a cushy sports talk gig since then. you think he views it as better now? don’t lie to yourselves (like you did when you thought Bill Cowher would come here). established coaches are too smart to hitch their wagon to this mess.

The real and obvious problem is that no proven coach would ever want to come here because the book is out on this organization and how $&@?ed up it is

Anybody worth hiring would make sure The Nephew was up in the C-Suite where he belongs and not involved in football personnel.

Is the Mara family willing to admit that they don't know their ass from their elbow when it comes to running a football team?
The stars haven't aligned
Lambuth_Special : 9/16/2024 9:40 am : link
Much like QB, the Giants haven't had the circumstances where their position had aligned with opportunity to grab a good veteran coach. 2018 was a dire offseason for coaching availablity, with guys like Wilkes and Patricia getting hired in addition to Shurmer. For 2020, Rivera was the only in-demand vet coach available. 2022 did have Flores, and the Giants may ultimately regret not moving in that direction.

This offseason will be different. Belichick and Vrabel, plus the potential of John Harbaugh and maybe Flores again.
one reason might be because the Giants

operate with guard rails that other NFC East teams do simply not operate under. MONEY and probably some morals bullshit. See micah parsons and others. Giants are afraid of certain players and always have been.

As to the money, I don't give a fuck what anyone says, this franchise doesn't spent itself out of trouble like the Eagles and Cowboys and other teams do. I don't mean signing FAs or cutting dead weight at times. Deeper. Think deeper.

For all this talk of Mara forcing Schoen/Daboll to sign Jones to the long term deal, that's unprovable and probably just flat out false. We have years of evidence to support the belief that Mara lets the GM operate with nearly full autonomy. HOWEVER, what so many seem to miss is Mara likely told Schoen and Daboll there's no way in hell you're cutting Jones this last offseason and finding a vet QB in FA that makes a lot of money. It's just a theory, but I don't think an unfounded one. Mara likely told these two you signed Jones, fucking fix him. If you don't fix him cut him next offseason when the cut isn't as financially painful.

We didn't cut Dave Brown until the very end. We didn't cut GAlloaday until it was obvious he couldn't even get on the field anymore. The Giants history is littered with examples of this team refusing to move on from shaky talent. Ask yourself why. Is it patience? Or is it something else.

The Giants are weird. 45 years of following their every move. Not saying cheap as much as weird and brutally stubborn.

It's a business. Remember that.
..
djm : 9/16/2024 10:32 am : link
does anyone honestly think that the Giants sign a super high priced vet QB like Rodgers TWO seasons into Wilson's career? Granted Wilson wasn't on his vet salary so he was relatively cheap, but there's no wya in hell they do that kind of move. Was it a desperate move by the Jets? Yep. And now have a shot at the playoffs. Sometimes you need to act with desperation.

Whatever I am done. Mara gets enough shit around here without my help. The lock signing was weird. HE's so bad and such a non threat to anything yet they gave this slob 5 million. You couldn't use that 5 million on Barkley who is an impact player. Nah he's part of the losing culture here! Mara doesn't meddle then..Fucking clown.
let me clarify one more thing
djm : 9/16/2024 10:39 am : link
I don't think that business model is necessarily the problem even if there is truth to my theory on how Mara operates. If anything the conservative financial approach might be the only thing keeping this franchise from plunging even deeper into the abyss of failure. At least their books are relatively clean.

They simply hire the wrong leaders. They'd be just fine if they hired good GMs and more important, good HCs.

Maybe one day Mara and the rest will hire a good HC. Not some asst who got fat on the backs of Josh Allen.

Bad coaching hires is an underrated failure of this whole era. Look at the careers of McAdoo, Judge, and Shurmer post-Giants.

Daboll will still be a sought-after OC but he doesn't appear to be a program builder.

Tische doesn't know or care about football and he doesn't have the ownership percentage to make Mara do anything. Tische is here for the money, and he's doing just fine in that regard, thank you
