John and I will be interviewing Rich Seubert tonight but we also will be discussing the upcoming game.
Browns.... coming off of a very good defensive year. QB and injury issues. Opener was bad. Steadied the ship a bit against the Jaguars, but offense is still an issue. Both OTs a bit banged up.
On the other hand, if our OL is able to hold these guys off and the offense is somehow able to build off of last week, then maybe there's hope this season won't be a complete dud.
I don't see how Schoen & Daboll aren't fired if that's the case in season. You can't be 0-8 after the offseason they've had.
-$40M QB
-Costly trade for Burns and massive contract
-Heavy investment in the OL
-Number 1 WR drafted for $40M QB
If they are 0-8, they better not be in the building against WSH.

Buckle up Sean. It's going to get ugly. Even if I'm wrong, what is their actual record? 1-7? It's not going to be good. I was listening to Francesa's postgame podcast Sunday and he commented that Daboll looks like a completely different coach (not meaning his weight) but that he's lost a spark in these media interactions. Daboll likely already knows how this story is going to end.

Our minds are products of our bodily interaction with the world. Weight gain and loss can change people.
He was also told to look within about his fiery temper. If he seems more languid, that may be why.
I'm still in shock over the QB plan (or lack thereof) this offseason. Everything before that I could have forgiven. How Schoen and Daboll couldn't see this coming, I'll never know.
If they lose to Dallas at home the following week they are 1-3 and the knives are out in full force for everyone. The Browns game is meaningless. Conversely, if the Giants lose to the Browns but beat the Cowboys, there will be a different view of this team, and Jones will keep starting.
The Browns game is a pre-season game that doesn't not matter, because the fate of this team is being decided on Thursday night against the Cowboys at MetLife.
The D is a huge concern imv. I don't see this game 3 awakening I have seen suggested comparing this D to Spags in 2007. Very different team and also first two opponents.
Cleveland last season was outstanding on D at home.
The D isn’t as much fun but I’ll be focusing on Dexy and Phillips with some occasional glances at Burns/KT
Woof
I like the giants to cover.
Because their D can be nasty. They are old on the DL - outside of Garrett - but they will be the biggest test for this OL. And their secondary can cover and hit. Big test for sure.
Wouldn’t be so sure that Dallas game is an automatic loss like it has been in years past. And this has more to do with Dallas than it does the Giants.
They are not very good. Offensively, it’s Lamb and that’s it. Their running game is non existent, Ferguson is banged up, and their OL has taken another step back. Defensively, they were horrible last week at home.

I will be there too but I don't know where I am sitting

Watson’s numbers are by and large worse than Jones so far this season. Nick Chubb hasn’t played yet. The Jags, who haven’t won a game in forever, had across the board better stats than the Browns last week, but screwed up in the red zone.

You mean like the Carolina and Washington games in 2022?
The only way the Giants win this game is if 1) The Browns beat themselves and/or 2) The Giants defense wins the game by winning the turnover differential and getting at least one score. The best that can be said about the offense is that they maintain the time of possession advantage, methodically control the line of scrimmage and make no mistakes. Since none of this is likely, I would expect the Browns to win this game going away.
My question for Rich, why are the Giants not at least trying Evan Neal at guard? He cannot pass pro on an island and is a ferocious run blocker. Is he simply not capable of playing the position? It makes zero sense to have Neal twiddling his thumbs playing behind Van Roten, who is the most poorly graded of the OL and will be gone next year.
Asked as crazy as this sounds I think the defense is so flawed structurally and Bowen is the horrible hire that even if by some miracle the offense shows up I see them as the reason for the loss again. You can’t run a 4-3 w out a single top end DE in the team. They literally traded for a better version of Thibs. Burns isn’t much better vs the run than Thibs even if he’s a better Edge. They also don’t have one other starter level DT in the team.
The league has been shifting a bit back to more running and there won’t be a team who won’t double and triple Dex and just run all day if they have a clue.
The 2022 draft is killing us since we don't have a single probowl/top end star from a draft where we had a ton of early picks like Neal and Thibodeux.
What happened to Bellinger after a solid rookie year?
This game is where Thiodeux and Burns must finally get thru and create turnovers for us.
I'm a fan so Giants win by a FG!

How about beatibg both to get to 2-2? Whole new ballgame then.
My apologies. I am anchored to reality, not wishes and hopes.

Then why do you watch sports? Wishes and hopes are 50% of being a fan. If you want pure reality chemistry might be for you.

I think 0-4 after Dallas is when things start to happen and the avalanche is uncontrollable. If NYG is 0-3 heading into next Thursday, the fans will either be out for blood or in Cowboys gear.

This coming from a poster who has gone very quiet since the start of the season. I wonder why…

What would be strange would be wanting to to hang around a cesspool of negativity with people who love it and root for failure.
Plus I enjoy talking football. Which is impossible with so many assholes who would rather talk about the same old bullshit.
Quod erat demonstrandum.
I think this will be an awful game to watch. Browns have a fantastic defense and will probably win because of that.

i think schwartz has generally done well against us too. amazingly despite that and watson and no chubb im more worried about the defense at this point.

I think the Browns defense kills us. Watson hasn't been good since like 2020, so maybe we have a chance because he will do something stupid. Or maybe we revitalize his career.

They have some awesome players to watch on defense too. They were a very fun team to watch last year.
I root against them because of Watson, though.

You will love his interview. The guy was awesome.
I'm not sure tanking is needed. They can lose just fine without doing it on purpose
If you keep Garrett in check, Giants can win.
Garrett is obviously a huge deal. He also didn't practice but that's not surprising; you have to figure he'll play. Whoever wins the heavyweight battle of he v. AT will make a big impact.
I haven't watched CLE much; O'Hara thought their aggressive D is both a serious challenge and big chunk play opportunity.
Really not sure what to think about Watson, and I think that goes for most people.
You'd expect some growing pains with a new system but last week was more like a heart attack. How the D responds will be the key. Last weeks level of offensive performance with a solid D and no ST disasters would make this an eminently winnable game. We shall see.....
